  • you are right. real estate is a derivation of royal estate. you can own your home, you can own the rights to property, you can pass the property rights over to someone else, you can profit off the property. the test for ownership is when you dont have to pay for something and it remains yours. i can buy a car and stop paying ad valorm tax and the car remains mine. i can "buy" property and stop paying prop tax and it returns to the true owner.

  • 1 im not trying to be rude 2 i am republican and i like as few taxes as possible but heres my answer - FIRST the point of taxes is so that the government can provide for its citizens SECOND citizens ow that money because they are using the services EX roads, education, free speech SO even in your extreme example the person living on there own can do so because they have the freedom to in the united states and are not forced to work and are also are getting protection by the armed forces

  • High taxes in other countries compared to the US, is a bit different, in that they have LOTS of social programs and a very comprehensive public transportation. So the money doe get put to good use, and people "believe" their government is not wasting their money. In the US, we KNOW the government is wasting our money, and don't see much return for it, so there is great cause to complain and not want to pay a penny more. I have been to 23 different countries, and the US is the best!

  • You pay property taxes because the municipality in which you live uses the money to fund maintenance of roads, police and fire protection, schools etc. Also money on sales tax goes to fund these amenities. So, ,if you want to live in your own house this is a small price to pay for living in a modern society. People who rent also pay for these services because the owner of the property has calculated all his costs (incl property taxes) into your rental contract.

  • In the UK we had property tax for a short period of time but it proved very very unpopular and was later withdrawn. We do however pay council tax.

  • I am not stating my opinion on what I think of taxation. I'm simply pointing out that your logic is flawed:

You are wrong. Taxes don't = debt.

Taxes are levied to keep the government running. Debt is money borrowed to purchase a good or service. Paying taxes on what you own doesn't mean the government owns it. If you paid a mortgage or rent to the government, that would mean it owned the property.

  • @mz9393mz "You are wrong. Taxes don't = debt."

what would you call owing someone money for something every year for the rest of your life with no chance to stop paying?

  • @cutlerylover I understand the point you're trying to make. And to that end, bear in mind that other countries are far worse in their taxation. Go to Germany, the Netherlands or any country in Scandinavia to find out what high taxes are really like. Then visit Brazil, Russia, Romania or Syria and see what a truly corrupt government looks like. I'm not saying the U.S. is perfect. But many do not know how good they have it here. We are truly blessed to live in this country, problems and all.

  • Hey jeff upon this topic I think it is good to ask. I want you to fly the Gadsden Flag in your background.

  • Thanks asshole, I've been proud of myself for buying a nice big house at age 24 a couple years ago, now I just feel like a dick.

  • @uncleben03 well it shouldnt be that you dotn really own the land but rather the fact that right now is the best time in like 60 years to buy...anyone cna get a house these days not many can easily sell theirs for what they have invested in it, certainly a buyers market too bad Im broke..lol

  • what about richard proenneke?

  • based on many of the responses to this video, there are a lot of people that are fans of ron paul, this is his idealogy. the only tax he advocates is a "use" tax. no income, no property. keep the people free and prevent the government from impinging on your constitutional rights

  • Sales tax is weird when you think about it. You work hard and make x dollars, and pay the State y dollars on the income tax. Then you take whats left and buy something, and then you get taxed spending your money. NJ has 7% sales tax. Granted, a lot of people purchase things online and don't pay sales tax. I would love to be able to open a bank account and get 7% interest on it.

  • BTW, i'm sure that politicians have a way around property taxes for themselves in addition to all the other bull crap laws they make for themselves.Mostly, I don't even want to know all the garbage they can and do get away with because it just pushes me towards despising them more.

