  • i remember this!!!!! :D

  • finally saw Gilly was looking for her!

  • Back then... Wow, do I feel old at 26... this takes me back to being a child, Just arriving home from school only to witness the end of guiding light with my Mom/Grandmother, really. This is flatout depressing.

  • @stringoflies

And the sad thing is, is that that I come back to view this video, drunk.... I suppose I need help coping with the past. Either way, who else agrees that the 80's & 90's ruled in many different aspects?

  • OH I't's ANNIE! I LOVED the Annie character! I liked Cynthia Watros too. They had a fan club meeting every October and I was planning to go to the one that year, but my plans were postponed because I got a brand new nephew born one day later. I was going to get Cynthia's autograph if I had to stay in one place all day.

  • This is the opening I grew up with. I still can't believe it's gone.

  • !loved it

  • This was my favorite GL theme ever. I hated the live location shaky-cam thing in the end

  • This is about the last cast I fully remember. After that I started working a different shift, and by the time I'd get a day off, there would be all these characters I'd never heard of anymore. I was sad when I heard they were pulling the plug on GL, & later ATWT, having watched them w/grandma, back when I was a kid in the 70's. But I guess people like me were the reason they went under...I just couldn't contribute to their ratings any more, & advertisers don't pay for TVs that are turned off.

  • Whenever I think of soap music I always think of this theme first...I always loved this opening, the later openings they had were horrible. ESPECIALLY the last one. It looked like a Billy Graham Special.

  • LOL I so agree with you about the Billy Graham Special opening !

  • Who is the girl in the beginning of the opening Shrugging her shoulders ?

  • Lucy Cooper, Buzz's Daughter

  • @johnjohnjr01 Thanks I didn't expect anyone to get back at me with the reply that quick.

  • Guiding Light was simply an awesome soap and I miss it so much. The actors and actresses on this show were second to none! The only other soap that has top notch actors and actresses is As The World Turns. CBS has simply lost its mind in canceling these long time running shows. I also can't believe NBC or Soapnet wouldn't pick up these shows. Come on and step up to the plate! Don't you realize how many fans you would add by adding As The World Turns to your lineup? Also, bring back GL!!

  • @jgraefe1 Has Soap Net picked up GL yet?

  • @victoriaindigo

Soapnet has been cancelled, and will have their last airings in january 2012.

  • i loved guiding light during the 80s and

90s. loooooved it. why couldn't a cable show pick up GL? or are soaps too expensive to produce? hispanic networks do it.....

  • God love Cynthia Watros - she held this show together like glue in the mid-late 90s.

  • I always thought "As The World Turns" sucked and that "Guiding Light" was the best CBS soap but the soap was driven into the ground with the horrible directing and small town shots. It really sucked and it is a shame!

  • Guiding Light is the best CBS soap, true it has been sucky since 2006 to the present, but overall throughout history it was always my fave cbs soap.

CBS should cancel As the Channel Turns or The Boring and the Beautiful instead.

  • you have to be kidding, i really enjoy B&B and as the world turns isnt too bad. The one CBS soap i cant stand is the Young and the tactless now thats boring

  • rest in peace my sweet gl

  • @gct89 U made that up! Y&R is the best sosp on the air and to even put in the same category with The Old and the Incestous is insane. Get it together LOL! Oh well at least you still support your show no matter how terrible it gets.

  • No, "Guiding Light" actually 1st started being sucky (is that a word?) in year this episode clip is from (sometime earlier in the year) when Megan McTavish was brought on as headwriter & wrote Holly into a marriage w/ Fletcher when she still was in love w/ Roger (putting Roger into that awful marriage w/ Dinah) & bringing back Reva 1st as ghost & then as Amish person (there was some brilliance afterwards, especially surrounding Annie in 1997, but the writing on the wall started in '95 not '06).

  • at the end i prefer harley dancing over tangie with the wine glass

  • was annie married to phillip and rick?

  • @calypspoetryguy Ironically, they recently decided to cancel "As the World Turns."

  • This aired on Tuesday, September 5, 1995.

  • Whoa! That's the same day I started high school! Now I really do feel old...

  • bad news. guiding light has be cancelled im not lying the last episode will air on september 18, 2009, im so pissed

  • WHOA!!! YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! (Guiding Light)? The worlds longest running television show in history is being cancelled, after more than 70 years this show has been around from radio to television? ARE YOU SERIOUS? WHEN DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS?

  • CBS made the decision to cancel GL on April 1, 2009. The entire daytime community is shocked by this. However, the show's producer and owner, Procter & Gamble Productions/Televest, is trying to get the show on another network and is not giving up.

  • too bad they didnt succede.thought nbc would take it since they only have days of our lives.guess they would rather stick to showing another hours worth of boring today show.cbs should cancel bold and beautiful.hate that show.not going to watch lets make a deal. watched guiding light for 35 years it was my wifes and mine favorite. going to miss it alot.

cbs should take into consideration all the people who dvr, videotape or tivo guiding light into the ratings.you suck cbs.

  • Demographics were completely different in 1995... Times change. You should be commenting on the most recent opening.

  • I think this is one of my favorite openings, if not my favorite.

  • first year with the animated CBS Stereosound logo used until 1996.

  • Back then, it was Stereosound.

    Today, it's now High Definiton.
