  • I love watching yur tutorials... Yu talk soooo much and its hillarious..!!! What program do yu use to record yur screen

  • @AhmedMahfouz012 it's actually done just in quick time. It's not the most effective for screen caps but it's cheap and it's a work flow that I can use.

  • ur jewish but u drink...... -_-

  • BTW, what are your settings in AE for your Edit>Preferences>Memory and Multiprocessing? My computer doesn't render as I scroll across the timeline like yours does... :^/

  • @Earationality just defaults there I think. "render multiple frame" on, CPUs for other applications 0, ram per BG cpu, .75GB ? You timeline doesn't get the green ticks at the top as you scrub through the timeline?

  • Been watching your tutorials for several hours and they are really good in my humble opinion. You do very well but don't take it or yourself too seriously (good on you!) Thanks for sharing! Note- Ctrl+Shift+C opens the pre-compose dialogue as well... But you probably already knew that... ;^)

  • @Earationality Well thank you very much. I've had mixed reactions to my keyboard commands. Some people really like it when I use and talk about shortcuts, but some people get really unhappy when I use them. It's a tough balance of how to explain stuff, but I'm glad you enjoy what I'm laying down. I try not to take anything very seriously, leads me to have a very enjoyable time all the time.

  • @ECAbrams Haters gonna hate. I could listen to you talk about keyboard shortcuts for... ...well for many many minutes. Most of them consecutive.

  • @Mattman4698 Lols. Maybe I should do one where I just go on about all the shortcuts. Could be a good quick one for this weekend in fact.

  • Can you make a place where we can download the audio for the intro?

  • 1:48 @ECAbrams why when i luma matte nothing seems to happen.... still just a plain black BG instead of the chalk board effect?

  • @JamieJones89 try luma inverted? What later are you using as the track matte for the luma values? Also is the reference layer 3d and the target layer 2d perhaps?

  • dude, u are the best.. just hilarious.. saludos from mexico.. im starting to learn after effects from the master!!!

  • @neocromater well mucho gusto senor. Glad to help where I can.

  • ..hes pro

  • This is really nice man, thanks alot. Love your tutorials, easy going :)

  • "Im birthing the universe"... this

  • @keios666 what can I say, I have a bit of a god complex when I'm working in AAE :)

  • i love you.

  • Although this tutorial as a whole did not help me much, since I am trying to animate to a song, a few things you showed will definitely help!

Also, even though your voice cracks sometimes, you are very funny, and I really enjoyed it.

  • @Rulerofwax24 Thanks! puberty is hard at 23. There's a part 1 of this tutorial that might be actually helpful? And one coming up about how to sync audio to typography so stay tuned for that fun time!

  • @ECAbrams Yeah, I came from that one, and spent a lot of last night looking at your stuff. Your recent things, I don't notice it. And I can't wait to see how you do it to audio! (For me, it is just a LOT of ram previews. 0 is my new favorite hot key.)

  • @Rulerofwax24 lol, well you might also want to give the "command" button a press and scrub on through the timeline. Makes some interesting noises. And hit "." to enjoy just an audio preview too.

  • Excellent tutorials, thanks.

  • @GraceVideoTreasures no worries, glad you like it!

  • Hey Evan, I have been following this tutorial ok so far however I am getting to 1:40 on this video and getting stuck. When I try to Luma Mat the texture layer the background just goes completely black. It almost looks like the texture layer turns off completely. Do you now what I mean or would it be easier to see screen captures?

  • @waterhurlinsucks i had the same prob as you. SO i just added overlay.. Its fine to make it your own!

  • loool started typing ''Peni...''

  • @WilliamNaville What can I say, I do it all for the lols.

  • Comment removed

  • you are funny dude and you know how to explain :) Tnx for tut!

  • @crackmaster88 no worries, I'm glad you like it. I've got others of varying hilarity and usefulness too :D

  • Definitely going to try this one next, how complicated is it for the moving text itself ?

  • @fatlittlebritishkid not too tough. It's mostly procedural. Just take your time and it should all work out ;)

  • you sound so much like seth rogan lol

great tutorials though, just got after effects and most of the other tutorials i've seen don't explain it as clearly, so thanks!

  • @CircusOfBedlam no worries. I do what I can when I can. I'm glad you find it handy.

  • You're hilarious (: i love you

  • @AtomicInfinity well thanks for saying so. Always nice to have the support.

  • YO EVAN! I don't like your orange.

  • @KennyGJE I don't like my orange either, but their name is on the lease so my hands are tied.

  • Good tutorial

  • @MrJustasR thanks champ!

  • can you make me a video for my business project? if you could that would be great (:

  • @Adaam3x I could indeed. I would recommend you PM me with the details and we'll see what I can do for you.

  • I have a question: How do you do motion blur/ camera blur in after effects? Like when the camera moves, the word blurs out?

  • @ImNoJadedImsoniac there are 2 ways. 1. Turn on the motion blur box on the layer then turn it on for the comp. It looks like 3 circles and is over on the left side of the layer next to it's name in the timeline. 2. Use the "Force Motion Blur" Plugin. That takes a lot more ram and makes for some harder and less natural results.