  • @jblip1 I think most politicians happily pay their taxes. If they don't they wouldn't be in politics very long. I think what the big deal for them is the retirement packages they get. But I don't really know, I am just sort of guessing. What is great though is just like Cutlerylover says, be happy with what we have. When all is said and done, the taxes are always less than what you earn. And we can buy things and do things that people in other countries can only dream about. Lets nt tke tht 4 gr

  • This has always irked me. I feel that when you pay it off it should be yours however that is just not a reality here.Perhaps we could pay a lifetime fee. One time. Say a percentage of your property value and you never pay taxes on it again. Also, lets apply our wacko government logic to other sales. If you buy a food item you pay sales tax. One time, not forever. So why not a one time tax on land? Because they are crooked and they will always be so.

  • @jblip1 Interesting points. You got me thinking, theoretically you can pay your property tax way in advance, and then you wouldn't owe anymore property tax. Pay 10 years worth of property tax at once and then you are debt free. For 10 years, lol.

  • Great Topic! Why is it that a land/property/wealth/income tax is still required despite owning your land/property in full and the fruits of your labor; because the institution of government, as currently established, couldn't exist otherwise.

  • property tax is really more of a taxation of wealth. rather than taxation of ownership.

    i think.

  • It's called the social contract. You are still part of society and still use the infrastructure of society (roads, police, fire, schools, etc.) Property taxes typically stay local. So many confused topics even in the posing of the question. Property tax is not "just another tax". In fact, it is VERY easy to find out how your property tax is used by looking at your town's budget. Property tax isn't "debt" because you are gaining the benefits of living in your community!

  • @mrmonkeyman50 Actually it's called physical coercion and due to the depredation of private property rights would constitute a criminal act of aggression, but that is the nature of the state as described by Rothbard and many others. I happen to agree with them.

  • @goodoleblue LOL... another Paulite. Dude, YOU are the state. See if you can get your town to abolish the property tax. Yes, there are rules when you are part of a society and necessarily depend on others. People love the benefits - so much to the point that they've forgotten that they are benefits of organized society. If you want to go back to hunter-gatherer, be my guest. Most wouldn't. PS Rothbard also hated rock music and bebop.

  • @mrmonkeyman50 Yes, I am a strong supporter of Dr. Paul and no I am not the state, I am an individual and as an individual I do believe I have a responsibility to be outspoken and honest when others ask for opinions. I don't know how many people "love the benefits" as you point out, but I do know that I'm not too thrilled about paying for parents to have their children educated, especially when I have none and have no intention of ever sending mine to a public school,

  • or for a corrupt welfare system that keeps people poor and dependent on the sweat of others, making them criminals whereby they become recipients of stolen property. Those are the two biggest expenditures of most state's/county's property taxes, you know. Getting rid of that would not be "going back to hunter-gatherer", but a step in the right direction, IMHO. Don't much care about Rothbard's taste or lack thereof related to music or any other subjective topics, but thanks for the trivia.

  • @goodoleblue No doubt you wouldn't want to put money into school systems but you'd be more than happy to spend many times more money for prisons. If you really don't want to be part of society then move to the jungles of South America of the vast deserts of the mid-East. You are the state - you make up part of it, your voice is part of the community. C'mon in and join society. Oh, yes, your "facts" are wrong - your property taxes are kept local, dude, they don't go to welfare.

  • @mrmonkeyman50 No, I wouldn't be happy to "spend many times more money for prisons." The criminal justice system is so deeply flawed in these United States mostly due to discrimination and the detention of non-violent offenders, among other things. I believe prisons, and other essential services could & would be privately funded and maintained, but of course too many have bought into the notion that it is out civil duty to allow those elected to lawfully plunder under the social contract BS.

  • Comment removed

  • @goodoleblue LOL! "Prisons should be privately funded..." by WHOM??? Either way you'll have to pay for prisons. The one thing I've noticed most of all: those people who worship at the kool-aid of Ron Paul typically have not done well at school and aren't particularly well off. Yet, their heads are filled with all kinds of "theories". You remind me of the Marxists of the 1960s... full of pronouncements on society that don't fit with human nature. Don't be angry, join us!

