I remember hearing this song when I was little on this advert where the boy is underwater, looking for a pearl. I'm 16 now, it's taken me years to find it. Doesn't surprise me that it's Karl Jenkins, he's amazing
when you feel your soul shake, when you feel your heart break. when you fell like you can acomplish anything. When you feel like nothing is possible. When you triumph above all odds. When you are crushed lower than the ground. This song captures these contrasting feelings with an ability that surprises all. To Have a song that can shake the human core as this does is a rare song indeed. Many songs now are just pieces of breath that come out chopped and bashed about. This song is from the soul.
The reasoning behind the quasi-language was the need to use vocals without any meaning subtracting from the overall effect.
Unfortunately the effect is to make the music somewhat boring, as with repeated listening the `lyrics` can be learned. It would have been better perhaps, to have used an archaic, or otherwise unfamiliar, language to achieve more complexity.
That said, this is a beautiful piece of music, of which I never tire.
It nice to see that you spread the love but then go and put nasty comments on other peoples pages. Total faker..... Don't be taken in by this guy. Just clocked his comments on a Yoga Lesson. (_*_)
I think the pictures are very suited for this song. It's like I'm walking through the forest and there are fairies everywhere around me and I'm overwhelmed by their beauty and music. Very nice!
Did you know that a theory says that Karl is hearing these tones and lyrics in his dreams? And not just that, as far as i know he is hearing the musics of Atlantis. Really.
Music is a purely emotional creature; it doesn't necessarily need understood words to pass along its message. I love jenkins' music because it striked me to my very core and that's to me at least, the sign of great music. As for tears, I see tears of joy and hope in this piece. Amazing.
It's ironically funny that Jenkins thought the same way (music needs not meaning of words) when naming his work Adiemus thinking the term does not exist thus listener doesn't have to be occupied with lyrics. Turned out that the term did exist and has a meaning. It's a great piece of music nevertheless but I thought the whole thing was irony.
@Raevynschylde "Music is a purely emotional creature; it doesn't necessarily need understood words to pass along its message."
this is just beautiful what you said. I was searching for the words to express that as i'm not really good with bringing to the outside what i have in my head. i wish i knew your name so i could put it next to that in my "inspired words" or "words of wisdom" :)
@billsdestiny --you are very welcome. I never thought my comment would mean so much to others. Drop by my YouTube page--Raevynschylde's Nest. Music is truly a universal language; the melody alone can affect people who don't even share the same language the same way. Music is a powerful unifier that often gets left along the wayside.
First, like any of the tracks on the Adiemus albums, are not in any language. The 'lyrics' are made from syllables and 'words' invented by Karl Jenkins, the composer. They are specifically designed to not distract attention from the pitch and timbre of the voice - it's supposed to enable the voice to act like an instrument, nothing more or less.
We sung a song from adiemus and it went something like "aravatuwe akala" etc. They're like words but not in any language we know. I think he tried to emulate latin but not to use it.
i faintly remember a text i read in one of the covers about 15 years ago, that it indeed is an invented language, but one that should reflect the tribal languages of africa a bit.
it's quite easy btw. Easier than remembering actual words because the syllables support the melody and repeat A LOT. I participated in a project that performed Adiemus I, remembering the words was a piece of cake, achieving the sound of an African woman was not... Still, a lot of fun.
Very moving the music. What have those trees see in the past?

You don't always need words. Sometimes, a song is defined by the emotions the music creates, and not the poetry behind it.
