Yes of course he knew all the songs, but he was capable and did have the amazing memory to string together whatever the audience requested. My husband and I used to play musice together, and he could also string songs together without "rehersing" them. That is musicianship. And of course, there is always the performance aspect.

@dad72727272 This medley was not truly improvised "on the spot" as Lee claims. He had played this same medley before. There are other clips on YouTube of him playing the same medley on the "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." The whole "audience request" thing was just a bit of theater and showmanship. In fact, Lee used the exact same jokes and one-liners during his show for decades. Great showmen find out what works with an audience and then stick with it.
A truly great collection of music here. When he performed in Omaha at Ak Sar Ben Coliseum many years ago for a 7 nite run, he broke all attendance records at any previous Ak Sar Ben show.
Liberace was the reason i took up the piano before at the age of five before i knew any classical pianists so i have alot to thank Liberace for as he got me interested in the piano. So all the critics who blasted him for his interpretations should be ashamed of themselves because i bet there was alot of pianists that took up the piano as a result of Liberace.
Piano music doesn't get better than this! What a showman he was...extraordinary talent! I wish he was still with us. I miss him! Thank you for sharing this fantastic video which is now on my Favorites List. :-)
Thank you ever so much for posting this.... i can listen to liberace for hours... not seen this one.. going now have to look at your other postings... thanks again....
