  • i find it SO hilarious what some of you thought he was saying at the beginning. he was saying fucking DYING BED MAKER. not dying dead ... LOL!

  • i believe he is saying he's a dying dead nigger.

  • Is he saying, "I'm a goddamn nigger" at the begining? Good song by the way.

  • @psudeoaccount

    He's mumbling "he's a dying bed maker" ;)

  • @psudeoaccount - live with the ambiguity until you get an answer.

  • @StrongHeartLives - better - to hold silence in your heart for your entire life rather than to ask if the word you should hear should be 'nigger' or something else...

  • One of my favs from Charley Patton. Cheers!

  • he reminds me of levon helm and howlin wolf

  • Damn this is haunting...love acoustic blues recordings! Does anyone know where I can find these lyrics online?

  • W.C. Handy the socalled father of the blues was traveling through the south and at a stop in missisipi he heard a old ragedy blackman playing blues guitar. He never heard anything like it befor and he claimed it for himself. I wonder if that was Charlie Patton he saw. He never said the name of the musicain.

  • Dockery was hell on earth. Rest in peace Charlie.

  • What a pity there are no authenticated photographs of this amazing musician. Somehow the one and only extant image we have of him does not seem to fit the voice

  • @zthetha dont judge a book by its cover. are you prejudice? youre prejudging

  • @doox420 Hi - thanks for reply. What's the difference between my 'prejudging' - as you term it - and arriving at one conclusion and you 'prejudging' and arriving at another? Presumably you think the image fits the voice - fine - that's only an opinion not a prejudice. There is a difference. And in any case if it's him - it's him; and if it's not it's not and no 'prejudice' can change either eventuality.

  • Patton used to preach on occasion between his immense travels through the Delta. He also recorded some gospel-like blues as well. What an interesting man! God bless.

  • you misspelled our savior's name?

  • @KittiesJason nope, that's how it appears on the records. Maybe some older form of the name. I haven't got a clue, being a total atheist ;)

  • [KunstDoel]...really, it's on the records like that?...that's crazy! wow! Charley's awesome none-the-less! (smile)

  • @KittiesJason ahhhhh, damn, I've replied, using the wrong account again.

    Damned auto-log-ins ;)

  • [sobie99]...relax,..it's cool! (smile)

  • @KittiesJason the same god

  • @KittiesJason I'm sure Jesus never spelled his name once in the english language.

  • @SqueezeMyLemonBabe....non-the-less how long have you spelled the word apple correctly IN ENGLISH? just because you were'nt there at the time it was decided that (a-p-p-l-e) was the correct spelling in our language, does'nt mean you can just change it one day and it be exceptable, or in this case "respectable!" and by the way lighten up...it was just a simple observation! you can always tell when people are bored to death!

  • Always thought he had very white features...

  • Yeah, the true descent of Charley Patton is unknown, but there's clues that he was probably a mixture of black, white and cherokee.

  • @sobie99 heh, anyone what worries about stuff like that is no account. N'matter where dey from, be it up town bahstahn or solitary at angola up for 6 life terms. He's was a man that could out play purt near anybody, any time day or night, drunk or sober, ill or well. What the hell are you fools worrying color fo'? Only racist sack of shit cares what color you are, wel that and damned politicians who are racist by definition.

  • @SEANFIR you can tell that he's only partially black because of his nose

small and relatively narrow unlike any other black man

  • @TheMahagoni Kinda looks like Alfred E Newman's great grandaddy! it's amazing that these ravaged original pressings are the only legacy, and still it shines through! I do a lot of archiving and I can really bring out the hidden nuances of these old 78's... wish I could have a crack at a few of these!

  • @SEANFIR roger that

  • @TheMahagoni hey rafcist, who gives a damn? huh you dirt bag...sheesh you are worrying about NOTHING. You can't tell from the genes so scum like you have to worrry the skin. I hope you and your lot get the clap.

  • Ishman Bracey.. couple at dockerys farm.but charlie .they loved charlie

  • Granted, there were how many OTHER blues players at the time? Definitely not many guitar players.
