  • what happened to your fall of richmond clip you had on here ? that was awesome I am trying to learn that song came looking for it and it was gone ?

  • @fralin1966 Hey there... I guess I took that one off... I cleaned up my youtube channel a while back and decided to put up newer versions when I can... sorry about that... I will try to get another one up before too long. Peggy

  • Dwight definetly shows in your playing. Sweet!

  • The left hand fingering I have the A part down pretty good its the B part where the hammer ons come into play that i'm having trouble I would encourage you to post more videos I enjoy them very much .You have been a great help in my playing Thank you

  • is there a chance you could upload a video showing the right hand when playing the b part I listen to your video and try and dissect the fingering in the b part but its difficult with your hand moving so fast It is the best version period

  • @fralin1966 I'm unclear whether you meant a close up of the noting hand or the thumping hand. For the past couple of years I haven't had much chance to get any new stuff up on youtube, but I do need to try to get back to it again, so maybe a close-up Kitchen Girl will be a motivator for me to try to find the time to get back to it.

  • I figured it out you are tuned sharp I started out with a true d sharp and can play along now

  • @fralin1966 Hi, sorry, I tried to answer the other question and somehow it didn't end up showing on the page.. but I guess you did figure it out afterall. I am tuned gDGBD, although Kitchen Girl is modal (I think Mixolydian) but plays well out of standard G tuning. I tune back and forth so much it could be I ended up tuned sharp...

  • are you in g modal?

  • love it very nice driving beat

  • Those dogs crack me up!

  • God that's SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Keep the Kitchen Girls coming. It's one of my favorites.

  • I knew there was something different about Dwights' playing besides just the tempo, but didn't know what. I think I notice you tapping on the head as if you were simultaneously playing the drum. skood.

  • For me, the head basically gets in the way of my right hand as it hits downward... as my index nail hits the string, the other knuckles make contact with the head, causing a thump.

  • Great job Peggy. Nice tempo.

  • YES! I did find that site and ordered today although it does cost $11 postage to england! It will take 6 days to arrive! I cant wait!!!!!! In the meantime just be aware that i am studying your right hand and still wondering how you can contact the skin with your thumb AND contact the skin with your fingers AND not have the bridge get in the way or contact the 5th string unavoidably>. Maybe it will all come clear when i get the dvd!

  • Yes, I think Just Rhythm will explain all of it very thoroughly. Dwight's usual rhythm is more "Boom-a-Lack-a," rather than the typical, "Bum-Ditty". The right hand fingers and thumb hold still while the forearm flips the hand so that the index nail hits the (some or all of) 4 strings, then flips back & thumb snags the 5th, flips and snaps index

against the 4 strings hard & the knuckles inadvertently rap the head, flips again and the thumb snags the 5th again = 1 Boom-a-lack-a. Make sense?

  • And the site wont accept orders! bum!

  • Did you try ordering from the Morningstar Folk Arts site?

  • That is so amazing! I was just watching all those splendid videos of yours when your reply arrived!I am in england so it is 3.20pm on saturday! I will order the dvd today and do exactly as you suggest! That right hand is fabulous! Thankyou so much for replying! Bill

  • i am just into clawhammer and love your easy style! I cant get to dwight as you can for personal tuition1 How can i pick up that lovely style? are there any videos?

  • The one DVD that helped me more than anything else was Diller's Just Rhythm, if you could order that from his website, watch it HUNDREDS of times, & then practice the right hand rhythm only with CDs of fiddle music, as Diller suggests, & finally get to the point where you can begin dropping left hand notes into that rhythm without disturbing it... that was what I've done, and it took me about 1 2/2 years to get to where I could play tunes something like I wanted. Just Rhythm is essential!!!

  • Hello. I love your playing. Through your videos I have discovered Dwight Diller. I've been playing for about a year now. I have a few videos of my playing out there. Thank you for posting. I'll continue to watch and learn.

  • Thanks! I had a look at your videos and you sound awesome, especially for ONE YEAR!!!!

The first time I heard Dwight's playing as a small sample of a piece on the net, it stopped me in my tracks for the other things I'd been doing on banjo...I just had to follow my own heart, and it pointed that way. There are tons of good banjo players around, but Diller's sound hit me the hardest & I just can't do anything else now...my Kitchen Girl is ever-evolving, LOL, time to post another one, I guess!

  • Great job.

  • J'adore, super rythme !

  • It is so great to hear how some of the note that you omit from the way you played it before help to make the song more interesting. I enjoy listening to your progress, it is helping me think about playing the tunes with more heart. Too bad your dog is so protective. Cheers
