i do not know if it is still used. but the old lathe in my factory, use this system to change the tools. it is not a cnc, but a fully mechanical machine, which is controlled with some kind of camshaft.

Its used in the projector to feed the film in front of the shutter. Pauses the frame while the shutter opens and closes and then advance to next frame. Pretty cool.

I designed this Gear using WinCam, Did not know they were used in a projector
