Handbrake is also for video conversion, which is necessary given Final Cut Express' terrible and shitty support for the major output codecs. Apple Shake did NOTHING for LOTR. One could have EASILY used another node-based editor such as Blender or Nuke and achieved the SAME results. Which is why Shake has been discontinued.

I've used more Macs than YOU have, son. I currently run Snow Leopard on my ASUS laptop for Christ's sake. I've used Final Cut quite a lot. Here's a tip: it does NOTHING that can't be achieved in either Vegas or Premiere+After Effects, both of which are better programs.
A simple forum search for Final Cut Pro vs. Vegas will show that everyone which switched to Vegas, STAYED in Vegas. My choice is Premiere+After Effects, the FCP SERIAL KILLER that does it all, and better.

It's STILL a better program. I'm not knocking Final Cut Pro. But even you must be able to perform some simple mathematics and calculate the obvious conclusion: Apple would have made an astronomical profit by selling FCP for PCs, instead of holding up editors at gunpoint and forcing them to buy Macs. $800-$1000 on 5% of the market share isn't something to brag about.
Bottom line: Premiere + Aftereffects/Vegas does it better, with a plethora of Mac-slaying hardware to choose from

That being said, I've ran Windows for over a decade with only 1 BSOD caused by a faulty RAM module.
A properly maintained Windows PC will crash less than a Mac does. I should know. I've ran Windows for YEARS, and I've been running W7 on a total of 15 individual laptops, work computers, and home desktops for over a year without so much as a fart.
I lost track of how many times I've seen Mac kernel panics. Worse yet, the diagnostic info is nonexistent. Good luck pinning down the problem. There's a reason Macs have been shunned by the IT community as the butt of all tech-jokes.

Also, you're overlooking that Microsoft actually gained market share from Vista... gained it. The worst release they've had since ME, and they made money. What's more, let me know when Apple has a viable alternative to Active Directory.
It's a testament to solid business decisions, which have zero to do with the software in question. I think Vista was a waste of time, but it was a building block to a supremely better OS. Win7 has all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses. Some people forget that the reason Apple was (and still is) the butt-of-jokes whipping boy in the computer sector is because they were incapable of properly handling the market. That is why their market share is so pathetic.

It should boil down to what OS you most feel comfortable with. I'm a veteran with all three. Leopard is obviously the most abysmal and terrible of the three. Linux is unstable. No other OS crashes on the first reboot after a clean installation without any settings changed. Windows might be the least secure, but it also does the most. Learn to plug the holes correctly and you'll have the best OS. My work and play requires versatility. Windows 7 is the answer.

why would you need to build it to an all in one form factor, ive never been a fan of those, and with the smaller form factor you cant get as good of hardware as you can in a tower, most people just dont need macs,
All-in-ones are best suited to college kids living in cramped-ass dorm rooms, or people living in closets who don't have that extra 6" of floor space to put a tower. The only all-in-one computer to get it right is the Lenovo A600 IdeaCentre.....a system which allows you to swap out literally ANY component and upgrade it to your heart's content. Tack a 30" Dell UltraSharp monitor on there if you wish, and you've got the best bang for the buck.
The core-i iMacs are phenomenal, almost matching the Mac Pro's power but in such an elegant and clean form. They can handle up to 16gb of memory, use regular SATA or SATA II drives so storage is theoretically limitless, and as far as I know, people have been swapping the CPU's in the Mac Pros and iMacs for years, if in an unorthodox manner.
Unfortunately, BlackWidow, neither the iMac or the Mac Pro is capable of utilizing anything except 1066MHz DDR3 RAM, the SLOWEST, WEAKEST RAM on the market.
As for swapping CPUs, that's very difficult if the motherboard architecture doesn't support new chips. They won't be swapping NEXT year, I guarantee you, without a new motherboard.
Their power is, at best, a joke. The 8-Core Mac Pro got spanked on 3 out of 4 benchmark tests.
The cheap-ass $100 video cards are just icing on the cake.
If you put DDR2 with 1150MHz in your computer, chances are it'll OUTPERFORM 1066MHz DDR3, or don't you know ANYTHING about computers??? The difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is NEGLIGIBLE unless you're talking higher clock speeds......

So is Adobe Premiere + After Effects, and they run on Mac and PC. Further, Final Cut Express is a piece of shit that can't even output to popular video formats without relying on Handbrake for assistance. If you go Pro, expect to pay $1000 dollars.
What a shame that Apple would make more money selling FCP for PCs with superior hardware, than trying to force-feed Macs down an editor's throat. Overpriced, underpowered, and they get spanked to death by PCs that cost WAY, WAY less.

Handbrake is also for video conversion, which is necessary given Final Cut Express' terrible and shitty support for the major output codecs. Apple Shake did NOTHING for LOTR. One could have EASILY used another node-based editor such as Blender or Nuke and achieved the SAME results. Which is why Shake has been discontinued.

When a BSOD happens in Windows, it's due almost exclusively to user incompetence. Mac kernel panics however.......are just there. I've used more Macs than YOU have, son. I currently run Snow Leopard on my ASUS laptop for Christ's sake. I've used Final Cut quite a lot. Here's a tip: it does NOTHING that can't be achieved in either Vegas or Premiere+After Effects, both of which are better programs.
A simple forum search for Final Cut Pro vs. Vegas will show that everyone which switched to Vegas, STAYED in Vegas. My choice is Premiere+After Effects, the FCP SERIAL KILLER that does it all, and better.

