It's been around since the 1800's and Ronnie Drew ain't that old. The instrument is an "octave" mandolin. Please don't comment unless you know what you're talking about!

No an octave mandolin isn't the same as a bouzouki but their are certain similarities. They can be tuned the same, a bouzouki has a longer neck.

The song is Chief O'neills Favourite, i think it was writeen by the Dubliners, as theyre the only people ive heard perform it. Its a mandolin.
