  • Thank you for this video. It means so much.

  • (continued)

we will work, and we will win . . .

all the while trying to take some enjoyment from the poignancy of being 100% right, and being for a few more years, or perhaps a few more months, in the minority.

For people who love politics, being in the 49% minority is an IRRITATING but exciting place to be.

A little while after a big victory is a nice time in life, but, with a little foresight, a little while before a big victory is a hundred times cooler.

  • Some politicians are very, very timid. (Some. We shouldn't stereotype.)

And gay marriage was a wedge issue deliberately designed to hurt Democratic candidates.

But in the long run, harassment by the Republican Party of gay men and lesbians who marry will end.

We have the satisfaction of knowing we're right. Being on the side of Love is always right.

With love, with a sense of humor, and with compassion toward stupid people who, in truth, didn't "choose" to be stupid . . .

  • I have examined the rational arguments of gays and lesbians and the emotional arguments, and I have examined the "rational" arguments and the "emotional" arguments of those who "oppose" homosexuality.

And guess what. The gays and lesbians won.

In fact, I would say the homophobic arguments are completely lacking in content, much less merit and amount to bigotry and little else.

Homophobia hurts people. That's why homophobia is un-Christian and immoral.

  • Oh god gays !!!! :((

  • I'm not against gay rights or relationships. But gay marriage just ain't right brothers and sisters. Marriage is a religious thing, and homosexuality and religion don't go together, no offense. I think the term "civil union" is just fine, I don't get the problem. In fact, "civil union" is what EVERYONE should be recognized as, while the church can call it marriage. Good day

  • I think you need to educate yourself a little more about this issue before you make comments that insult yourself. If you took the time to know gay couples who have been together, you would recognize you ARE against gay rights. Put down the cross you hide behind and live in the real world BROTHER! "Marriage" is a right denied a minority. Semantics are an excuse to deny rights to ALL citizens.

  • I think I've educated myself on this issue just enough. Marriage for thousands of years has been between man and woman, and I don't see why all the sudden in year 2010 that should be changed. I clearly said I recognize relationships, and people should be allowed to enter unions, that's none of my business, and I encourage it. BUT MY ARGUMENT IS AGAINST THE NAME "MARRIAGE."

  • @MrDetwaa Oh yes, because "Separate but Equal" will work THIS time, right?

  • YES!!!!!!!!

  • Actually, marriage for thousands of years has been plural, has been with minors, has been a property agreement. Marriage has changed and evolved many times since the concept became common. Black/Asian people used to be barred from marrying, a woman who married an Asian man could lose her citizenship. We have come a long way. The word Marriage has been in flux since it's inception, you just want to deny us the social benefits of this word for selfish reasons or beliefs.

  • Marriage has social recognition that civil unions do not, a civil union doesn't bring a family together, it doesn't sound like any reason to celebrate, it doesn't sound like what it actually should be, the joining of two people who want to make a life for themselves. Civil Unions, Domestic Partnerships, Designated Beneficiaries.. they will never have the social recognition or respect that marriage has attached to it. This shouldn't be about a word, it should be about equality.

  • again you're not understanding my point. I'm saying the government should have nothing to do with marriage, marriage is a church and family issue. The government should just recognize all forms as CIVIL UNIONS. Gay people can go find a church to MARRY them and a family to celebrate it with as you say. The government won't stand in the way.

  • The government shouldn't be in the relationship business, but since they already are, they should not and can not take that away from certain people. Churches validating relationships as marriage? What would Atheists have to do to get married then? Violate their own personal morals and go to a place of worship they don't believe in? It's better that the state regulates this than a church, at least the state doesn't say you'll go to hell for being with someone the bible doesn't favor.

  • MrDetwaa,

I understand your point, but it's not a solution.

    Marriage is all three.

    1. It is an intensely private relationship that no one outside the relationship can understand.

    2. It is ALSO a religious sacrament, for some. Some Christians enthusiastically endorse gay marriage. Embarrassingly, some still oppose it. Some also still oppose interracial marriage.

  • (continued)

    3. It is ALSO a universal phenomenon that has had a special place in law throughout history. The rights of a spouse are written into law because trusting newlyweds to write contracts to handle the dissolution of marriage would be utterly moronic.

And The Law's understanding of marriage has improved right along with The Church's understanding of it.

We no longer treat women as property.

    There is progress sometimes.

    And thank God.

[I should say, the Civil Union movement is sincere and I appreciate the good intentions of it and everyone has the right, if they want to to be in a Civil Union.

    But the larger issue is,

Everyone Has The Right To Get Married.]

  • 2:05 AMEN!!!

  • Mexico City legalized gay marriage today. Before New York City where our fight first started 40 years ago.

  • the time for marriage Equality is now!

the fight is not over. keep maching on

    in 2010

  • Equality TODAY!

  • I am furious that small minded people seem to run everything. Where is Obama when you need him? What a big let down he has been. What happened to getting rid of don't ask/don't tell? Someday this country will actually provide the equal protection to ALL that the U.S. Constitution guarantees.

  • I'm ready to march. And work my ass off for equality.

  • I was ashamed to be a New Yorker on that day, your video gives me hope. Thank you.