  • @mrmonkeyman50 Much in the same way that gated communities have their own police force or private roads. You may be true in saying that, "Either way you'll have to pay for prisons.", however one method involves force and coercion & the other, voluntary action. I would wager that private police forces/security operate much more efficiently than state sponsored institutions.

  • @goodoleblue Typical of Ron Paul fans: no thinking things through. Gated communities? LOL... dude, what happens when you leave the gate? Who pays for the roads then? Like a spoiled child, you call things the fruits of your labor when in fact you've depended on ALL THE REST OF US to provide ALL the infrastructure you take for granted. Like I said you are basically a Marxist from the right. Why not just buy your own island? :o)

  • Comment removed

  • @mrmonkeyman50 Much in the same way that roads existed before the government got so deeply involved. I suggest you do some research. I don't know how claiming that my property/income is mine makes me spoiled, nor do I depend on "ALL THE REST OF US", I pay my taxes, even though I happen to believe taxation is theft. "Why not just buy your own island?" Sounds fun, maybe a good winter getaway and guess what I'd still be forced to pay taxes on it. ;-)

  • You are the one with no facts, Rhodes scholar.

  • @goodoleblue Unless you "Claimed" it in the name of a new country that you found, and are able to defend it from whoever you stole it from :P

  • @Dasdfjkl tax is not just for the education. it also maintains the roads you drive on, public facilities like parks. (for in hong kong, not sure how its like for america) it pays for the ambulance that will take you to the hospital when in an emergency. all these things are a lot easier when everyone pays a little bit for it. instead of paying expensively each time you use it

  • @scorchbubbles I was just talking about property tax, of which 66% is used for the school system. 23% is used for the County, which includes county parks. We also have to pay income tax, interest tax, capital gain tax, dividend tax, sales tax. This is all money for the state. I don't mind paying taxes when I see it going to good use. I do enjoy the local parks. If you need an ambulance ride you pay out of pocket for it.

  • @cutlerylover So far we have (1) Indian reservations, and (2) jail, which was @knifekid666 's idea. Any others?

  • Was just talking about this the other day, and it's a topic that comes up from time to time. If, by way of failure to pay, you lose something in your possession, then you do not own it, period. There are other criteria for not owning something, but that is one of them. If you don't allow the Government to take your money, they will make sure that you are left with nothing. We don't own anything anymore - You know what they say, if everybody owns it, nobody does.

  • The other day, I heard a radio show here in Quebec on the comparison of living costs between Canada and the US, and honestly, you guys are lucky. Here, we have provincial and federal tax, and it comes up to fifty-some percent. If I heard right, it's ten or so in the US, and only federal.

And as for property tax, what you said made a lot of sense to me. I too can only think of Indian reserves when it comes to the "debt-free" thing.

    Keep up the awesome videos!

  • My gripe is with income taxes.

  • Well Jeff, I have to agree with r00sterFMJ - there is a difference between debt and taxes. So, what you are actually saying is that you cannot get to a point where you don't have to pay to own something - property in particular. Its not that you owe someone money on the note on your home - its that your property value is used as a reference to tax you for services. Perhaps you should try not to think about HO insurance while you're at it - heh.

  • Some countries in Europe have very high raxes, but yeah, you are receiving a lot of public services in exchange, like public health, schools and so on.

  • How expensive is it to live in america? Here in britain its pretty expensive. heres a few examples: Pack of cigarettes $10, one US gallon of Petrol (gas) is $7 ish, Income tax - anything you earn over around $15k is charged at 20%, everything over around $60k is charged 40% tax. errrm... car insurance for a teenage driver is $2000 at the cheapest

  • Well the goverment used our property taxes to pay for their errors and with the left overs they pretend to pay cops, fire figthers, schools, parks and so. So the answer is not, even if you pay twice the price for your house. By the way, are you have your taxes done?

  • i figured it out jeff! criminals!! criminals in jail do not pay for anything, free food, free land, free everything!

