  • Knocks the pants off all the crap they call music these days. Sounds just as sweet as it did all those years ago. Geez, where did the years go?

  • I remember watching this guy back in 1959 on the Dick Clark show . Today he looks just like my piss doctor..

  • Great song love early american music

    Thanks

BRING BACK THESE OLD SONGS!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING!!!!!!

  • @tildakovach

Let us please take note of the select few young people who do truly appreciate old style songs such as this; and let's not fail to appreciate and encourage them.

  • That was amazing!!!!! I love this song it is in my top 5. Does anyone know if they are still around? I would love to see them.

    Ginger

  • @MsGinger92 There is a video of them live in concert Feb. 5th, 2011.

  • @cmfugate1 Really?!?! I will have to go see them

  • Fleetwoods just preformed in Schenectady and they were great. We enjoyed all the acts from the fab 50s and 60s.

  • I have read the comments below... and I have come to the conclusion after listening with great pleasure to both the 50's version and this version, that these guys still sound fantastic! I have the older version on a CD, and just took a doubtful chance listen to this version, and was PLEASANTLY surprised. They have lost NOTHING over the years... thanks for posting, mrironsides!

  • listen to version from the 50's

  • they lost it

    the guys voice is terrible

  • They've lost absolutely nothing in 50 years! Amazing!

  • whose darlene?... and why should she come softly? O_o

  • @zergyzerg it's darling

  • @cruzzo260 its a joke.

  • A love song written by a couple of suburban high school kids and it still sounds great sung by adults. Cool

  • Eliza Doolittle should be proud!

  • Makes my heart ache. . . smiling and crying simultaneously, tears dropping on my keyboard while I sing along and remember. . .

  • Why cant the music now adays be something like this. Love this ERA. I was born in 66 but wish I could have gone thru the 50s with music like this.

  • i want call you baby, i love you , always nena

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Lovely job, kids.

  • How good is that!!!

  • They still got it! Beauitful harmonies.

  • 1950's America was at its peak. Best music, best educated, strongest economy, etc. This was no only the end of a fabulous era but now it is the end of America as I knew it.

  • Good job ! I've always enjoyed the singing of The Fleetwoods.

  • amazing voice, ang gara!

  • They still sound great!

  • Foundation Tune

  • Beautiful sing and video!

    Thumbs up

  • WE NEED MUSIC LIKE THIS NOW

  • @presiosadanny hell yeah!

  • GREAT. HOW WILL YOU SOUND WHEN YOUR 70 PLUSS ??????

  • So beautiful. They don't make music like this now days

IDIOTA.

  • @raponte1955 SE NOTA QUE VOS NUNCA HAS TENIDO HAMBRE !! BURGUES!!!

  • This song moves me ! I love the way they sing together.

  • I had actually never heard this song before I heard it on the Mafia II game soundtrack and had to google it! It is a great song with terrific harmony that you just cant find much in todays music!

  • I want, want you to know, I love, I love your upload sooo !!!!

Great Oldie !! Thank you for sharing. All Thumbs Up !!! :))

  • @Banderuola66 I agree...this was a dear song of mine when I was a child in the 60's. Just a hint...look up "Freddie and the Dreamers". Try "You were made for me" and "I'm Telling You Now".

    All my best.

  • @ravenofno This was a song of the late 1950's, The others you mention though cutesy and innocent were part of the Brittish invasion sometime later and had their own innocents , It does not seem like you are partial to a musical style as much as an age you can never be again!

  • @rakeuiff now that you have totally misconstruded my statement, they still don'tmakem like this any more. I am 67 years old and happen tp love the doo Wop and true Rock & Roll era from the mid 50's to the mid 60's. Just likepeople much older than me stiil the toe big band era and etc. This crap they make today with the heavy metal and the screaming to a point where you can't even understand what they saysing, just plain stinks, This is my opinion and you should respect it just I will yours.

  • @rakeuiff And you may be right. It is easy to romanticize an era or an age....but, I still like the music and, mixed with a little nostalgia, it makes me feel good. That is what is important. Take care.

  • This is actually sort of depressing to me. Shows the slow aging of the good, and when they are gone, what will we have left?

  • @slayerrules114 Feel the same way. Just watched their performance from 1959.....still have the 45.

  • @slayerrules114 Agree. Sad, but beautiful.

