Most whites however could not afford slaves, it was mainly the upper class who had slaves, mostly white but also some free blacks had slaves. In 1860 only a minority of whites owned slaves. The U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived in the slaveholding states. Even if all slaveholders had been white,that would be 1.4% of whites in the country

@durhamdf And addressing the issue of slavery, the majority of slaves were generally treated decent, many on large plantation were not, but on family owned farms it was more economical to treat them well, not because they liked them or because it was right, but simply because the slave could work harder longer. It you worked them to death it would be a bad return on your investment. So since whites and blacks were both slave and master, what exactly you expect the U.S. to do to solve this issue?

Treating them ok would have been not chaining them to a boat and dragging them 2K miles around the globe to work against their will and have their feet chopped off if they run! We need to invest MUCH more in inner city schools where the demographics are largely black. We need to continue to encourage colleges use affirmative action programs and any who can (reggardless of race) should pay for this.

I'm White and I can surely see the wisdom in Rev Wright's preaching but two things jump out at me:
The United States is not fully controlled by "rich white people". The United States is controlled by Jews. Yes, there is a difference, which Rev Wright surely knows, but chooses to ignore.
