That orange one with the thing on its head has chubby cheeks. Cute fish sorry bout your black ones eye, never thought I'd see fish being and even wanting to be petted. Awesome video :P
This is the cutest Thing ive ever Seen :) i remember when i was Young my grandad had an handtame carp in His Large Pond :) but this ;) ;) awwwwwwww respect
@mikeydude319 Jack had an ongoing eye problem from beginning-many fancies have genetic issues making them vulnerable. Goldfish (esp. fancies) should be with similar goldfish-other fish are not compatible regardless of petshop advise. Keep them or her in excellent water in a cycled tank of sufficient size away from attackers and neg. stress/fear. Let time and conservative care do what it can. Visit a goldfish specific site such as thegab.org to communicate with experienced owners.
@mikeydude319 Goldfish tanks do not need "cleaners"-and they are too often aggressors-which oftimes handicapped fancies are ill equipped to defend against. 55 gal is a great beginning size-but do upgrade to the 75gal-hat's how it begins-*heh,heh*. Tell on one of your videos that you use a net-I opt for the traditional oriental way, hands (clean, no soap). To me it is safer, and more comfortable for the fish (esp when tame) and helps control injurious thrashing. Fear, not hand touch, harms.
@zeplinair unfortunately u do no i'm 13 and can't afford it and well mom is not happy about an upgrade and she won't buy it for birthday and or christmas so i am going to have 6 fancies and a black mystery snail and what do u feed your fish? and i have 5 sandy plants and 5 pieces of bamboo!!! along with 3 filters and home made one too!!!!!! with monthly water changes.
@MsSally4253 They've never felt wierd to me. They aren't glass, but do be careful Never terrify an animal. Clean hands, but no soap (at all) on them. Provide LOTS of social interaction (fish face time?); watch/learn reactions and behavior. I find imitation helps; side to side motion, mouth movement and even auditory rhythm tends to get a back and forth interaction. Pace according to their reactions and behavior. Small young fish tend to be skittish, but less so as they grow.
Fish that size, absolutely not. Nor for most any other size. Not even my hospital tanks are that small. That tank was 75gal. Since mid-2007 they are in a 125gal. Goldfish need much more space and filtration (and knowledge) than ignorant popular images show to a naive public. Please visit a good non-commercial goldfish/goldfish owner specific site/forum, such as thegab.org, to begin to understand what these creatures need. Hint-Don't trust advice of pet retailers! Research, research!
This is the conventional wisdom, but the real problem of handling is not "rubbing off mucous", (which self renews in a healthy fish), but stress, panic and fear-most fish are not tame. For health issues, check (in order) for water quality (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate(the creeping health hazard), buffering capacity for stable pH, etc), parasites, and also tank decor or features they may be hitting or rubbing against. Correct these and they usually resolve, touch (tame fish) or no.
She is so precious.. She definitely loves the attention and the touch. I noticed your lionhead has a very unique color is it green or is it just the video?
I used to have a goldfish that loved to be pet. He'd swim around fast, then up to the top of the tank as soon as I'd enter the room. I'd put my fingers in the tank and he'd rub up against them like a cat or dog. No one believed me until I showed them. He also loved to swim through the tickling bubbles. ;P
wiw iv never seen a fish that loves to be petted before and will follow your hand like that. Iv always wanted to pet a fish but there always afraid of my hand =(... but this is soooo cute ^_^
Okay I am leaving another comment: thank you for posting this! I love animals and it is so wonderful to see someone showing how loving and wonderful fish are. What a great fish fish owner!
Oh my gosh look at that cute thing! Wow... it's cool that they like to be petted.. awesome! They really love you! I never knew they liked to be petted or given attention. Neat!!!
@Blackrose456654 Indeed it is I love fish like those because they are very lovable and they will actualy let you Pet them!.
sadly they are very expensive and hard to get considering they are mostly raised in Japan and you need a special exotic pet CLASS3 Lisence to own one =(
Just for the Class 3 pet Lisence will cost you Between $2,800 to $3,900 but thats if you have the proper forms and contracts includeing Filed applications wich takes 2 to 5 Years pending what state you live in.
It's lovely to have such a heart for even the smallest goldfish. I have 2 comets, 1 feeder, and 1 pearlscale and they always come and stare at me when I come to the tank, then hide when my brother comes LOL. P.S. The Fish Whisperer XD!
How lovely to have such a bond! I saw another video recently of a man playing with and cuddeling his oranda with his hand, very similar to this. Just shows how sociable and playful fishies are!
