  • Our computer science departments in California universities are being RUINED by java. They really should just get rid of this dumb f ucking language which is overly complex and USELESS. It's no secret that it's been in decline due to it's uselessness and unproductivity. Sun has contributed more harm to society than good. Forget the fu cking skiing, guitar playing, site seeing bullshit in this vid. Sun is f ucking useless.

  • Sun is f ucking dead. Oracle bought out this piece of shit company and will run it into the ground. A Recent Oracle vice president has stated the following: "We need to get the younger generation interested and excited [about Java] just like I was... I would like to see people with piercings doing Java programming," -Jeet Kaul Vice President of client software at Oracle. This sounds a lot like the people who wanted schools to teach f uckign cobol at one point in time.

  • @thedeadbaby

not matter what you are learning in school, in a few years, five to ten, some one from the younger generation, in the next cycle of computer technologies, is going to sing the same song your singing now. What goes around, comes around. I have heard it all before, Pascal, C, C++, Java, Python, Flash, HTML, PHP, Perl, Web 2.0, HTML 5, around and around we go. My motto, whatever technology I can make the most money from and get travel expenses to teach, is the best technology.

  • 1. If you see a snake, kill it.

    2. Don't play with dead snakes.

    3. All opportunities start looking like snakes.

So... If you see an opportunity kill it quickly and never speak of it again.

Wow, am I the only one, or is this a stupid analogy?

  • OK, I admit there was beer at the events when Jim Barksdale told us the 3 rules of snakes, and at the time it made sense. However, I think the 1st rule is for technical people, the 3rd rule is for marketing.

  • There was an internal memo that was leaked to the web from SUN. The basic gist of the message was:

"We should not use J2ee for any web development projects. Let's use Python instead guys."

  • And you just made it up, right? I agree that Java was overhyped and Sun was dead about 15 years ago. But nobody as Sun would use Python for web projects.

  • Yes. He probably made up this (confirmed) memo that was all over slashdot and everywhere else on the internet in 2003. Yea. He could make all that up. He can make up a fictional employee, Julian S. Taylor, who in fact worked at Sun and has a linkedin profile and wrote the memo. yea. it was all made up. Please prove this guy wrong man.

  • Sun is full of shit. They are ruining our educational system with JAVA curriculum. I wish all sun technologies to disappear from the face of this planet. Java and J2EE are the most overhyped bullshit technologies of this century.

  • LOL. Of course Java sucks that's why its installed on 2 billion devices worldwide and is the most popular programming platform of all time

  • sun is on life support because the best people left

see youtube why I will not buy sun microsystems products

  • i use Netscape in my ubuntu it's cool but it sucks that aol is leting it go i mean if some one got it to the open source people i know alot of people out there like my self that will work on it

  • Netscape you're has nothing in common with Netscape mentioned in this ad.

  • Having worked both at Netscape at the time of this video -- and Sun later -- it is indeed an accurate characterization of Netscape. I remember it from orientation!

However, I'm baffled by why the poster thinks it's about Sun --- it's not, and it never was.

  • I was a Sun Boot camp instructor where I showed the Netscape video, and attempted to instill a little of the Netscape work philosophy on the Sun people.

  • Why'd you leave?

  • I'm still here, still teaching what I think is right, whether it is with or without Sun technology.

  • look at all this crap they were not working they were playing around that's why Microsoft kicked there a**

  • Playing? Have you bought online or banked online? Netscape developed SSL. As well, some of the Netscape developers developed the original source code that lead to the early Microsoft browser. We were creative, worked hard, and yes, played.

  • also Sun were the ones who invented Java...look everywhere, Java is there, and how would microsoft run alot of their apps without it?

  • Who are recruiting for Netscape or Sun?

  • The recruiting was for last year. I had an intern work with me for the summer here at Sun. She developed some training materials for OpenSolaris.

  • I was part of Netscape in 1996-98, and this video was probably shot around 1997-98.

Things moved fast, and we had an incredibly exciting time.

  • This is no represents Sun culture. This is a year 2000 video (oh! my God! time stills counting) and Sun has a bigger and more complex corp culture.

  • Oh my God, look at their clothes...this video is obviously from many years ago. I work for sun currently and while I am sure this video is still relevant to an exten, I can tell you LOTS has happened to the company in the last few years.

  • There is still a few of us Netscapers here at Sun. We tend to surprise the Sun people once in a while.

  • Wonderful

  • I have to say that I disagree with you that this video accurately represents Sun culture.

  • It represents part of a Sun sub-culture. I'm from Netscape, and still have the same spirit.

  • Are you primarily interested in people with video knowledge and own their own equipment?
