  • You got a little to forward on the second refusal...I know because I've done it too (and fallen off)! lol! But you handled it beautifully. You let your horse look at it a second and didn't punish her at the bottom of the jump. Perfect. That makes it a "not so scary", good experience for her. It looked like a challenge, but you weren't asking too much of your horse. If I was judging I'd have to take of technical points for the refusal, but you rode it very well and gave your horse confidence!

  • exactly! if I had whipped her she would have kept freaking out and refusing. Silly little spooky tb mind. Haha I was the only one in the class so it didn't really matter that she refused. Yeah I've fallen off over refusals too

  • I know what you mean by dealing with a tb mind! Mine is sooo sensitive. I don't put people on her unless they really understand that. I see people whip the hell outta horses and it makes me sick. If anyone did that on my mare they'd be eating dirt! It really teaches a rider to be calm and not get frustrated.

  • yaa I know! my trainer wants me to whip her every time she refuses (like I do after the first refusal on this vid), but she'll refuse for 2 different reasons. but if I whip her she starts to forget about jumping and can just think about getting scared in front of the jump

  • Exactly, and it only makes it worse because they usually wont jump because they're scared and whipping them only makes them more nervous and they can end up flying around the course and make it really hard to make the adjustments before the jump because they are just so frantic. I lean forward sometimes too. I think thats the "need for speed" jumper in me. Lol, as long as you stay in the saddle right?!

  • haha I was trying to look hunter too and keep the light seat, so I wasn't sitting down before the jumps... but yeah we've got that need for speed too lol

  • It's so much funner fast! (as long as its under control). But hunters does make you ride better.

  • ya I know what you mean :]

  • oh and I used to fall off on refusals all the time haha until my trainer was like SIT DOWN BEFORE THE JUMP! and it works (:

on that refusal I think it looks like I'm forward, because when she refuses it I ducked down to shove my butt in the saddle lol so I wouldn't lose my balance and be thrown haha. I never lost my seat though :]

  • ahaha i see what you mean about spooking even if it didnt bother her before lol shes so cute :]

  • haha I was jumping in a lesson the other day, and we took this huge like 3'x4' oxer, and she did really well, so I gave her a streth canter circle after the jump as a reward and when the circle got close to the jump she looked at it and shied away. it was subtle but she Definetly looked at it scared, me and my trainer simultaneously burst out laughing, and everyone else in the arena was totally confused lol. It just proves that she'll jump something and still be scared of it

  • ahaha love it! but that must keep you on your toes :]

  • haha yeah just wait til I put a video up of us schooling today, she takes a 3'7" jump then refuses a 4' (not exactly sure how it was but it was ridiculous) in the very last stride, I'm surprised she didn't crash into it

  • ahahaha nice i wanna see that lol

  • that's good riding, ur right about looking at the jump! haha

  • haha yeah! but can't you tell after that second jump she has a lot more confidence? I think if I'd whipped her again she would have had a mini-breakdown lol

  • cool