  • People in the states shouldn't be complain about taxes. In Canada, we do pay property taxes but we also pay a lot of money for health care and education through taxes. This causes or taxes to be significantly higher, however we have the benefit of never being in financial trouble when it comes to most medical incidents. As for owning the land, I think that only natives can be truly tax free.

  • well you own your house garage shed ect on the land and that is yours but you need pay property tax for owning property on the land The goverment has provided you with but in some sircumstances you can by your land off the goverment you can apply for a quote of what they would want for the land if they are willing to sell it they usealy accpet the offer to buy land when the are needing the money for other things after buying your land you no longer need to pay property tax

  • interesting though actually...

  • In Canada we're about the same re paying Property taxes that go mostly to schools even if we have no kids at all. In other ways we pay more Taxes than US citizens. We pay significantly more for Cars made here then they sell for in the US. We have to pay 15% Harmonized Sales Tax on almost everything. You want to fix things in your country? Either raise Taxes or trim the Military Budget. I note none of the GOP candidates address that. Roads, schools, teachers, nurses or Wars...your choice.

  • Hey Jeff, taxes and debt are a little different. Debt is a repayment of loan or borrowing. Taxes are fees imposed upon citizen in local, state, and federal areas for which services are provided (i.e roads, police, and military defense). So homeowners may not be "in debt", but they pay for the services the government or municipalities provide. Taxes are inescapable in any situations were governemnt is involved. Bummer huh. Thanks for the vid Jeff.

  • That has bewildered me to no end. It is a bummer thought. Closest thing I have found to living free, = Build an Earthship.

  • People.. if you read my comment and disagreed with it. You yourself haven't researched. How sovereign states work. You can technically own your own country. Just look up the principality of sealand and you'll unsterstand.

  • sorry for selling and spacing errors

  • I don't know abbout taxes botin Finland Teir parking tickets are baced on their salery, the most exspensiv parking ticket ever made was in Finland and the Guy was a pro Hockey player, it was soexpensiv he didn't eaven say how much it cost. Someof their tickets can get to several thousand dollers!

  • yea places in northern europe and scandinavia have ridiculous taxes, but they have free health care and education

  • property tax sucks i think ranting is cheaper

  • don't hit your sister

  • I used to think about this stuff and then I started drinking. It's one of those philosophical comumdrums that distracts you from amassing fellow douchbags underneath you in the system as you rise.

  • What comes after trillion?

  • Current US debt: 15,110,570,035,000 and growing. Current US population: 312,827,247. That is over $48,000 for every Man, Woman, Child and Baby. You are right. We will always be in debt.

  • As a Member of any Governmental Community you can never ever get Dept free. You dont have to possess anything and you still owe someone Money. That is capitalism which is everywhere, where Money is. Even IF there is a social system, that "protects" you, that does NOT mean, that you dont owe someone something, it just means, that it is not necesserely YOU that gives it to them. It is the money-system itself, that's wrong. And, just because you asked: compared to Europe, USA is way cheaper...

  • All money is fake currency, US is in a very bad place their money is private owned by mighty people.

All countries that have tried to impose gold as currency have been invaded..

    Its pure fact..

  • Maybe you can ask the government if you can pay them in gum! Lol jk, but I agree it is kinda a depressing thought. In America we do have it good compared to other countries in the world but I don't think its too much to always strive to do things a little bit better.

  • Well taxes go to public goods. Things like roads and parks are paid with government money raised through taxes. And the thing about that is, if the government didn't raise money through taxes, no one would pay for parks and roads. It's messed up that we really cant "own" any land, but we use so much that isn't our own property.

  • You're not wrong! Totally depressing :(

  • @cutlerylover That is right. But depending on what side of the fence you happen to be on at the time, like right now I have no kids so I sort of take the side why should I pay just as much as my neighbor who has 3 kids. But if or when I have kids I will change my mind, lol.

  • You should have taken it one step further and explained what happens if you don't pay your property taxes.

  • @gsszuber Where I live, if you don't pay your property taxes they start charging interest. So to avoid having to pay even more taxes I rush over to the municipal building and pay early, lol.

