  • Great ! Who knew it was so easy ...

  • thank you so much!!

  • Omg where have this tutori8al been all my whole life :)

  • ok I have worked out what is needed.. you need to simplify the top layer before you can blend it with the Adjustment leyer- if you are using Photoshop 6.

Great video but it fails to mention that simple fact

  • I went to your website to sign up for the newsletter, but the image verification for the code isn't working

  • @ussprinceton2004 I have no idea why that wasn't working. I think I have it fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out :)

  • omg thank you so much!! :-)

i was going crazy trying to figure this out on my own..lol.

  • Amazing video, really good advice, thanks!

  • Brilliant. Thanks for making Photoshop Elements a little more approachable for a Mac person.

  • wow i love this! thanks!!!!!

  • Everything goes very well until the last part, where I am unable to change the brush to black. I click on black but it remains white.

  • I really like your way of explaining things, natator64! You make it simple to follow and your explanations are easy to understand - also for those with a different language- background than English.

Thank's a lot for your effort. I just grasped the basics of Layer Mask - Thank's to you!

    Best regards from Norway!

  • DD: thank you so much for this! it was extremely helpful, and you made it really simple to understand. I've been trying to find a replacement for layer masks for forever. you're a life saver.

  • Hey thanks so much for this, I have Photoshop Elements 7 and it doesn't have the layer mask feature! But this video helped, it was very easy. Thanks!

  • thanks man your d best,,,

i notice that your accent is like a british accent..^_^

  • OMFG!

I'm a PSD user and just came round to teach my Mum Elements and I was madly looking for layer masks. I'm ...gobsmacked! There are layermasks for adjustment layers but not for layers.. My mum will be confused by this workaround for sure - and she just bought Elements 8!!!!

Nevertheless - Great tip, I wouldn't have figured it out myself!!

  • Thanks, this tutorial was didactically crystal clear. It's quite satisfactory to get a good grasp of concepts so smoothly.

    Will

  • Thanks for an easy to understand tutorial. I am getting nearer to understanding image manipulation.

  • thank you soo much!!!!

i was looking for this 2 days and now i know it!! :D

  • Great tutorial on adjustment layers!! I was wondering how to use it. Now I know!!!

  • I worked, the best tutorial I have found, you kept it nice and simple, perfect

  • Thanks :)

  • Thanks for the video. It was a great resource.

  • hi, simon. thanks for this helpful video. i've also been trying, with no luck, to use the gradient tool on a layer mask, in pse 6. the brush tool works fine for masking, but when i draw the gradient line on the layer grouped with the mask, nothing happens. the mask thumbnail stays all white and no part of the underlying layer is revealed. thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • just to clarify one point: i selected the mask itself before trying to use the gradient tool. my question sounded like i had selected the layer above the mask rather than the mask. sorry!

  • That`s awesome! I didn`t realise you could do half that with elements. Can`t wait to get practising. The way you expalin was great!

I don`t know why but your voice reminds me of Harry Enfield XD Hope all went well with baby!
