  • Thank you for a very informative video, Andrew. The only thing lacking was that we did not see the wire mesh under the sheets. What grade of wire mesh is used? How is it attached to the 2x4's?

  • Good point. The mesh is what I would call hog wire. It has square pattern. Try a tractor supply store. The heavier it is the better because it won't sag as much. I attached it using U shaped nails that you can buy at any home improvement store. (I call them U nails, but I'm sure there is a better name for them.) If you need to, talk with a sales person at the store and they can get what you need. These nails are used specifically for nailing wire mesh to fence posts. Thanks for watching!

  • That's cool. How does the quality/price (considering the hours you put in) stack up to bought clay?

  • It's breaks down to about 8 cents a pound and you get a more plastic clay because all of the clay particles get saturated with water. It only takes a few hours to mix up a batch. It does take several weeks to dry to throwing consistency. My last batch was ready after 4 weeks.

  • nice..................

  • I couldnt really understnad some of the ingredients that you said, could you type them for us?

  • Sure,

    150lbs of Goldart

    25lbs of G200 Feldspar

    25lbs of Silica 200mesh

    37.5lbs of OM4 Ball clay

    37.5lbs of XX Sagger

15lbs of Mullite or Kyanite medium mesh

you can change the mesh size if you want on the Kyanite or mullite. I suggest looking at it and seeing what suits your need. If you make large things go for a larger mesh. Average size pots go for the medium, etc.

Thanks for watching and good luck!

    -Andrew

  • Thank you!! Very informative as I am tired of buying clay! Now I know how to make a whole load of clay on my own!