  • Another point is, the state, or banks for that matter, don't want land. Land is not money. They just want money. That is why some people have been able to negotiate lower payments with their banks to pay less mortgage. The bank rather get a little bit lesser money than to get no money an have all these foreclosed pieces of worthless land. Land has a value to us because we would cultivate it to be our home and to cherish it. Not to make money from it.

  • I also think that Barack needs a few more years to straighten out the economy. In order to create jobs, the boss at the top needs to open his wallet and invest in the company, and hire workers to run the new businesses. In other words when the economy is bad, it is not the time to have the government cut spending. It is not the time to cut taxes for the wealthy. It should be the other way around. Cut government spending in a good economy. Right?

  • you can be debt free if your homeless. and taxes are one way to take from the rich and possibly give to the poor or just use it for the good of a nation/community

i think in communist countries they don't really tax people as much, and look at how they turned out

  • property tax is done locally per state and in some states its governed locally and varys by town you could theoretically find someplace in america with no property tax but you will have to pay something else in exchange like high sales tax or income tax or you could theoretically get a town together to change how they collect taxes so that there is no property tax. cretinGbg78 explains it in pretty simple terms below in his comment below why we need to pay taxes. Property taxes go directly to t

  • I dig it Man you are humble thats what most people see in you thats why you are one of the most liked youtubers....rock on man

  • If you don't complain about taxes the government will just keep taking more.

  • jeff do you consider yourself a youtube mogul..

  • @Blk05titan26 nope, I think I have accomplished a lot but on the overall picture of youtube Im not much at all, if youtube is nature, I went from being a fly to small cat in a world of dinasaurs...

  • wow award goes to this video for most long comments!

  • I live in the netherlands. And man tax over hire is insane. But then a gain we are money making slaves to the gorverment and top members of the worlds bigest criminal orginization. cold bilderberg group. And it sucks. things you bay 20%. And not talking a bout the tax on what i urn. Or all the tax on al things you do has tax. only need to tax breathing and every thing has tax

  • @AnobisBloodwing And to be honist. i am realy thinking of getting the hell out of this crapy curupt country. And the people has not mutch right. Like in the US. Thay took ower rights to bare arms in 1918. Thay wer afraid with new wepons cuming out. The army was not strong inuf to bash down the people. If we stood up against the growing tyrany. So thay took it away under the sweet making words. We will keep you safe. you don't need guns..... Yeah right :/

  • @AnobisBloodwing if nobody has a tank or machine gun in your neighborhood you'll probably safe.... and i dont think you need a weapon that blows up the city to protect yourself

  • @AnobisBloodwing I think your government is thinking about taxing the air. They will start monitoring how much hot air you are sucking into your flat. :-)

  • If I had to give you an idealistic explanation about why property taxes might be needed - your property rights need to be guaranteed by some higher authority, otherwise your neighbour could shoot you in your sleep and it'd be his property from then. That guarantee comes from having the government, the courts and justice system, the policemen, etc. So the tax is paid towards paying the people who ensure something is actually your property, and who ensure that "property" can be enforced at all.

  • Hey Jeff there are places here in the eastern parts of Colorado such as agricultural lands in which you do not owe the government any property tax. I had listened to this on the news about 7 or 8 months ago.

  • I would rather pay more taxes for a better country than pay less tax only to have my country run into the ground by a bunch of silver spoon grasping, oil mongering, environment raping, God fearing, war waging retards. Americans complain about taxes because they feel entitled to all the useless crap they own. If people did not fill their homes & spoil their children with a bunch of worthless Chinese crap from Walmart they would have more money.

  • @espressosoup Bingo. Tho we here in Canada have to a lesser degree done it to ourselves too allowing scum like WalMart into this country. Good manufacturing jobs in North America have disappeared forever because greedy Unionists wanted lifestyles their education didn't entitle them to and cheapskate citizens wouldn't pay the price for Made In US goods. Think of General Motors and the UAW. The USA did it to themselves. A great country being destroyed by greed and shortsightedness.