  • @slayerrules114 SHIT LIKE WE HAVE NOW

  • i cant believe they still sound the same,... true talent

  • How very precious! See, one of the perks of getting older is that you just don't have to be self-conscience, you can just be yourself and be happy. Now, compare this one to when they were "just babies." He was so self-conscience and miserable, couldn't even look up at the camera till half-way through the song. Thanks for posting!

  • i long for the day when Tori comes softly to me.

    I love you, Tori.

  • I LOVE THE FLEETWOODS although they're allready old

  • is either of the girls here in the PBS special Barbara Ellis?

  • @finnzie1 The lady to Gary's right.

  • thanks

  • still got it!

  • classic!!!!

  • classic!!!!

  • Gary Troxel's voice still rocks. His voice is timeless.

  • i love it-they sing so well

  • Ohhh Man! ....the Original never die. Pure American classic...I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gretchen isnt going to sing with them again. Gretchen founded them and wouldnt you be mad if some one stole your thunder? She's a nice lady so stop talking crap. I know her in real life and she doesnt have a single negative thing to say.

  • Oh my goodness..wonderful <3

  • I too think they look better than they did long ago. The girls, of course, are not the originals. But they are really talented. Classy grandparents.

  • Dear lord, this is just too nice.=]

  • Damn, they all look BETTER than that did decades ago. =D

  • Yes, I know...that is why I said "symbolically" singing to Gretchen, it is referring to the way she goes around taking all the credit for the Fleetwoods success. I should have added Symbolically singing to Barbara. No big deal either way, if I had to choose which group to pay to see, it would be Gary's group.

  • Perfect........You guys sound great...what a treasure...

  • this may all be in my head but when Gary looks to his left and sings "i want......i love you so" he is singing to Barbra but when he is symbolically singing to Gretchen (his right) he sings that he has waited so long. is there a message there? Love the Fleetwoods, thanx for posting.

  • @kawliga33 I don't believe Barbra or Gretchen are singing in this video.

  • My parent's weren't even born when this song came out and I love it to death

  • This is what silk sounds like!

  • @AMSproductions1134 i can read u man

  • Gretchen and Barbara used to be the same height, and Gary was taller than both of them...

  • Damn, God bles u guys, great memories, im 51 years old man from Piedras Negras, Coahuila México, and i love this song, love to c this video, remember u got a fan here in México.

  • I cried when I heard and saw this video! Look at them! They aged but so did I! If only they know I've searched for their songs in record shops all these years!! I lost all my collection when I went abroad. Their songs used to lull me to sleep...every night!!!

  • pretty ladies

  • quite depressing to be honest, watch the original, then watch this...

  • @TheRealShitBitch Well if you had used your voice to make a living, this can be the result. When you age the voice loses it's control and power. However for 50 yrs later I think this man sounds wonderful. At least he can say HE WAS can you? I can't.

  • @TheRealShitBitch You live up to your name. You left out cunt, though.

  • @dietrite123 calm down.. lol

  • ...give the producers some credit. This tune is mixed to perfection. Every note Gary Troxel sings is clear as a bell...and the girls' harmonies are tight and near perfect pitch. This was an amazing show.

  • awesome!!!

  • aww i love this song<333

  • Were these the three original members?

  • This is so fabulous......thanks for putting on!

  • Thanks for posting. They are a real class act..

  • To those of we whom grew up in this era . . . nothing but memories of our first love.

  • When I was a kid I wanted to look just like him....now I DO !! :)

  • @drguffey haha really ??

  • feeling it fifty years later...

  • OMGosh!!! I am in love with the lady on the left...She is sexy!!!

  • Gary's voice is still great; he sings in the same key as 50 years ago. His is true God-given talent. As someone said, no strain, no fuss. He is a good example of someone who is very good at something making it look easy. These girls are as capable of tight harmonies as the original girls were. Very very good.

  • OH WOW...they are still just as amazing. i would love to be there.

  • Do you beleive that's REALLY Gary Troxell up there?

  • Great song! Music from this era was the best!

  • Love the original version.....But must agree with the poster who said this sounds more sincere.

  • Just love this song and not bad of a performance 50 years on after the hit.

  • They're Wonderful.

  • he sounds great .man i know you people have heard this before but im 47 and yes i was born way to late.i love doowop and so do my kid's

  • Better than the original. Much more sincere and romantic after a lifetime of attachment.

  • Were these also the original female singers too? If so , the've hardly aged.

  • This is excellent.

