I wonder if the stereo remaster used the exact same take? Slight difference on Paul's vocal, but it could be the mix that make it sound a bit different. I dunno.
Actually... the Hey Jude mono mix for the single was just a fold-down of the stereo mix we know today-- so there is NO DIFFERENCE in what you hear - unlike Sgt Pepper, etc. where different sounds and levels were used.
@seanswind HA, but there IS a difference! Listen to the piano part after "shoulder..... Na na na na na, na na na na". On the stereo version, the piano at this point (4 notes) is LOWER in volume compared to the rest, and I think this sounds weird. It's not like that in the mono version.
Whoa! Thanks a lot! Now I finally hear the difference! Thank you so much! And also thanks because now I know that I must always wear diapers because I don't know when I'm going to need them! Thanks a lot man!
i still prefer the the mono version by a long shot. the new version is way over the top. much too processed sounding to my ear. i think they got it right the first time.
Both are similar but listening to the remastered version on this video i could hear that the reverb of the vocals is more prominant, the piano seemed to have a more crisp sound,i could hear Paul Mcartneys wrist watch ticking and pigeons pecking on the studio roof. Thanks for uploading this video,it was very interesting to be able to compare both version side by side.
people you gotta hear the difference it makes in stereo! tiny nuances you just couldn't hear before all over the place! i suggest cranking it up for the second half,it's a little low...
Sorry to say this but when I hear a mono recording that moves me, I have the urge to record it and digitally enhance it in someway to get a stereo field from it. But thats just me. lol (Prob coz I wasnt born in the time of mono)

They sound the same to me. The stereo version maybe a little overmodulated.

EMI could use a major soundcheck for stereo...

I really like EMI's take on the stereo version with this one....The Beatles have never sounded better! Well done!

The stereo version clearly doesn't have the same emotional impact as the mono. It's way too muffled and subtle