  • Same thing here in Sweden, don't know much about it but yeah... it sucks over here too! :P

  • Hi!

If you own land for which you pay taxes, you will think twice about what will you do with it. Imagine some ritch guy buying all the land in your neighborhood, have it just for the fun of it, and won't sell it to someone like you? the land would be overgrown by bushes and you woud have no place to live becouse he is not loosing anything by having it! taxes make people think about owning land they dont need, and reconsider selling it to someone who coud make good use of it.

    My opinion :)

  • Here in ireland they are bringing in water rates nd property tax and possibally others as far as i know.

  • I try to explain this to my friends who have bought houses that they only "own" the house/property as long as they keep paying "rent" to the government in the form of property taxes. What's worse is these communities who have condo fees. The only thing you really own when you buy a house is the responsibility of maintaining it.

  • your right. the government should be happy the land owner is apart of the country, not punish the land owner by making them pay to be apart of their corrupt club.

  • Taxes is a contract between you and your goverment. Even if you own everything you use, you still want to use the roads, be protected by your police, army etc. land is easy to tax, you can not hide it therefore one of the oldest taxes. It all comes down to what type of society you want to live in. Everyone fends for themselves or cooperate.

  • Property taxes on undeveloped land (at least here in Canada) are so minimal that they're not really a concern. If you can shell out $30k for a piece of land, you can afford $300 a year.

It's not a question of debt - it's a question of calculating the total cost of ownership of something, and living within your means... Something that governments, and most individuals, have forgotten how to do.

    Vote Libertarian.

  • i'm from Belgium and there are property taxes!

and the taxes are 21%, if you buy a knife and it is like 30 euro so the government say you have to pay 21% on the 30 euro so they get some money and still they say that they are bankrupts.

(that price is just a example )

  • Do you think it's wrong to carry a small utility blade in Norway, even if it's illegal?

    i need an answer!

  • @longboarders1 Taxes

  • Ron paul 2012

he got my support all the way from the netherlands !

  • Property is theft.

  • In my country you don't pay land taxes but you do pay building tax i.e., if you have a land and don't build anything in it, you don't pay. As soon as you build something (a house, shed, whatever), you're paying!

  • I am truly debt free at this time in my life although i do not own or rent property i am 25 and do work on family farm so i get to stay here and eat here for free and they pay me under the table for the xtra help i do around here to help sell our horses and dogs that we breed. Atm I owe noone in this world anything except for my family which is a thank you.

  • Well I like the road in front of my house and I assume one day it will need to be replaced; and so on. I don't have a problem paying my FAIR share for public things that everyone uses.

  • in sweden you own the things you buy, but we pay a percent of our salary to the state.

the money they get they use for free dental and helth care, also to school so it is free between people who are 6-20 years, but some money goes to politics, doctors and teachers// Your friend from sweden :)

  • Comment removed

  • The reason for property taxes is that people dont amass just a lot of land and screw everyone else over. Taxes on land makes sure you use it or sell it to someone that will.

  • @doutonight thousands of people hog up lans and dont do anything with it at all, I grew up in a town where a single family owned half the land in the town, and ran everything like a monopoly

  • @cutlerylover Therein lies the problem - a monopoly is still more profitable than the taxes. Of course, when big money enters the game, all the rules change.

  • I live in the Netherlands, so it's the same. I'm not that much surprised about the taxes though, I am surprised about the gas prices.

  • In sweden the worst tax is on the petrol. .

    1gallon is about $7,50 and $5 is taxes. .

  • Property tax (local tax) is for law enforcement, ambulance squads, fire fighters, teachers, schools, etc. Therefore, you are paying to live in a town, not to "rent" the land.

  • @sjonnie166 Is that a Dragonball Z reference?

  • It should be a citizenship tax, so that deadweights that don't own property can pay their part of the taxes, and the hard-working property owners don't have to pay all of it.