    Frank

  • Thanks for sharing this rare treat!

  • It's only my opinion but this shows that you can replace Gretchen and Barbara but you can't replace Gary. Thank you Fleetwoods, maybe Gretchen and Gary will sing together sometime.

  • @kawliga33 Are you sure? According to the Fleetwoods web site:

"Female Lead Vocalist, Arranger and BMI Million Airs Songwriter, Gretchen Christopher has remained the one constant performer of the trio."

"Of the Originals, Barbara Ellis retired in 1974,

Gary Troxel gave his written resignation in 1983

and only Gretchen Christopher is authorized to carry on the name

"The Fleetwoods" per their legal Agreement.

She has trained Replacements on both coasts"

    It appears only Gretchen remains.

  • @tbcass I don't understand your comment, my point is that without Gary they may be called the Fleetwoods, but Gary was the soul of the group. His trio of Gary plus two girls are better than todays Fleetwoods by Gretchen. What needs to happen is that Gretchen swallow her pride and everyone get back together for their fans.

  • @kawliga33 Wow, I posted a response 6 months ago. Looking back I believe my response was to someone who said Gary was still with the group or something like that but I mistakenly responded to you.

  • @kawliga33 . I agree. Gretchen needs to realize that as a team, they put out great music. The Fleetwoods were great, because each individual member contributed to the whole. Life is too short to be bickering who is no.1, running the show etc.

  • they are as good as ever

  • They look and sound great! What a wonderful thing these concerts are! I'm too 'young' to identify with this from my teen years, but I just love the nostalgia!!

  • Oh my gawd! I kissed my first girl to that song way back when. Boy, does that bring back some memories.

  • True, when I was young, grandmothers didn't look that good.

  • Oh God!!! This is so incredible!!! Gary sounds great!!! The women accompanying him can not only sing, they are hottt, hottt, hottt!!!

  • Gary sounds as good as he did back in

'59. Time goes by too fast. This is such a sweet reminder of the way it was.

  • Must have a time machine they sound just as good as they did in th 50/60s

  • More beautiful than they ever were. Hey, who needs hair?

  • Okay. They sound the same then as on the original recording. That is so very nice. Thank you for posting this here. :)

  • They don't sing them like this anymore. Can you believe you can actuallly hear the words!

  • @kennbix How old are you people that you can't hear anything but do doobi dom do dom bi doobi dom, Like songs like Smoke Gets in Your Eyes was from your generation ,it wasn't it was written in 1937, many newer and this is ancient can be heard very easily they are done in English you know, music was found to be a joyous uniting thing , stop sounding like someone older than me for gods sake and try and enjoy, the music did not really die in 1959.you know!

  • @rakeuiff Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by the Platters is one of the greatest all time songs that I just love. Not the 1937 version but the Doo Wop Rock N Roll era. I also love country music from years ago, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Little Jimmy Dickens etc. Todays country is not real country & I don't listen to it and that again is up to me and no one else. Just like whatever you listen too is your business and no one else's. I can't stand opera, others love it. I express my opinion & always will.

  • Gorgeous. Thank you!

  • I agree with you Sansankudo. Little romance. Check out their earlier version. It was in American Graffitti. The song is from 1959.

  • Great performance, I would love to see them live.

  • Comment removed

  • lol..as the brothas say in the hood..."dat boi good!!"

  • Je cherche la version française. titre? "Tout doucement" ?interprète ?

Merci si vous pouvez me donner des renseignements.

  • It is just me,or songs are these days too sexual and not as romantic like this one?

  • @sansankudo

its just you... back then was great, today is also great

    great song too! beautiful performance

  • @hello2015 Thanks! sanity!

  • So smooth and awesomely incredible.

  • I wish that Gary, Barbra, and Gretchen would get back and tour the Country. I'd love to see them. While I'm wishing how about the Statler Bros making another fairwell tour? I'd drive a thousand miles to see either show.

  • So would I from Australia...I just love them

  • You have good taste, you might also like "26 miles" by the Four Preps. :) Gretchen has a group that calls themselves the Fleetwoods but without Gary it's just a wantabe.

  • @kawliga33 and they sound horrible too!

  • they do shows...have one coming up in Cerrito CA in June, I think.

  • Wow! When you're a good artist, that's for youre entire life!

  • still sounding good

  • beautiful and classy in every way. I love them.

