Nice demo man! Ordered my Tube Driver withou the bias knob, du you think I should gt he bias knob added? What is the difference? Nice playing! Peace, -Gottfried
@gottfriedbrux The bias starves the voltage to the valve making it simulate a lower gain valve. It has a totally different sound and feel to just turning down the gain. Ahh, wish I hadn't sold mine.
@MrTimothyWatts I Think I Here A Bit Of Jealousy In Your Reply... Obviously You Couldnt Play Your Way Out Of A Paper Bag... Maybe You Need To Take A Few More On-Line Guitar Lessons. Since You Haven't A Clue How To Reply Here On YT, Do Us All A Favor... Keep Your Non-Constructive Critiques To Yourself, You Classless Shmucko!
Thanks for this! I have this pedal, but had been talked into putting a Mullard 12AU7 into it (I don't have the bias knob). I put the BK tube back in and set it up as you did and OMG, this is now the pedal I was expecting when I bought it. Thanks so much for your demo!
I will have the bias version in a few days. Can't wait! Your demo was extremely useful!! Thank you! Also, rolling of the gain makes sense for the EJ tone as you are playing with a bridge humbucker.
Greetings from California, USA! Excellent video and great playing. Could you please detail the exact settings you use (including bias control) to best emulate the Eric Johnson "violin" lead sound. I couldn't quite get all the settings from the video. Thank you very much for any information you can share. Best wishes, Ron.
@rlemos Hey Ron, glad you like the video. Unfortunately I no longer have this pedal so can't go through how I use it. Of course though the same settings on your amp will sound different to mine. Good luck mate.
Hello again. I appreciate you getting back to me. Just curious, what is your overdrive pedal of choice currently? Also, could you share why you got rid of your Butler? Was there something you did not like or simply a different pedal better served your needs? Thank you,
@rlemos The Overdrives I'm currently using are a Bob Burt Overdrive and a Valvette Custom Drive.
My reason for getting rid of the TD was mainly because I needed the money and they hold their value reasonably. Also the TD was becoming a bit of a one-trick pony in my rig. The way I was taking my tone did not require this kind of fat, amp like sound, after all, my amp does that pretty well!
Very nice video and great playing too. I had a chance last week to demo an older version of this pedal in a music store. I spent 30 minutes with it, and like you said its very difficult to dial in a tone. The clerk knew nothing about it, so he wasn't any help. But after watching your video im willing to give a newer version a try. Look forward to seeing more videos, Thanks allot and best of luck - Jack
I just bought one of these, but the sound a bit harsh and too fuzzy. Maybe because my super tiny amp Roland Microcube, or maybe I need to explore this box more and more.
@ddos411 Well it IS a fuzzy sound. Like a saturated distortion. It will be top end heavy as new valves are quite sparkly and bright until they are burned in (anything from hours to weeks). Roll do the Hi knob some too.
Nice demo pal - thanks being so honest with the review. After spending 300 quid you really want to plug it in and be nursing a semi immediately - but at the end of the day most of the time we are looking for just that one sweet spot and it's worth twiddleing for a few days to find it - I've got three G spots on the Ecstacy Drive now so can't complain at all. Cheers S.P.
@mkhf580 Thanks for the nice comment mate! I try to be thorough and honest in the demoes, which is why it takes ages to shoot them and edit them which is why I only have a few up so far haha.
What are the advantages of the bias knob. I actually like EJ's lead tone better on his previous albums before he started using the bias knob. Wait, LOL, I love all his tones, including the new album, but I personally liked his lead tone the way it was. His lead sound is slightly different to me, so what are YOUR thoughts on the bias knob. Thanks brother.
@jrocky1 I really like the bias knob, turns the pedal from a one or two trick pony into something pretty versatile. I liked having the bias knob just under half way and the gain to match, you get a really crumbly, wall of marshalls sound.
@jrocky1 The more gain your using the more the compression stands out. The TD Does compress a reasonable amount, but so do most gain boxes. I like it, its musical.
I like this pedal a lot I just wouldn't pay around $300 for one pedal. I rather get a tube works pedal or a Nady td-1 or a to-1 and there is always the mod amp kits persuader. Great pedals and the tube works pedals are bk butler affordable tube drive pedals. -PK
Sounds great, really smooth tone. Are you using the amp distortion for the lead and then adding the pedal to that? Is that pedal really flat sounding without the delay? Thanks again.
@gargano3000 Thanks Gargano, shame you don't like the tube driver but each to their own. What do you like? If I have one, or something similar, I'll do something :)
you could just take a photo of the pedals settings and add it to the video ..of i have seen people use two cameras ,,or have it on a music stand near the camera ??
I put a Yugo 12AX7 preamp tube in my TD. Makes a big difference!,

@theGodSeat Thanks man.
Timmons actually uses an old three knob version branded by Chandler, but a very similar thing. Glad you liked the demo.