  • MY DEBT IS OVER 9000!!!!!

  • @sjonnie166 moet jij kakken ofzo?

  • "death and taxes" dude

  • You're paying for the best military in the world to protect your property and also for police, fire departments, etc. When you look at it that way, it's not such a bad deal.

  • interesting observation. I am both saddened and enlightened. i do not see a legal way around it. i hope i am wrong.

  • that cause everyone wants a hand out! no one wants to work for anything! they just want the government to give it to them. no matter what someone always has there hand in your pocket!

  • I live on the rez and as a white person its no better than anywhere else cause the natives get all deals its literally like being a foreigner because it is its own nation lol so yah just thought I would through that in.

  • We pay taxes on our income. We pay taxes to buy a car to get to work. We pay taxes on the gas we put in the car to go to work. We pay taxes on the phone we use to call from work. We pay sales taxes on whatever we buy with the money we have left. Taxes are everywhere.

  • It's my understanding that churches don't pay property taxes. I see no reason, however, to exempt them. Give to Caesar what is Caesar's...

Taxes ARE too high in the US. Low taxes = high growth. High taxes = low freedom.

  • taxes aren't the only thing ripping us off, banks are also good at it . The system is rigged, the generation that is retiring around the next 5 years are probably the last that will be able to do so debt free. (at least here in Norway) The only way to get ahead of the curb is to lower your living standards and being a greedy hardworking SOB. Then you might get lucky. But if you want to "own" a living space, a car and all those things. You'll have to speak to a bank, and then your screwed.

  • Taxes do suck here in the netherlands...

Tobacco taxes are trough the roof bye the way.

Luckily we dont have to pay shit on taxes for Weed :D

  • in sweden there is 31% on you pay check in taxes sadly.

  • It's in all intrest to be free. So be free and dont pay anyone who thinks you owe things, you're not! But, and this is another controversy in itself...if you are not willing to think other then to think this economy rules it all (banks, inudstrie, government, shadow governments etc.) you are not be able to be debt free! Give up your economic way of being a slave of this matrix. Learn how the system works, to be the diverence for you and everybody else. Don't be afraid your NOT alone in this!!

  • I agree. If the govt can take your house away if you don't pay your property taxes, it truly isn't yours. And why stop there? Why don't they charge you property taxes for your car and all the other things you own as well? Property owners are being penalized and paying more taxes while their neighbors who are using the same public services who don't own their homes are not subject to this unfair, and immoral debt IMO

  • I think you're taking the idea of "debt" too far. Debt to be something that has to be paid back to a person or institution. Obligations on assets. I'm in debt because I did not pay my car in one go and am making payments. I'm in debt from credit cards, school loans, etc. Basically money spent that I did not have or property owned that I did not completely pay for yet. That is debt and once paid off I will not be in debt anymore. I don't see taxes or buying groceries as debt.

  • @Schmidt54 yeah except you pay tax every time you go to work, every time you buy something or eat in a restaurant. So if you buy a new pc from a store, pay tax when you buy it, do you think you should have to pay the government every month for the privilege of owning it? Because that is essentially what jeff is saying here.

  • I would like to see your opinion on NDAA.

  • And if you refuse to pay your property tax? Will the government take you house?

  • It is impossible to live within any country and not profit from the structures around you. That's why we have to pay taxes in one or the other form. The only question is if the amount you pay is justified and if your taxes are used in the right way.

  • But taxes pay for so many things (education, police, streets, you name it), the system is necessary, otherwise there cannot be rule of law and your neighbour kills you and steals your property - because essentially this payment means also security granted by law and enforced by the government.

  • It's all a question on how you define "owning". In Germany, you own a piece of land, you have to pay taxes for it. They find some ancient Roman sandal on your land? They will dig it up, deal with it. Wanna build a house? Need permition. You want to dig for water (don't even think of oil or gas)? Gotta need permission and it costs.

