THIS WAS SHIT THE MESSAGE IS THAT ULTIMATELY ONE CAN FIND REDEMPTION FOR THEIR DEEDS BUT WHAT DOES KENSHIN GET HMMM AFTER ALL THE SHIT HE GOES THROUGH HE ENDS UP SUFFERING THIS MUCH ITS PATHETIC
But wait just a sec, the original manga finishes at when Kenshin is around.. 30 something? I guess? because kenji is a baby at the time. This OVA is set when Kenji turns 15 and Kenshin turns 42 or something.. so isnt this like a continuation of Watsuki's rurouni kenshin? not a spin off?
i thought the original creator (Watsuki) of this anime disapproved this because of its sad ending. for me the original one is far more better than this one.
having lepera means everything is starting to die from your body it starts with the skin and then the nerves eventually you'll die. a very commom sickness in that age
i think of this ovas as the continuation of the manga ( though many scenes are seen in the manga but well who cares it was good enough to repit it without the need lol)
if i watched this again i would watch
anime 95/95 episodes first or perhaps de 4 first ovas and then the anime but definitely the 2 last ovas go at the end
if u watch anime first it might have a higher impact on you cuz u wouldnt know that much about kenshin ;)
This ending doesn't suit Ruroken. This OVA ruins the already established message about living as well as you can despite sad experiences, being happy, moving forward, and forgiving yourself. The OVA may be a tear-jerker, but RuroKen needs a happy ending, not one where all of the struggles and triumphs of the cast are ultimately undone by disease and suffering. I can't imagine this ending being what Watsuki (the creator) would have wanted for his series.
He didn't want this ending. All he did was look at the script and said that kenshin went trougth so much crap that he deserved one. The true ending is in the manga series were kenshin lives happily forever giving his sakabato to yahiko.
I know the real ending to the manga quite well. All I mean is that Watsuki can't have wanted this depressing ending when he already established a happy ending for the series. :)
The manga ending is a nice happy ending, where as Samurai X is a sad and depressing story where the only way out for Kenshin is death, this one is more depressing but I like them both.
anyway at the end where kenshin dies he loses his scar meaning he is at last happy i think or something like that besides he killed lots of people it was expected that he would get sick
it's maybe an attempt to change crowd pleasing end and go with something more life-like...imo, karma. All those people he killed, all the suffering that he caused on others from losing loved ones.. i guess he's tryng to say in the end, you can't wash those sins away no matter how hard you try to attone, and in the end, you will pay for your mistakes in ways you never even considered, even if it takes a very long time..
I think the message of self forgiveness and perseverance runs true even with this story of suffering and death. Throughout the whole story of Kenshin, his inability to forgive himself and to gain atonement was his drive to protect others, but despite how much he has accomplished he was never able to forgive himself. The final scenes of this OVA gracefully illustrate how he has come to terms with his his life albeit only at his final moments. The cross scar was more than just a physical mark.
You are absolutely right. If you search on google, you'll find the interview with Watsuki being unpleased by the fact the series ended this way. He said "after all the crap kenshin had to go through, he deserves a happy ending".
@Kaasen I agree. The first time I stumbled upon these here on Youtube and watched them I thought the same thing. It's beautiful and well made, but it's depressing to the point of being too different from the hopeful positive tone of the series. Not to say that it isn't like real life-- all life ends in sickness, pain and suffering, be it sooner or later. The part that bugs me the most is Kaoru's illness. There is no way that Kenshin would ever risk her wellbeing.
This story is emotional and well-executed, but this ending that doesn't really suit Rurouni Kenshin. The series was bright and humorous despite everything, and this is just plain depressing.
thats basicly coz its an ova lol but really its because its the same type of story as in truiokuhen whitch is before the kenshin on like toonami same as this but from when he was a kid till him becoming a manslayer
how many eps are in here? this is pretty long...my bro keeps tellimg me there like more than 50 eps...but im not sure if its this one, or something else... kinda lost..hehe. ^-^' some one tell me whats going on! lol...
nah, hiten mitsurugi is "some kind of fountain of youth" (yahiko)....apparently whoever uses hiten mitsurugi doesn't age physically as fast as other people do.
I agree, as far as i'm concerned, sinc eit's an ova and I think this one wasn't written by kenshins orignal creator... I refuse to acknowledge it>_> *hmph* Kenshin lived ot be an old fart, raising his son and died wrinkly old and happy. So there! lol
ily with kaoru, farmed a bit, had his son and maybe a daughter, they died together peacefully in their sleep. THAT is what happended, although this is beautiful i do not accept it as true, as a fan, the story i think is true for ,me, not this ova, so there kenshin! :) rant over
kenji was different outlook than kenshin...so sad for the father-son part...kaoru don't want to make her son worry to kenshin that's why she never told kenji about the probs...
there's areason why kenji hates his father 'coz kaoru never told him the probs..if only kenji knew, he will understands..
Exactly! And he was so powerful before. I understand that Kaoru said his fighting style had destroyed/deteriorated his body..but his master is still able to stand and doesn't seem affected at all.
That´s because his master has a more proper body for his fighting style, just look at him he is really tall and strong and kenshin´s body was in comparation very small
Ohhh..ok. I see. It makes a bit more sense now. I always just figured that sword fighters were supposed to be small and thin; to make them faster or something. Thanx for pointing that out, btw.
Nope, it's not just you. He looks old to me too. But I guess 15 years does that to a person. Look at Sano!! He has whiskers haha! And Yahiko! The little runt grew into a man!
Wait wait wait. So. Perhaps. Part of the disease were the markings on her chest. Like the ones on Kenshin. I see I seeeeee. Ah. So many details in this show. I love it. <3 [thank you for uploading.]
so sad episode, b4 seeing this ovas i thought kenshin would teach kenji the hitten mitsurugi ryu but then i watch this ova and i discover kenshin is half dead already
but kenshin vowed not to teach the hiten mitsurugi ryu to anyone, because he refused to accept the title seujiro hiko from his master...and refuse to wear that heavy cape hiko always wear which is the title of the mitsurugi master or sth like dat.
wait wait wait...does kenji [ kenshin's son] grow up to hate his father?
in the beginning he said somin about facing him

the hiten mitsurugi ryu? he says he wants to learn it to be better than his dad? why does his dead suffer so much...he dies with his son disliking him