  • FINALLY! Videos that are actually HELPFUL when trying to learn after effects! Thanks heaps.

  • @NZappletech You are very welcome. I'm glad you enjoy them.

  • Man, do keep drinking when making tutorials. All those comments, from the 'being gross and narcissistic' to the written ones directed at your own words, damn. You are hilarious. AND helpful. AND I believe I just found myself a man.

Now, for real, thanks a lot for this tut, I just watched the whole thing in one go and now I'm going back to playing around with After Effects. If I come up with a question, I'll pop in again, but I just wanted to leave a comment anyway. Cheers, man!

  • @Safiradesu well thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoy them. I'm trying to get into a 2/month schedule so hopefully that works out.

  • Great tut man! I love the subtle humor (the renaming of your vinny layer/ and the text comments overtop of your video.

    fantastic.

  • @tphecht1 well thank you very much. I'm glad folks find it informative and entertaining. Let me know how the end result turns out for you.

  • Boom! Boom! Booinks! Now thats how to make a tuts! Not boring and will definitely keep you awake all along. (no caffeine consumed while watching the tuts) Great vid evan! keep em coming!

  • Boom! Boom! Booinks! Now thats how to make a tuts! Not boring and will definitely keep you awake all along. (no caffeine consumed while watching the tuts) Great vid evan! keep em coming!

  • Really awesome tuts, keep the humour goin´! "It´s like im birthing the universe" ! May I quote you on that haha?

  • That would be great if you could.

A tutorial dancing around with the kinetic typo.

    Thanks man!

  • Hey Evan

I'm trying to create something similar to the Moto Moto - Big and Chunky video from Madagascar 2. But with a real subject and not an animated hippo.

    How would I do this?

Would I create the kinetic typo first and place the keyed out subject on top?

Is this a fairly straightforward task?

  • @munkybarf as i see it the only option is to first story board out what you'll be making with all the elements and composite both at the same time. Make the keyed out footage a 3d layer as well as the text and it'll be fairly easy I do believe. At it's most basic level it's no different than the tutorial part 1 you've seen. Then it's just a matter of timing your keyed footage. I'll see if I've got any pre-keyed stuff around and make a tutorial of that.

  • Evan, that was super helpful!! I've never used After Effects in all my life, but after watching this, I want to use After Effects all my life. But seriously, It would be mighty marvellous of you if you could post a tutorial on how to add typography to moving image. I mean, how you'd position text in relation to the moving image. Do you understand. Coz I bloody don't!

  • @munkybarf Hello, I can for sure share some tips. I am something of a pro at these things. Can you share an example of what you're looking to create? There are many things that can be done depending on the look you want to create. I think you mean to composite an element into a scene so it's like it was there all along right? Like when the 3d MTV logo is floating in the background? Or the title sequence from Heroes? Either way send me an example and I'll see what I can do.

  • I second the motion to create a tutorial to a music track! I also followed this tutorial hoping to create something just as cool but my After Effects didn't have "Particle World" on it so it lacks the depth this one achieves.

  • You should do one for a song or something; that'd be pretty cool

  • @BellSpeakInc challenge accepted Mr. Bell! Stay tuned for more and thanks for your very well punctuated comment. Too few people use the semi colon these days.

  • the hole punching part doesnt work for me help again!

  • @lilninja42 For sure. Basically you're telling one layer to use the layer above it to define which areas are see through or opaque. So step one is to check your layer order. And after that cycle through the track matte box to see which looks correct or best to you. Then you can tweak the layer being used to define the matte with the curves or levels effect. That might not be helpful though depending on what the issue is, what's it looking like on yours that's different than the tutorial?

  • @ECAbrams basicly what was happening was when i put on the luma the whole background goes black, no designs from the cardboard....

i just finished though, i just got a design and put it behind instead of what you did

ill send you the video when i upload it!

    Thanks for all the help!

  • @lilninja42 Awesome! Glad you found a work-around. So much of after-effects is about finding a way to solve problems and coax the look you want out of the footage you have. I'm excited to see how it comes out.

  • thanks man, every other tutorial in here is so boring. how come youre not famous or anything

  • @showmetoyourdealer well thank you for the compliment. I would blame my lack of fame on motivation and work hours. But hey, tell anyone you know who is looking for help with after effects or any production question really to hit me up, I'm here to help. Also I'm going to try to make 1 tutorial a month and so far I'm 2 for 2 on that goal.

  • @SweetCrack187 I'm glad you liked it. The "You Suck At Photoshop" guy is way hilarious. Not sure if I've got it in me to be that funny but I'll see what I can do.

  • absolutely incredible, thanks man.

  • "Aw man, it's like I'm birthing the universe." rofl

Wonderful and very informative video! Thanks!

  • @CaptainFriedaTimber I'm glad you like it. If you've got any suggestions for improvement let me know, I'm recording a new one this weekend for making futuristic interface vfx so any feedback on how I can improve the tutorials would be much appreciated.

  • @ECAbrams I would suggest maybe making a little more of a point where you go to change things, such as where on the menus you are going. Other than that, I haven't gotten any other ideas. You are a pleasant and fun person to listen too and defiantly know your stuff. ^^