With forced insurances and taxes, an average German loses 20-45% of his income. And our prices here are higher than yours.

  • i have thought this for years, nice to see a vid about it

  • i think most the people in here that say its a necessary are dumb ur property should not be taxed and thats simple they should be based on what u need if u want the police fire and all that to help u u pay a tax same with if u want trash pick up and postal but if u can live without those services u should not have to pay for them simple and plain

  • Ron Paul 2012!!

  • @jagorzynski santorum > paul

  • @Klayperson lol, you make me laugh

  • Dude Jeff pls believe me when i say that american taxes are a freaking Joke!. I live in the Netherlands, im 19 and we pay taxes like CRAAAAAZY MUCH.

  • @new9876 u may pay higher taxes but the point is america was based on equality and a non tyrannical government

  • There is 2 thigs on life that you can not avoid

    Death and taxes

  • If you look at taxes from a moral prospective you will discover all taxes are immoral, because taxes are just the Government pointing a gun at you and saying "you owe us because we have the guns", and morally that is no different than me pointing a gun at you and saying "you owe me because i have a gun". That is one of the main reasons government programs don't work, they don't have too, you have no other alternative but to pay them, so why be efficient? there is no competition for tax dollars

  • lets all just stop paying taxes, they cant fit us all in jail and they wont have any money to pay the police to come arrest us. then maybe they'll start listening to us.

  • Poland -

23%!!!! VAT tax. house tax, rent, 3 income tax rates 18%, 24%, 32%

  • I agree that it is disappointing but i wouldnt say that it means that we dont own the property.. Taxes are just a way for the government to make money.... so basically you just give the government some money for owning land... because lets face it the government needs to earn money too!

  • do a video about FEMA camps

  • I'm no positive about it, but I think New hampshire residents don't pay property tax. Might be a good thing to look up.

  • ah i don't want to get any older, i don't want to deal with mortgages and taxes and all that haha

  • People need to learn to be dependant on themselves. Our government has become far too big and we pay for it. Plain and simple.

  • Hey Jeff, just some numbers from germany...

Income Tax about 36%. then we pay something thats called "solidaritätssteuer" it was meant to built up the east but we still pay that tax which is a aditional 5% of our income. We have to pay another 5% tax if we buy land. Then 3% when we own it. Then we have "mehrwertsteuer" a 19% tax on everything we buy. We even have to pay taxes for our dogs or if we inherit something. So i guess you have to pay less taxes than we have to ;)

  • The government is screwed all up. I think they should charge everyone a flat tax. When I work over 40hr a week my over time is taxed so much that it's almost not worth it.

  • Also on the Indian reserves; although they do get an advantage with casinos and cigarettes; they also have to pay millions of dollars to lobby for certain government officials to get into office to maintain those laws which are in place!

  • Great point. I have thought the same thing for a long time. And… you are not wrong. Property is “sold” every day for back taxes. You can pay your whole life… stop paying for one year and the government will “sell” it right out from underneath you. Sad…

  • Taxes are a fact of life!

  • Yeah and how come the government gets 30% of my income? Because their the government and they do whatever the fuck they want. Vote for Ron Paul!

  • its the same here in the uk you buy property and then you still HAVE to pay council tax :(

  • just to say i feel both plans were ruined from the start. firstly the way brits have it is that we all pay towards our future and health but in a constant amount every month. the flaws are that people dont want to have their money spent on ''druggies, hobo's and in some cases foreign imigrants''. the us system is also ruined were they dont pay tax but if ever in need of treatment it costs them lots but in return they should save money from what they dont spend on taxes (self management)

  • @lkj802 The US free market system would work fine if the government got out of the way. Government programs jack up the costs of healthcare so much if you HAVE to get on an insurance plan just to see a doctor, and the Federal Reserve keeps interest rates low so irresponsible people can live off credit, which makes it impractical to save money because your money looses more value than it gains by going in a bank do to inflation from them printing money to keep the interest rates low!