your ryukin doesn't try to eat sweat pea's wen? I heard they would. I had an oranda that died from nitrogen poisoning when i was out of town (the person feeding them fed them waaaaay too much...) I bought a ryukin to keep my fantail company, but I miss the friendliness of my oranda and would like another one at some point. I just don't want the ryukin to kill it. I had heard ryukins were the most aggressive breed.
Your fish are huge and healthy. good job raising them. :)
@pyramidheadthingy Orandas (which is one of the breeds of goldfish in the tank) usually have those heads (I think they're called wens), I don't know exactly what purpose they have though.
@Animal2Fish0 Hi, a friend of mine who used to own a pet shop told me when he first learned of fancy fish, the wen is a soft fluid filled area that can burst or be popped by sharp objects in the tank, its a genetically bred 'feature' which he believes is cruel, not natural and is some form of tumor. It serves no purpose at all to the fish, its humans that demanded 'less boring' breeds of fish :( Beautifull as they are, i cant help but feel sorry for them i know it sounds silly :(
@JohnnyX50 Yeah, I don't get these breeding features to make fish more interesting. I also hate painting and dying and tattooing fish. I mean, there's natural species of fish that are beautiful already, so yeah, I agree with you there.
The wen is extra tissue growth. It wounds like tissue. It's jelly like, but not a fluid filled area that can be burst. But that does describe "bubble-eye"- bred with fluid filled sacks under the eyes, usually pushing the eyes to an upward stare. But I agree that extreme bred features ARE a serious welfare issue. But in usual form, folk are blind until they identify with an animal (or appreciate that science is now revealing that vertebrate brains are more alike in suffering than not)
your fish started doing a flip kinda upside down. i was wondering if there's something wrong w/ their swim bladder or is that normal goldfish behavior to kinda 'roll around' sometimes?
Aww! I used to have a tank full of big goldfish that would do that! 2 Black moors, a gorgeous ryukin, an oranda and a regular fantail. I miss my goldfish! :-)
An oranda is a 'fancy' or ornamental goldfish. As for what subtype of oranda, not sure what formal name to use but that Sweet Pea is a red oranda, but a big-headed one-though the head (wen) was trimmed by her vet for health and quality of life issues. In my experience, the bigger the head, the more initially personable. Cherry is a another type, red cap oranda, with the head growth mainly on the top.
I socialized spontaneously with her and her tankmates with a confident loving attitude. As an oranda, the rest was her idea and she chased my hand at tank cleaning. They do make eye contact and reciprocate expressively-they do have expression/body language. For the others, I tested limits over time, careful if nervous. You don't want an animal afraid to point of panic. Its the worse feeling and dangerous for them, and can undo your effort. Food helps, but most interaction shouldn't be @food.
i love goldfish, my bubba swims to the bottom looking for food, and them he starts like flipping and then he starts swimming like normal again, i love them!!
Is Bubba a ryukin? Common problem with them. Helps to be careful about their diet since too much food aggravates it and being fat isn't healthy for them just as us. Its so easy to overfeed them. They make us feel so loved when we give them too much.
Love this vid!! Nice to know I'm not the only one! Goldfish are such underappreciated pets - they're just as happy to see you as anything furry, and they love your touch too. I've kept goldies all my life. Yours are gorgeous!! Congrats!
It's a black moor, so both eyes are supposed to be big, but sometimes poor breeding ends up with a moor with one large eye and one smaller. But of course, it doesn't usually compromise the fish's health and they're just as good as any other one- other than the fact of being assymmetrical xD
unfortunately, in Jack's case, he was ill-signs with his eyes from the very first. One had collapsed on its own without incident, but not the other. Jack passed away March 2007 when his large eye burst as I was awaiting test results from the vet-didn't know if cancer was involved-before deciding whether to subject him to eye removal surgery. I used anesthetic in a bag in his own tank to alleviate his suffering.
Can it be like you put one in a 20? or 30? and how do you keep it clean for months without underfeeding and how do you make sure they eat? goldfish I have spit their food out and try to consume it back again? can you shed some light on this? Can you tell me which are the best foods for it?
Thats the cutest trick ever. But be sure that since your touching her put that "aloe vera" stuff like alot of it so it replenishes any lost scales and whatnot. You can also use "aquarium salt" just a little bit of it and itll prevent illness :] Your a good pet owner. Which brings me to. Can you teach me how to do that? ^^;; I know its all love and care but I wanna get a ranchu and do what your doing ^^;; Btw. Can I keep one ranchu in a 10? or does it have to be in a 20? or 30? :/
Try playing doing this in a tank of piranha haha