  • Another one to check out is Ed Ames' "My Cup Runneth Over"..There is a version on here that was recorded a year or 2 ago when he was 80...It'll STILL send chills up 'n' down yer spine !

  • wow they still sing good.

  • I saw Gary live at a songwriters' seminar in 1984 in LA. He's the best!

  • I agree. Gary Troxel has one of the best voices ever. Someone who is good at something makes it look (and sound) easy - and he does. True God-given talent. The girls are not the originals, but they are beautiful and talented.

  • That was about 50 years after the original recording. Even with the ravages time puts on someone's voice, Gary Troxel still has to be one of the smoothest voices I've ever heard. No straining the voice, no mess, no fuss. Pure class.

  • You are right. He makes it look and sound easy. A fabulous talent.

  • @actionsub According to The Fleetwoods web site only founder Gretchen Christopher remains. Look it up yourself.

"Of the Originals, Barbara Ellis retired in 1974,

Gary Troxel gave his written resignation in 1983

and only Gretchen Christopher is authorized to carry on the name"

  • @actionsub I asked him to autograph a copy of a record I had, what a nice guy. He treated me like I was a friend.

  • @actionsub You are so right; his voice just glided in his youth, and it still had something left of that quality when they did this broadcast. The Fleetwoods were special, they were like butter...

  • @actionsub

    Pure magic!

  • Gary Toxel stil sounds great!!! are these the original girl singers?

  • Awesome!

  • All you guys seem to be just beautiful people, all kind and positive comments. My name is Pete'Kiwi'Keegan and I had a band and was on BBCTV in 1957. I am the same age as Gary, a it more hair and I am still performing too. The Fleetwoods were a class act. Music can save our planet! Love to you all! Pete

  • Very beautiful. So, so, so beautiful I don't even have words for it. He did the song like he did many years ago. This song will live forever, thanks to the magic that is real music.

  • There is simply nothing that can touch this perfect marriage of song and voices. Even the mild distortion on the original recording adds an intensity and importance to the sound. Dump me on a deserted island and give me this one song.

  • This sweet song sounds just as warm & beautiful as it did when it was # 1 on the charts 50 years ago. I loved it then,I love it today.

Goes to show how a simple melody with great lead vocals & harmony captured the soft part of all of us.

    Thanks for posting.

  • this is one of the first ever songs that i knew of r&r, im 37, im from mexico, but all my family is music-holic, and dance-holic too, i heard it when i was 9 iand i still love it, thanks for the memories!!!!!!!!

  • Still afraid to look at the camera, Gary? This is so sweet.

  • Several years ago I auditioned to be Gretchen's "Gary," but couldn't sing enough like him. She eventually settled on a tall fellow who did a good job, but was no Gary (but who is?) (apart from Gary!). Gary really had a nice ability to sing so softly and so "ON." Their collective musical taste was excellent, and their hits are unparalleled. They went to high school sixty miles south of me. Love their music!

    Seattle Guy

  • Another great thing about this exceedingly original song is the way Gary sings the lead vocal WHILE ALSO adding "doobedoos" between phrases It's a feat of breath control, since there's very little time to scoop up a breath! I'm not sure if any other group features something like that. Indeed, they had a magical chemistry, which, as usual, is almost impossible to sustain more than a few years. The profit aspect of the music industry has broken up many a fine group.

  • You guys have summed it up perfectly. A class act, magical musical chemistry, true talent.

  • Gary is the REAL deal. Still sounds great after all these years since he recorded. Does anybody know anything about the ladies?? Surely not the original Fleetwoods, look too young.

  • The girls are not the originals. Their names are Bonnie Hannukaine and Cheryl Huggins. Gary's vocal ability is a true God-given talent.

  • I don't thin they look young..look about the same age as Gary. Also the lady on the left is way taller than the original girl, Except for losing his hair Gary looks and sound great!

  • I notice all the girls back then and now women now moved a certain way, A slow movement back and forth. Kathy Young had the same moves. Anyone. Anyway I think it is classy... Oh and if you (the Fleetwoods) reads this know how much happiess and plasure you bring your audience. You guys are great.

  • Gary is now almost 70 and he is still one of the most talented and classiest vocalists around. I agree, keep the music coming Gary.

  • Gary keep tht beautiful music coming...

  • ist 45 i ever bought!!

  • If you look at most of the 50s groups few have an original member. Some times they do have one. I'd rather listen to the old recording then go to some of these concerts. Even PBS showcases false groups.
