Actually it IS IMPOSSIBLE, the zombie-part of the dead rising again and going down only by headshot like in "Dawn of the dead" films or "The walking dead".

The possible story is "28 days later", living people infected with virus, in blind rage, but killed like normal ones.

Basic law of biology: the body cells need a constant suply of oxygen and such for them to have the enegy to function at all - impossible without blood circulation.

A zombie couldn't even blink with his eyes.

The tagline of the original DOTD was: 'When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth", so maybe it's not a scientific reason (toxins, viruses, etc.) to why it happens; maybe it's religious! Too many people go to hell and then there's not enough room, so the souls are sent back to earth (in a demonic style) and when you get bit, you really just become possessed by a demon! Your mind=blown! :O