your fish started doing a flip kinda upside down. i was wondering if there's something wrong w/ their swim bladder or is that normal goldfish behavior to kinda 'roll around' sometimes?

how old is your oranda?? We just "emerged" ourselves in the goldfish world and got a 6" black oranda.

Aww! Beautiful fish! Bit doesn't that remove their slime coat when you touch them?

Discussing opinion, I have no problem, but I am removing your comment for language. I have known people to arrive here with their children.

did you sqeeze the moor/s eye
joshuapro99 2 years ago
No-always careful. It had barely touched when realized his eye was there-I was shooting vid at the same time.

I was told those bulging "eyes" were actually its eyelids, to keep a lot of security to the real eye. P.S. This is adorable! :)

Aww! I used to have a tank full of big goldfish that would do that! 2 Black moors, a gorgeous ryukin, an oranda and a regular fantail. I miss my goldfish! :-)

and what kind of oranda is sweet pea?
cyberfish104 2 years ago
An oranda is a 'fancy' or ornamental goldfish. As for what subtype of oranda, not sure what formal name to use but that Sweet Pea is a red oranda, but a big-headed one-though the head (wen) was trimmed by her vet for health and quality of life issues. In my experience, the bigger the head, the more initially personable. Cherry is a another type, red cap oranda, with the head growth mainly on the top.

how did you tame it? please answer
cyberfish104 2 years ago
I socialized spontaneously with her and her tankmates with a confident loving attitude. As an oranda, the rest was her idea and she chased my hand at tank cleaning. They do make eye contact and reciprocate expressively-they do have expression/body language. For the others, I tested limits over time, careful if nervous. You don't want an animal afraid to point of panic. Its the worse feeling and dangerous for them, and can undo your effort. Food helps, but most interaction shouldn't be @food.

This is so entirely cute, it makes me love goldfish even more. I hope to get to that point someday with the two I have now :)

i love goldfish, my bubba swims to the bottom looking for food, and them he starts like flipping and then he starts swimming like normal again, i love them!!
great fish

Is Bubba a ryukin? Common problem with them. Helps to be careful about their diet since too much food aggravates it and being fat isn't healthy for them just as us. Its so easy to overfeed them. They make us feel so loved when we give them too much.

Love this vid!! Nice to know I'm not the only one! Goldfish are such underappreciated pets - they're just as happy to see you as anything furry, and they love your touch too. I've kept goldies all my life. Yours are gorgeous!! Congrats!

what is going on? i don't understand.
why is the black one's left eye so BIG? that is
theduffmanben 2 years ago

Can you tell me which are the best foods for it?

how cute is she! awe and i love her name!!!!
oumlady 2 years ago
Thats the cutest trick ever. But be sure that since your touching her put that "aloe vera" stuff like alot of it so it replenishes any lost scales and whatnot. You can also use "aquarium salt" just a little bit of it and itll prevent illness :] Your a good pet owner. Which brings me to. Can you teach me how to do that? ^^;; I know its all love and care but I wanna get a ranchu and do what your doing ^^;; Btw. Can I keep one ranchu in a 10? or does it have to be in a 20? or 30? :/