It's STILL a better program. I'm not knocking Final Cut Pro. But even you must be able to perform some simple mathematics and calculate the obvious conclusion: Apple would have made an astronomical profit by selling FCP for PCs, instead of holding up editors at gunpoint and forcing them to buy Macs. $800-$1000 on 5% of the market share isn't something to brag about.
Bottom line: Premiere + Aftereffects/Vegas does it better, with a plethora of Mac-slaying hardware to choose from

A properly maintained Windows PC will crash less than a Mac does. I should know. I've ran Windows for YEARS, and I've been running W7 on a total of 15 individual laptops, work computers, and home desktops for over a year without so much as a fart.
I lost track of how many times I've seen Mac kernel panics. Worse yet, the diagnostic info is nonexistent. Good luck pinning down the problem. There's a reason Macs have been shunned by the IT community as the butt of all tech-jokes.

User friendly? Yes. But....that's not always a good thing. Nobody should be forced to swallow an unnecessarily overcomplicated OS like Linux, for example....but the problem is that the more dumbed down something is, the more easily people are fooled.
I can probably estimate that 5% of Mac customers actually know what's inside their computers. The other 95% have no idea how badly they're getting duped by inferior hardware for an astronomical price tag.

It's a testament to solid business decisions, which have zero to do with the software in question. I think Vista was a waste of time, but it was a building block to a supremely better OS. Win7 has all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses. Some people forget that the reason Apple was (and still is) the butt-of-jokes whipping boy in the computer sector is because they were incapable of properly handling the market. It still amazes me how Apple's approach to be so different and separate from it's competitors leaves only their users high and dry, whom never seem to mind. iPad being the latest example, no flash support because it's 'legacy technology', and HTML5 is the proposed alternative? Flash isn't legacy, it's current technology, and HTML5 could be years down the road likely released long after the iPad. Should they drop IPv4 also, and recommend v6 lol

In an effort to sound as if they're pushing the technological boundaries, Apple makes a bold statement that masks the fact that they're simply afraid of Flash competing with their iTunes gravy train. This is classic Apple. Lies, half-truths, and (almost all the time) complete and utter bullshit. This is the same company that got hit with a class action lawsuit for lying about a 14 hour battery life on the 5th gen iPod, when in fact all it got was 8 hours.

Just to throw it out there, I'm not a "hater" or a pc fanboi. I happen to think that windows is crap, but Mac is not the solution. All the marketing in the world trying to make it "hip" changes nothing. If I had the time, I'd learn Linux, but not all of us are 11 year old genii with Al Gore the fraudster for a best friend, and a personal assistant on the "company" payroll. As a final point, I'm typing this on an iPhone, so credit where credit's due...

It should boil down to what OS you most feel comfortable with. I'm a veteran with all three. Leopard is obviously the most abysmal and terrible of the three. Linux is unstable. No other OS crashes on the first reboot after a clean installation without any settings changed. Windows might be the least secure, but it also does the most. Learn to plug the holes correctly and you'll have the best OS. My work and play requires versatility. Windows 7 is the answer.

Now it's the iTampon.....errrr......iPad, a rip-roaring JOKE of a brick that doesn't sport a camera (seriously?), and can't utilize Flash. Meanwhile, Apple has given every pathetic excuse in the book for THAT blunder.....but I guess no one took into account that Flash capability would be a severe threat to the iTunes App Store.
So they'd rather screw their customers out of 70% of the web and 75% of web-based video, just to line their pockets even more.

President Barack Obama is a mac and so is former vice president and President elect Al Gore. That all shows some of the smartest people in the world have macs. Let's not even mention the multiple class-action lawsuits for blatant, outright bullshitting. (the supposed 14-hour battery life on the 5th generation 30GB iPod, anyone?) or the hideously shitty quality of iMacs....which.....for the last 2 years have been going back by the truckloads because of severe design flaws and poor quality.
In the end, it doesn't matter. I laugh whenever Apple brings out another substandard, weak-ass product built inside a house of cards. I like a good laugh.

why would you need to build it to an all in one form factor, ive never been a fan of those, and with the smaller form factor you cant get as good of hardware as you can in a tower, most people just dont need macs,

All-in-ones are best suited to college kids living in cramped-ass dorm rooms, or people living in closets who don't have that extra 6" of floor space to put a tower. The only all-in-one computer to get it right is the Lenovo A600 IdeaCentre.....a system which allows you to swap out literally ANY component and upgrade it to your heart's content. Tack a 30" Dell UltraSharp monitor on there if you wish, and you've got the best bang for the buck.
The iMac? Pfffft, not even close.

The core-i iMacs are phenomenal, almost matching the Mac Pro's power but in such an elegant and clean form. They can handle up to 16gb of memory, use regular SATA or SATA II drives so storage is theoretically limitless, and as far as I know, people have been swapping the CPU's in the Mac Pros and iMacs for years, if in an unorthodox manner.
I would only buy an All-in-one for form.

Unfortunately, BlackWidow, neither the iMac or the Mac Pro is capable of utilizing anything except 1066MHz DDR3 RAM, the SLOWEST, WEAKEST RAM on the market.
As for swapping CPUs, that's very difficult if the motherboard architecture doesn't support new chips. They won't be swapping NEXT year, I guarantee you, without a new motherboard.
Their power is, at best, a joke. The 8-Core Mac Pro got spanked on 3 out of 4 benchmark tests.
The cheap-ass $100 video cards are just icing on the cake.

If you put DDR2 with 1150MHz in your computer, chances are it'll OUTPERFORM 1066MHz DDR3, or don't you know ANYTHING about computers??? The difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is NEGLIGIBLE unless you're talking higher clock speeds......
.......the same clock speeds that Mac CAN'T put into their systems, all the way up to 2200Mhz
