I served in Vietnam in 1968 and smoked pot. I smoked it, not to relieve me of boredom and pain, but because of its benefits, like; enjoyed music more, had social get togethers more often, grew spiritually from it, and it just helped many of us to have a good time, at times. A group of us vets sitting around talking about Vietnam one night at deer camp. I asked what did you each Like about Nam. One guy said the drugs , one said pussy, he was cherry when he left, one said how beautiful the mountians were. Everyone just looked and nodded, not another word was spoken.
To live in constant fear worried that your platoon might be bombed or napalmed, worrying that while you slept the enemy would sneak in and kill you that you would never make it home. That you were fighting a war you wanted no part of, that would drive a man to insanity. Marijuana and heroin did help them cope with it but of the two marijuana is obviously far less harmful, though smoking it still is damaging to an extent. As for paranoia, it could have made them more aware of things around them.
My late husband was a LRRP. He told me he never did drugs in Vietnam because he had to be ready to go at any time and if any of them did herion or pot it would jepordize the whole team!!!! But when he came back he became a addict!

Idiots who say pot smoking is good for you, have some kind of mental disconnect that pot smoking isn't smoking. Smoking is bad for you, period, end of story. Anyone with any common sense should know inhaling lots of hot smoke containing toxins and debris from a bunch of burning weeds is not good for your lungs. People in burning buildings die from smoke inhalation. I've never ever met a pothead though that was particularly smart.

@shiroisan87 thats the truth. I started smoking cannabis in the Marine Corps for the stress release. I think it is a shame that troops can't enjoy cannabis off duty. I eventually got a bad conduct discharge for it. I was a good Marine too, now I just feel kinda broken. Plus the military is full of shit half the time. I miss the Corps, but only because I find civilians so full of shit.

People spend too much time and money worrying about pot instead of focusing on bigger issues and drugs that are actually dangerous, we could all relax more if it was legal, by both smoking it and knowing tax dollars are being spent on things that will make a posotive difference to the community, prohibiting hemp is not one of those things.
