I was there visiting my grandparents and the only thing that worried me was when i was swimming out to the far boueys and through the seaweed that the stergen would come eat at my feet
only went to that beach once when I went to Army Cadet training there for my first year, my second year I couldn't go to the beach because of the forest fires, and the Staff Cadets had to get ready for their mess dinner so they didn't want to take us. Probably wont be back in Vernon for 2 years now. Wonderful area Vernon is, nice people, get to meet very interesting people from around the globe.
Tasha, it's too bad you never made it back to the beaches. Was a hot summer. I love all the cadets and what they do for Vernon. I've lived here 45 years and recall when the Army Camp was three times its size in the 1970s, housing thousands of Cadets. Was so cool. Still is, just smaller barracks. Thank you for doing what you do for Canada. Hope you do make it back here. Cadets are fine upstanding young people who bring life to our city. Stay safe and keep up the great work.
Thank you, I really enjoyed doing the freedom of the city this year and it was one of the most memorable experiences I've had that summer. I will make it back to Vernon one way or another, either as a staff cadet on my final year or as a future CF Reservist as a volunteer for the summer. Thanks for being such a good host for both my past summers, Vernon really is an amazing city.
I lived near there from 2001 to 2006, great place. My and some buds would go down there drinking on weekends along with other partygoers, lol. I remember one time, some guys threw in their GFs in the water at 1-2AM, lol. Plus you could hear the owls and the coyotes. It was great! too bad its getting more, 'urban' now..
Your Grandfather was a very lucky man. Nice location for a home.
One of my favorite memories of Kin Beach, from so many memories, was that of my eighth birthday. Some friends and I frolicked and played. Such a great time in life. Heading out to the Okanagan Landing area always seemed like a vacation... great feeling when a kid.
Earliest memory of the beach is from around 1973-'74 -- the whole beach from one end to the other was plastered with beach goers.
Thanks once again for your great videos, so many memories. I remember my Dad bringing me to the playground there when I was a kid. I remember my favorite piece of playground equipment being that merry go round thing lol. I actually believe it's still there because I remember bringing my kids there when they were younger and it was still there.
I used to live in kelowna but i never knew there was an ogopogo ACTUALLY living in the okanagon lake at first i thought it was a myth until seeing this video...im scared to swim in the lake now lol
It has its bad points. It has its charm. Like any city or town -- there is good, there is bad. It is not the town of old. But, so much better than some.
I totally agreed with your previous message.
You hit the nail on the head with each downfall presented. I wanted to keep the post up.
However, I deleted the message due to the use of an expletive in your rather eloquent post.
I very much agree. Never spotted the water monster Ogopogo, either. Seems to make the Kelowna/Penticton area home. It does have the freedom to swim north, though. If it does come north, and perhaps it has a zillion times, ...I'd rather not spot it. Monsters scare me. I'm a fraidy cat.

lol isn't it Kalamalka lake in Vernon, not okanagan lake
Honewsgirl 4 years ago
This is Okanagan Lake. Kin Beach to be exact. Nice place, never too busy. Love this beach on breezy afternoons. Ahhhhh..... relaxing.
CR250R40 4 years ago
Ah must be South of vernon than. Yes it looks beautiful.
Honewsgirl 4 years ago
Yes, South-West of Town. Ten minutes away. Tiz very beautiful near the water. Thanks for the compliment.
I do have video of Kalamalka Lake. However, it's too dark to upload.
The two lakes and beaches look very much alike. Can see the confusion. Both have their respected beauty.
CR250R40 4 years ago
there's both. and there's also swan lake ahhh how i love vernon.
