I'm from Ireland and I found one the other day! Cudnt believe the size of it! I thought I was from africa r sumfin! I thought he would scare me by flying he but played dead instead! Actually really cute wee/big thing, lol :)
i get them in rural england as well they freak me out soooooooo much, its when they get in my lampshade and ping about its honestly so loud! i fucking hate the month of may
I'm under siege by these horrible things every year, I can't even go out my house cos they chase me down and I'm sure they want to kill me !! They seem to be very localised though, some people here in England go their whole lives without ever seeing one! Whereas I can hear them pinging off my patio doors every evening as they continue their assault..........
nice video - what lens and camera did you use to shoot him? I shot one using a canon 5d mark 2 and a 65mm mpe macro lens - the it was really hard to keep the camera in focus as the depth of field was so shallow.
i see them all the time in england especially this time of the year! altho i do live out in the country so that probably helps, infact i saw one today on his back legs waving everywhere lol
I found one on my back porch in texas, although it must have been a different genus, for mine had stripes on its back. Yet it did have the same little moth like antennae. Only in England eh? hahahahhhaha. It was all hissing at me, and it was covered in fur, with many little mites covering its body? No clue. I told everyone I thought that I'd found a new species. I was really drunk, but I know it was a cockchafer.
Did you find him in the UK? I have never seen them in this country; I "grew up" with them in Germany where they are called Maikäfer (May beetle). They are followed by the Junikäfer (Phylopertha horticola) and the Julikäfer (Anomala dubia).
I have one in my collection which was found in Corvallis OR

I used a Sanyo Xacti HD1010 on the macro setting. Can get down to a centimetre from the lens.

Hi
Filmed him in SW France on 30th April. Called Hannetons over there. Banging against the windows at night when they are attracted to the light.
