  • knicks played beautiful hoops

  • This brings wetness to my eyes, I love these guys, cherished memories , I was lucky to meet Bradley a few times before and after DeBusschere was gone , Bill is a good humble guy, let's go Knicks I hope you win one before I'm gone.

  • What few people realize is how close they came to a dynasty. Their defense was the best in the league at the time. Had it not been for the injuries they could have won three championships in a row, at LEAST. Their intelligence and unselfishness defeated teams that were faster and quicker.

  • @darunguy Unquestionably one of the smartest teams of all time. They had no superstar. Several great players, but their greatness was their ability to put aside their personal egos for the betterment of the team. Incredible defense. Monroe, maybe the greatest individual one-on-one offensive players of all time, changed his style of play to fit the Knicks' concept of team offense and defense. Debusschere was one of the most underated players in NBA history. Reed and Frazier were brilliant.

  • I remember that comeback against the Bucks in November '72. My father and I were going crazy in the living room watching that game! I knew the Knicks would be the team to beat after that game! These guys were all deserving of the title Mr. Knick and not Patrick "GAME SEVEN INDIANA '95 FINGER ROLL MISSED" Ewing!

  • @vccstudents i couldn't see it on channel 9 because it was a home game. but i was able to see it a few days later on a spanish channel. bad reception full of static and all.

  • some great moments growing up watching this era. I was never a Knicks fan but I always respected them. I was however a Walt Fraizer fan, simply one of the best guards to play the game. An all around player which is very rare these days.

  • The smartest pro sports team ever by far! Phil Jackson and Bill Bradley everyone knows as brilliant basketball players who had incredible careers after their playing days. How about Jerry Lucas who memorized the entire Manhattan phone book (remember phone books?). And Dick Barnett who went on to get a PHD and taught at St John's university. Walt Frazier, their playmaker was brilliant. And Dave DeBusschere was another super-smart basketball player. They played the ultimate team game!

  • Ahh....yes, I remember...my childhood years in nyc. I was 11 and the greatest Knick fan. My friends, who were older and I, watched every second of this, no cable, no remotes, just us and soda pop. I went to bed so, so happy that night.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Back in the day before cable no one called a game on radio like Marv Albert in his youth.Watching this still gives me goose bumps...

  • The Knicks of the early 1970's epitomized what team work is all about. They were unselfish and everything was for the good of the team. Watching this video brought back wonderful memories of my youth in New York. Thank you!

  • @Doral4720 when you watch the nba now, your thankful you got to see the league when it was at it's best in the late 60's to early 70's!

  • As a Lakers Fan, I remembered this team beating us in the Finals. I was in 5th Grade that year. Even though I despised that Knicks Team back then, I have a World of Respect for them and their accomplishments of winning the NBA World Championship back then in 1973. Frazier, Reed, DeBusschere, etc were "World Beaters"! And now that we have Phil Jackson as our Coach, I never stop thinking about how we lost to New York in 1973. And it's a pretty good feeling at that!

  • NEW YORK

  • The Knicks of the early 70's didn't have a great player other then maybe Willis Reid but they had a lot of good & unselfish players who played great as team & had a great Head Coach in Red Holtzman who made all of their pieces work.

  • @FrsBigeasy Walt Frazier was a great player as well

  • @MrKnickslover

I wouldn't call Walt Frazier a Franchise Player someone you would build a Franchise around. But he was one of the best guards of his era.

  • @FrsBigeasy if one of the best guards at the time isn't a franchise player then who is? don't confuse a marquee player vs a franchise player. Clyde the Glide was all that.

  • phil jackson was in the knicks and the new jersey nets haha coach u are the best forward-center in the nba

  • Dave DeBusschere--R.I.P. New York Knicks fans will never forget you!

  • Knicks were an all-star team much like today's baseball Yankees. Reed, Frazier, Bradley and Jackson were drafted. DeBusschere, Lucas, Barnett and Monroe were all traded for.

The amazing thing is how well these guys decided to mesh. That's what stands about these guys. High-paid Knicks since then never have had a clue about this.

  • These Knicks might be the most complete team of all time and the compitition was so close back than. There were great matchups everynight.

  • Dancing Harry started dancing in baltimore he followed Earl Monroe to New york

  • Who did the Knicks trade to get Monroe?

  • @Roggiedodgie. Mike Riordan and Dave Stallworth.

  • thanks. sounds lopsided to me!

  • lol thats what i'm also wondering ....

  • Geez, that's almost as bad as Pau Gasol for...whomever

  • @Roggiedodgie Dave Stall worth and mike Rear don

  • reed, lucas, frazier, monroe,Debusschere, these are all TOP 50 NBA PLAYERS, what a line up.

  • As a Laker Fan, if you only knew how much I hated these Knicks back then.

Looking back, I realized that the Knicks were the better team back then. Guys like Monroe and Lucas were more hungrier, whereas Willis Reed had something to prove considering the fact that he was injured back in 1972. I have a load of respect for this 1973 Knick team.

To think, this would be their Last Championship Season as a team. They had a better chance in 1994, than they did in 1999.

  • Was that Marv Albert announcing Knicks Basketball back then? How far back was Marv Albert broadcasting for the New York Knicks?

  • Yes, that was and is THE Marv Albert. And, as a southern kid in North Carolina in the early '70's, I used to listen to him broadcast those Knicks games at night on WNBC-AM, New York, 660 on the AM dial(presently WFAN-AM). The radio signal was stronger at night. I even remember his call of that thrilling game posted on here against the Milwaukee Bucks.

  • Gee, I never knew this.

  • Since 1963.

  • Really?! Marv Albert has been announcing Knick Basketball that far back? He looks way too young to be broadcasting that far back.

  • Its called toupee, facelifts, and dental implants.

  • Oh, O.K. then.

  • How would the 69-73 Knicks do today? Probably not so great. Keep in mind that they're in their 60s now! They played the best team ball of all time.

  • 1 was 13 in 73 and i remember this TEAM well......

just saw dancing harry....,if ya go back this far ...you remember this dude that danced @ MSG ..during knick games

    fond memories indeed...

  • As a Milwaukee Bucks fan...I remember it well. But where was the 'old Madison Square Garden' located from the new Garden on 33th str? What is at that location now where the 'ole Garden' stood?

  • But what the hell happened to the Bucks? Didn't they have the Big O AND Kareem playing? That game almost seems like a hex been put on em.

  • The "old" Madison Sq was on 50th and 8th avenue. There was an even earlier version that was obviously located on Madison Ave, that's how the arena originally got its name. A building complex called Worldwide Plaza now sits in the site of the previous MSG.

  • that Milwaukee Bucks game ..actually the Knicks were down 86-68, with just under 6 minutes left, not just 86-78, scoring the last 19 points to win the game. I listened to that game on the radio as a teen in North Carolina, picking up that game on WNBC radio 660 AM. It was pure magic listening to Marv Albert back in the day.

  • I agree. This was when home Knick games were blacked out. I would spend Saturday nights at home or walking around my little town with a transistor radio and Marv's voice in my ear. And I saw and felt everything.

My sister's boyfriend took her to this game. I was home listening to Marv. I thought that was unfair. I remember Lucius Allen's missed free throws and the incredible run, and the sound of the Garden erupting again and again.

A gift of memories from my youth. Amazing games and team.

  • I miss Marv doing Knick games. Doing Net games does him absolutely NO justice. Who the hell cares about the Nets??? Damn Jim Dolan to hell!!

  • I was a young fan of that Knicks team. Thanks.
