God it's great and then the chorus is horribly produced, it's just done wrong. But a fantastic song. I am not saying it's bad because it's upbeat, it's just too much, the beauty of the song is in it's economy of sound. The kinda verse-y bits are incredible though.
Aussie Music has never been the same. Any music for that matter. Ahh the 80's. Aussie Crawl, Cold Chisel, Dragon, Mondo Rock, Ice House, Men at Work etc........,
@monkeyboy4746 I didn't know that Captain and Tenille were a "gay-ass band" either. But I WILL say that Toni Tenille's hair was SOOO 70s and this band's clothes are SOOO 80s. All that would make them more 80s would be an asymettrical ponytail, or perhaps some loafers worn with no socks...
This is a great song, about half the songs on the album were great, check out "maybe only I dream" and "Another day in the big world". Too bad Grace went over to the dark side (Jazz).
Weird how this song just suddenly popped into my head & I stared singing it some 20+ years after I last heard it! So glad to find it again! I just love that "Ooooh-Ooooh..." :)
To me this song was like the more optimistically yearning twin of Big Pig's Breakaway and although they're both good, I think I prefer the happy twin.
@batarang69, Maybe the reason bands today can't sing like this is that they sing to enrich themselves, unlike the bands of yesteryear, who used to sing to enrich us.....
@batarang69 AGREE! It seems that they (bands/artists) took more chances and pushed out further than bands of today - pitch perfect synth-music-voice software???? WTF is that? If an artist needs that, they shouldn't be on stage. Can you see Bono @ Red Rocks using that? LOL
I totally agree. But I think the "pitch perfect synth voice software" is a sign of the times. Music is disposable, and it's a disposable culture where things only last a short time hence why a lot of bands today sound like shit.
How did I forget this song?! This is such a great example of 80's pop and I'm amazed I forgot all about it. Incredibly easy lyrics, great hook and awesome beat... Makes ya wanna dance.
The beginning makes me think of Palm Beach, Sydney on a hot day mid week when no one is about. Walking the dog early in the morning, the smell of the sea, the noise of the surf , crystal clear blue sky - one of those days that you think or hope is just not going to end.
I met Ron Francois about 10 years ago when he was living on the NSW Central Coast (he may still be). He was such a nice guy. I had to do some work on his computer, and when he found out I enjoyed guitar, he showed me his studio and let me play one of his guitars. I'd heard of the Eurogliders then, but didn't really know who he was until I saw the gold records on his walls.
This song takes me back to the best time in my life, mid '80s. Wow thanks for posting this great song. It brought back so many wonderful memories. Loved the '80s.
Makes me think of my lonely home town ('home' actually being a misnomer) searching a better place, and living rather than just being alive, much like the purport in the place shown in video - what a great song, good old 1980s!
i tryed out for this band... the chick and the guy turned up so stoned they couldant play... they tryed out every drummer in perth. fucken crap . stoned musos. . they probly did a villi manilli. to get a contract.. fucken shocking. they guy was a gay cunt. that wouldant stop looking at me... fucken bad energy.. oh brother...
It was good to see this video again, some elements of it have stuck in my mind for years since I last saw it way back in 1989. That song brings back some memories too, particularly the year of 1984.
I haven't seen this clip since I was a boy, for some reason it always stuck in my head and I wanted to see it again; great song; very nostalgic for me
Such glorious song writing and delivery by Eurogliders. This track, as well as several others by this band, have NEVER left my mind or player. Thanks so much for the wonderful music. You make this life, which can be daunting, certainly feel like 'heaven'.
My parents owned a small music business & my sister and I tagged along to functions. On one night with <25 people we watched a huge screen playing hits before they were hits (Wake me up, Oh Sherrie...)and after Heaven played, Eurogliders walked in and mingled rest of night before Playpen performance.Amazing exp.for a 16 year old.Dad died earlier this year and only wish I'd thanked him as M&Mech's recommended, in the living years.
Thanks for your story Nelle. Sorry to hear about your dad. I'm sure he knew that you had fun that night.......it was probably written on your face. Where was your parents music business?? And what was it? Take care. Bernie Lynch
Really nice video! Would would really like to live in such dead place! Scarcely populated, unemployment, unimaginably boring and dry landscape! The old man on a rocking chair, Tinsmith, the lonely boy, the lazy brat on the back of a truck. Trying to put myself in her shoes, sometimes it's not really " there's no place like home" in such situation! Really awesomely amazing. Thanks mate!
oooooooooooooooo i want to find a better place! no really i do!! mmm i love this song it brings back memories of my nauty teen years mmm those really were the days! and thats the place ide like to find again!!
Still sounds as good in the present as it did back when I was such an oh so impressionable 5-6 year old. Truly one of the best and most memorable songs ever written.
This song is about HOPE. In the world that we now know, which is nothing like the Eden of which we were told, arose HOPE that something greater exists after we leave this life. We live, but with the promise of Heaven where there's no war, famine, disease, pain or death, we don't want to LIVE in this place.
I love this song! Growing up as a teenager in Hawaii in the 80's I thought I was the only one who loved this song! Great to see I wasn't alone and that there are so many fans of this great sounding band and it's awesome lead singer! Aloha!
I'd like to see the Eurogliders film clip of 'Absolutely!' if anyone's copied it? It was featured upon 'Rock Arena' last time, as part of Rage's summer simulcast looking back on the 80s.
Thank you! I used to sing along to this song from a small bedroom in the midwestern US. I still sing it. It's amazing how we are all continuously searching and searching.
