All firefighters are heroes in my book, risking their lives for strangers and their property. Many have lost their lives in fires such as this one. Hats off to the lads!
thank you for this video.I joined in 79 Bucks and my heart can still feel the exciting chaos of those days. Cold hands and feet.Damping down and turning over at 3 in morning.Great to see confused officer and a piss taking fireman!we still have them of course, but there bit warmer these days!
Ah, those were the days, Yellow leggings, One would always know you were to close by the smell of melting plastic !!.
Yes and turning the helmets around wasn't in the Firefighting Manual, but the old sweats knew their stuff !! The first of the new style tunics on show to, Those were the days we looked like Firefighters.
We used to turn our helmets around for a good reason. The helmet could then be tilted forward and the peak would sheild your face from the intense heat. Not in the Firemans manual but we often did it all the same. To the casual observer it loked as though we got dressed in the dark!
LOL at 2.20 that guy on the hose has his helmet on backwards. Great Vid, This is probably around '91 around the time most brigades got rid of the Wool tunics and PVC leggins.
Nice to hear the Perkins engines on the appliances, they have a very distintive tone.I like Time Is Tight too! I thought it might have been slightly earlier than 1989/90,then I realised that's 17 to 18 years ago.I must be getting old!
Great video again, as a firefighter in in west sussex for the last 4 years its great to see how the job used to be done. This would have been about the time my dad joined west sussex too.
They are all heroes to me, my dad in particular can be see at 4:16. Very proud to be the daughter of an ex fire officer

What a super film. Health & Safety and hook ladders would go down well today NOT. Really enjoyed watching that.

Hmm - the old black single legs were a bugger too, you nearly always ended up with a wet arse! Kits come on a long way since then!

Those helmets were no good because they had no visors. Although they are very strong. Thanks for telling me that, I didn't know that
