@ravinwolfband1 yeah, that woman, is me his wife and I was helping him out..I think you are rude for making such nasty comments. Even if I was not his wife, you sure have a way of trying to get your thoughts across and they are not appreciated. That woman..wow, what a joke.
I'm a barefoot runner, and although I do not run nearly as much mileage as Michael, I disagree with him about barefoot running as for me, it has been the only way I have been able to avoid injury, as it automatically teaches proper biomechanics and strengthens the legs and feet. The risk of stepping on something is overrated in my experience, and an experienced bf runner can safely wear minimalist shoes when conditions pose a true risk. I do agree that Vibrams are an overrated minimalist shoe.
@JMDMBM He wears the New Balance RC1400's model of shoe. It's a racing flat. Pretty good shoe actually. I wear the NB890 which is the same shoe but just a trainer.
Love this lecture! I am a new runner, and have run my first Marathon run in 5:53 min. 2 Sunday's ago, and the week after a 10K! I am trying to work on speed and find that I have a hard time with this. I am hooked I am a Raw Vegan, for 18 months now and now training for my 2nd Marathon in March 2012. I plan to do this all on a 100% Raw Vegan eating! I run about 5 days a week 3-5 miles & train with my longer runs on Sunday. Thanks for all your tips!
Michael, thank you for posting this for those of us that didn't attend the Fruit Festival. As a relatively new runner it has been wonderful to listen to your brain dump. I'll find it of great use for years to come. I'm reading the 80/10/10 book right now too. Thanks for your kindness in sharing. I'm trying to inspire my very young children to run (if they desire) & more importantly to eat tons of raw fruit. If you have any experiences to share about that I'm sure I'm not the only one interested.
I like the fact that you admit is altering your diet. Some people are so hardcore that they lie about given in or slipping sometimes. it doesnt mean that you have deserted what you believe in it is just something that happens.
Wonderful lecture Brother! To get to the spiritual - zen like experience you speak of early on in the lecture "Lose the Shoes" You'll be there in about 2 steps out the door! I too commute a minimum of 15 mpd and some days are over 50. Fruit does do a body good :)
For my part where I live I can run at night and don't need a lamp. I can see enough with the low light (residual light) everywhere around me (from cities far away light reflecting down from the clouds and even from the stars, the moon etc). Do you really recommend such a head lamp?
I do not know how the residual light varies in areas/countries I have never been before.
i think that deep connection what u are describing and love, near the beginning of your video, when u describe the emotional heart state of ultra running, is deep unconditional love and acceptance of yourself. this can be practiced anywhere with our focused intention and willinngness. much love brother and to anyone reading this now, Owen
@123gwf 1 of 2 things either your outa shape bad. or you run with no carbs in the talk. thry not to do alot when your first starting out then work your way up dont rush.
Love it, in the future videos of lectures (there better be more!), would you repeat the question before answering it? You usual do I think, but a few times you do not state the question clearly, or just skip to answering the question so we are left to infer. Thank you again for posting this.
side stitches happen often from organs rubbing up against the lining of your body cavity. This generally happens to people who have not run for very long or when a runner is running beyond fatigue. They are more common for women runners.
Couldn't somebody tell that woman to go get her own podium! Sorry, but how rude.
