@DRAYPRESCOTT58 that was customable in the 70s in all worldwide circuits : think at your germany and hot criminal idiots they looked f.i. at Nurburgring when they left Lauda burning in flames and an Italian driver had to stop his car, work with the estinguisher and carry Lauda off bursting car in place of retarded marshals who were too scared to rescue the austrian .....
You're 50 aged, you're supposed to remember all that .....;-) !!!
I remember that Lauda crashed in curve at the old "Nordschleife". In this curve were no marshalls located directly, because of the rocks at this location.
All drivers had to block their cars because they could not pass this place. It is no question that all who could did help him out of his car. Otherwise he would have died in his Ferrari.
So what do you remember ?
Just read a bit in wikipedia about Strietzel Stuck´s part in this situation...
@Trulyloyale It was Arturo Merzario plus Brett Lunger, Harald Ertl and Guy Edwards that got Lauda out. It wasn't that tthe marshalls were scared either its just there wasn't any around at Bergwerk.
@DRAYPRESCOTT58 1st aid in this situation does actually reccomend removing the helmet since the chance of worsening a neck injury are miniscule compared to the risk of death from a blocked airway.
@DRAYPRESCOTT58 You are working off 2011 safety standards and medical practice. In 1974 the idea was to get him out of harms way. btw the guy in the shorts was possibly a marshall, all the guys in the red shirts were. Its not like today where you have onsite marshalls in full fire suits
Jeez Hope he didn't injure his back or neck in the crash those guys would paralyse the poor bloke. Total bloody waste of space those guys, Where were the flag marshals in all this? What a load of bollocks
@XxCedDragoNxX I guess sometimes one has to laugh even in the worst moments! I'm so sorry, but your comment made me laugh and I thank you for that. I feel really sorry for this guy and I'm so happy he's still alive, but I couldn't help laughing!
@Redline748 as said in the title , safety was so different from today and in 1974 no circuit used slow down flags or other safety tools ....!! Just look at the USA : they're probably the most arrear country in the world in motor racing , even today they have as same safety as 40 years ago , they're stuck in the 1960s .....!! ;-)

Dazzler59 3 months ago
@Dazzler59 :
The removing of the helmet should not be done without a doctor.
Of course a helmet can be removed but not like they did it.
There should have been trained persons at the circuit, not such dilettants.
You can free a blocked airway even without removing the helmet.
