  • em, how to save the image after we colored the background transparent? for example, i've colored the background transparent and all left is the image that i wanted, but when i saved it into jpeg, the image background is white instead of transparent. is there a way to save the image so that the image background is transparent n not white? thanks in advance.

  • @YongTheEldest Save the image as .png file.

  • lol you funny

  • can you do this with video

  • @iGeorgeApple1 @iGeorgeApple1 the gimp is a photo image manipulation program not for video. unless you want to tear down the video frame by frame and edit each one individually (so you would have to edit 30 images for one second of video [assuming you're filming at 30fps, which is very likely])

  • watch?v=ZIlnc_j7RYY

  • this worked great thanks

  • shit sorry that was me at 6:15 I got a little to lose at that party. on the other hand how did my pic get online

  • 5:00 no this is not me LOL

  • -.- geez, for all images i cut out just use free select tool lol

  • Would be fun if that actually was you

  • dude this is not a green screen effect this sucks. I like your tutorials, but this is just like cutting and image out, and pasting it in a new one.

  • that is you! not really i know. but you didnt have to mention that.

  • nice tutorial..i'm just trying to get rid of that cut out look i get when i use the free select and fuzzy select tools..which seems like the easiest way for me n i do becuz i dont have a green screen..lol..but thanx ; )

  • How does he know that the pen pads are the best if he doesn't have one?

  • Dude this is the same thing as just making the pic as an alpha channel then using an eraser nice try tho

  • How do to this with a video ?!

  • lol, i can not imagin that guy whit ur voice, good tut

  • Can't you just select the Colour Tool and select edit and cut then none??

  • Wouldnt using the paths tool do the same

    thing?

  • @doghouse144 IS IT JUST ME OR DID THIS TAKE LONGER THAN GETTING A PATH TOOL AN CUTTING HIM OUT?

  • this is not green screening it is masking that is why its called mask! god!

  • You don't need a greenscreen!

It workes as well without the greenscreen.

The man could stand anywhere and it would work!

  • lmao no one i mean no one would think thats you

  • Thanks for the vids, im learning a lot.. appreciate this!

  • but I've always invisioned you as an older black male.

  • the pen thing you were talking about is a tablet lol

  • Nice job but doesn't all that work negate the purpose of the green screen. This guy could have been in front of a house and the same technique would have worked.

  • nice job

  • i like your tutorials and im a great fan but wouldnt it be easier to just erase it instead of masking it and all that

  • 6:15 haha lolololzzzzz he gotta pic of a topless chick lolz

  • Not topless. My brother was doing a report, thats either carry walsh or Misty may.

  • @natennateproductions she ins't topless, she's wearing a red bikini

  • a tablet is what the writy thingy is

  • i works!

  • so, if i did want to paint the background black i'd have to apply the layer mask

  • what i'm looking for is something where i take away the green so i can still have thin stuff visible like some hair in the wind or something... not this painting down.

  • and when you were trying to paint it, you could have gone to layers and locked the mask layer.

  • the painting was a waste of time, you could have just outlined the guy with a path then did copy then delete him and fill the backround with black thewn just pasted him.

  • well depends what you view as taking more time, going around him perfectly, or erasing around him perfectly ;)

  • you mean pen tablet...

  • When I was done cutting out the old backround, I picked a picture (as a layer) for the new backround. But it's really small. How do I make it bigger so it will fit as a whole backround?

  • right click the layer, and scale layter ;)

  • Why not just use the pathfinder tool to cut him out??

  • so.... the green screen was pointless and I could just take it with a normal background? Not sure.... try fuzzy select...

  • Thanks!, I've tried everything BUT this

    :)

  • you know that is you in the picture the voice matches lol

  • Your evil toniomac1.

  • This video has a giant hole in the middle of it.

...Wait, just kidding, that's the man. Meanie.

    Nice tutorial.

  • Comment removed

  • When you're coloring it in, wouldn't it just be way faster to use the smart edge select tool and invert it so you can't color in it?

That would be SO much faster!

  • yes it would, but I made this tutorial a while ago and was not aware of it.

  • Oh, ok.

BTW I love your vids. I've been working with Gimp for a little bit and I'm getting a lot better! ;)

  • can you show me how to do this?

where is smart edge select tool situated?

    gimp>select tab?>???

  • In your toolbox, by the select tools, It's a little scissors icon. It's smart edge select. Then you just click around the object and it select it by contrast. Then you go to select > invert. Now you're working outside of the selection.

You just change it so you're painting transparency and make it a huge brush and just go all over the image!

    Hope this helped!

  • you help a lot thanks!

by the way, how to unable the dot-dot-like after I use the scissors tool without any changes?

  • You go back to where you started to complete an inclosed area and you'll see the dots. Then just click inside the area. IT will turn it into a selection. Hope I helped again! xD

  • I'm new to gimp, but can't u just use the path tool? That's what I use most of the time.. btw, great videos!

  • lol 2.25

  • I know my sister didn't know I was doing a tutorial.

  • Alright, thanks! Now I finally know how to cut out faces to add to random Pictures.

    Thanks alot!

  • cant you use colour select? :S

  • I show you in the video that you cant.

  • oh yea, i just saw that part, i was getting my headphones the 1st time, thanks :)

  • are you Ellen Page? b/c you sound a lot like her...

  • No I'm not ellen.

  • Are you stupid? I DO use color to alpha, and it makes is semi transparent. Look at 0:32...

  • what I would do ( but which would take longer) is select the person/thing and go to selections then click float, but god anyway. I thank you for all of these tutorials

  • Thanks, the reason i don't do that is that with this way, you can get more precise.

  • nice i was wondering how to do that with GIMP. thanks

  • Your welcome

  • This is sooo much better than tracing them out with the Laso. This just made my Signature Editing that much more easier.

    Thanks....

  • Your welcome, the scissors are OK for this task as well.

  • omg i got gimp but im totally bad at it all , i try to copy what you do step by step , and still im totally rubbish...... still man ur amazing at using this keep it up im subribed !

  • Cool.

  • excellent tutorial...very thorough explanation.

  • thanks!

  • how about if u cut him out with the laso thing and the magic wand dand paste him infront of the space picture

  • you could do that, but for full shots taken with the green screen, (ie. action shots) it would probably be easier to paint transparency.

btw. the "lasso" is the free select tool

  • what about the magic wand wen u get a goo out line then you can paint with the transparcy

  • umm...Whats the magic wand? and what is "wen u get a goo out line"?

  • magic wand is colour select and it hink "goo outline" means "good outline"

  • and i mean "i think" not "it hink" =P

  • I don't know what you "hink" (sorry, too good to resist) But I think magic wand is fuzzy select.

  • This could also be done with the Path tool

  • Cool! Good that you said you aren't that person, or else I would be thinking you're him.

    :D

  • Yeah, I made sure I said that, no offense to the person that was in the picture.

  • You cut off part of his head before you put the background in, but you get 5 stars =D Great tutorial.

  • yeah..that gae me the idea for the really crappy joke putting holes in him -_-.

I should NEVER EVER try to be funny.

If I do try to be funny, just let me know, and i'll correct myself immediatly.
