Salmon Fishing Northern California

My pet peeves are when outsiders want to put San Francisco into "Central California" and endangered species are harvested for sport. Catch and release people! Have we not learned anything?

I recently went aboard the El Dorado for some salmon. Had a blast. They rigged their anchovies the same way as in 0:42 (secs) into the video. Anyone know how to rig them like this? They used a hook with a twisted wire. The wire was used to create a bend in the anchovy for some action.

its not slaughtering, it's called harvesting. Each person you saw catching fish bought a fishing licence and is restricted to their catch limit for that day. The owner / operator of the boat you see in the video makes his living by selling an experience. It cost each person on that boat over $100.00 plus the cost of a fishing licence so if you do some math, you will see that each person paid about $30.00 a pound for their fish... Sorry, that is not a slaughter.

@dirtTdude yea it is, yes they mave have caught there limit but when theres all those people and catching there limit, this year in san fransisco the salmon run was very weak and scientists believe to see them wiped out from san fran in a year or two. do u know why salmon are becoming very endangered and WILL become extinct? becuase although people may catch there limit, when theres enough people they will out fish a stream or ocean. @spendizzzle if your local fish and game department opened it while that particular run department is in danger, they should be held accountable. i recommend writing them and discussing it with them. the actual reason / reasons wild coho and chinook are in danger is from both over fishing and or but not limited to netting, commercial fishing boats measure their catch by the ton, sport and food fish anglers only account for 5% of the loss, feel free to discuss it with the fish and game too

I was in CA about two years ago. We went fishing outside of a reef in San Diego I believe. It wasn't very deep, about 20-30 meters and I caught this strange fish. It was all red. But a different shape than the Gurnard you guys caught in this movie. It had the shape of a Bass-sort of, with more fangs. The captain told me it was a very rare fish and took my picture, but I cant for the world remember the name of it. Do you guys know what it was?

This kind of fishing (trolling) really isn't much fun on a crowded charter boat. Sure, you get fish, but many times end up losing the big ones because the idiot "stern hogs" won't move to get of your way when fighting a big, heavy slug King against the speed of the boat. Give me California style drift mooching with sliding sinkers and light line any time! Plus, the salmon are much, much bigger when mooching outside the Gate in the summer/early fall.
