  • Brilliant!

  • So "Village People" ! I am French, and I love !!!!!!!!!! Fantastic : we never dare to do such things in Paris. Alas !......

  • I remember doing this musical in jr. high....makes me laugh!

  • To those who say that this is not what G&S intended, remember why they made the Mikado in the first place - the entertain and "take the piss" out of society. I am certain it is understood that a lot has changed since the 1800's, therefore I am sure they would understand modernisation of their works, so long as people can be educated about and enjoy them. Afterall, they revolutionised/scandalised the Opera world with their works first with the hidden jibes at society

  • Dear kazzles79, it is in fact an operreta, not a musical. They've actually added a few lines for comedic effect, and changed an entire role (or augmented it I should say) , which are funny, but this particular production I highly doubt is near what Gilbert & Sullivan intended. Especially in terms of vocal quality, which is quite bad. But all that aside, it IS good and entertaining.

  • I am sorry I have done this show and it is an opera/operette NOT a broadway musical!!!

The jokes are funny but the choregraphy is HORRIBLE and so is the singing!!!

  • @Operaman41 clearly you don't understand Simon Broadway then! It's supposed to be this way! Personally I think the singing is fantastic! its a different version of Mikado. It was done as a trilogy congrats Simon Gallagher for a brilliant job!!! :)

  • @kazzles79 No I do not understand that is true & clear but I am sorry as a singer (classically trained) I disagree with you their singing is only a "pop" sound not what G&S would have wanted. Like I said I have done this show and I prefer the more tradional sound and production.

But Thank You for voicing you comment just like I did mine.

  • lol im in a mikado play. im chorus lol

  • this is ridiculous

  • the essgee web site sells the dvds of this production and is legit.

  • Nothing like as funny as the original! Lumpen sit com and ridiculous innuendos are shown up when the immaculate literary skills of Gilbert are allowed to breathe. Talk about a turkey chasing a swan!

  • Has this production been made available on commercial DVD?

    Arrow

  • Any word on this? I would love to see the whole production.

  • If you check the Esgee website, it looks like they have a DVD for sale, but it has to be what the company is selling itself. I have yet to see a commercial. DVD, but hope to find one.

    Arrow

  • Just so funny!

  • "Now then,we've had a capital Runch and we're quite Leady"

Haha ! Im playing as Mikado .. and school play is on the 25th April..

    Wish me luck =D

  • So am I,I'm playing as Pooh-Bear.XDXDXD

  • dude , we're in the same school and doing the play together -.-

    haha

  • This is the funniest version I have ever seen. Obviously done in the humor intended by Gilbert and Sullivan to start with..

  • Love those three little maids singing the part of Pitti Sing.

  • Well.

The Mikado is certainly one of my favorites now!!

    That was so good!

  • well best musical ever apart from the pahntom of the opera!!! im in transition yr and we did the mikado lst wk. cnt blieve its over:( i was the mikado!!!! it was such a gud rolde to play reallly was had a ball !!

  • We did The Mikado and I liked ours better...

  • lol im in ty and im in the mikado its on in two weeks!

  • This is a very nice musical. I am doing it through school right now and have come to appriciate it very much.

  • This presentation was tons of fun and I like lots of the choices they made. Not all of the performances were great but enough were that I really enjoyed it. Thanks much for posting.

  • It's different. The Mikado (David Gould?) has a thrilling voice, but all this failed 'humour', the Japanese accent parody, etc. are wasted. Koko's performance is over the top. He's not funny, merely silly, and there IS a difference. The updated lyrics aren't bad--quite in keeping with G&S's 'contemporary' satire, but the 'acting' only underscores the too broad quality of the production. It's operetta, not music hall. A souffle, not a billious hamburger. I've seen better.

  • A travesty.

  • Im doin the mikado i luv it :D

  • That's a very unique interpretation!

  • that was good
