We should have no qualm about scorning the self deluded, irrational, parasitic religious. They deserve no respect, only ridicule, disdain, and contempt. There ridicules beliefs are 1st century ignorance and fear at its worst. It is of the utmost importance for the health of civilization to eradicate the god virus.
I think now, especially for people living in first-world type countries, religion shouldn't be needed.. however for countries where things aren't so easy, and for pretty much the whole world during the past say 1000 - 50000 years ago, when people had no clue and needed answers, religion was definitely needed.

I watched the movie Religious by Bill Maher and he talked with a Catholic Preacher at the Vatican who openly admitted that the Bible is completely out dated in terms of scientific knowledge. Even the Catholic Church accepts evolution (Even though they were still geocentric until the 1980s). Funny how American Christians still can't make that connection.
