It's really a shame they supply windows standard with every notebook, they do charge like 100 bucks for it. It was slow and I hate the annoying eyecandy. Windows NT had at least a nice basic GUI. After Vista, I started experimenting with linux. Ubuntu is in my opinion becoming a second windows and has standard an ugly brown color. Now I use Gentoo with XFCE and like using the CLI.

With M$ you lose the customizability these days.

XP is the only release that is fully updated and really nice..... Windows 7 is Vista with a small cutdown in the resolution of icons, UI, etc. so it uses slightly LESS RAM, that's the only difference with Windows 7. Copy and Paste the word.

It absolutely will. I nabbed the leaked Beta a week or so ago and put it on my ancient P4 2.4gHz with 512mb of RAM. It all worked perfectly well except that my old video card wasn't DirectX 9 compatible so I had to use fairly low resolutions. Beyond that minor issue, it ran extremely fast for the old hardware used.

Bingo- putting OSX on a PC isn't a Windows limitation (in fact, suggesting so shows a total disconnect with the way MS does business). It's actually quite difficult to find a PC that can accept the OSX kernel and then support all the myriad of drivers a unique PC system will need. MS builds software that takes on the monumental challenge of supporting all consumer hardware, quite unlike Apple.

i have a few pcs laptops and desktops and my own pc gaming rig from some of my video u can see it but i pretty much stopped playing games on pc and mac and bought both consoles to do that for me :D now i dont need my pc and i can just pick up my mac and have it on sleep all day without having to wait 10 years for it to come out of hibernate lol

lol yeah linux is programming and OE heaven. i liek my pc because i changed the OS to only load what i need. the main reason i dont like mac is because it hides everything from you. what if i wana rezedit the OS or change a bunch of stuff about it to optimize it for my use? hell, the taskman for macs dont even show all the processes >_> and my PC has never blue screened on me, but my mac gets these kernel panics all the time and it locks up real good.. idk what to do about it DX

lol my pc was a pretty stupid spec hardcore gaming rig and it froze about 5 times in the year i built it which isnt alot and it was after some hours of playing games and such could of been driver related i guess but my mac just works lol its fast does everything my pc did and does it all easier for me to access i dunno really but when i got my macbook pro i sold my pc and bought consoles to do the gaming part :)

i still like pc dont get me wrong just in my book mac is the better way forward

lol good point. probably the reason the mac worked for you better was because if u built that gaming rig then one bad thing about being able to build them from scratch is some components dont work well together.

also, probably a driver problem. it took me a whopping 20 min to fix my drivers [but thats because im leet] so.. for anyone who doenst want to be a "nerd" and know about their rig mac's are their computer. but for the programmer/control freak/gamer id say windows. depends wat u want.

Windows Vista needs a lot of ram to do anything, but its speed for various tasks is very good, by far the best event que and pipelinging. plus the macs UI jsut pisses me off, when i maximize a window, it just makes it big and u end up having to drag it out to fit your screen anyway, and you can still move it wich sucks.. not good for programming or compatability with my external devices [PSP] which is all i do.

Beta version of windows 7 is a timed release. It will probably lock itself down around some time in the future, either by stop working or with the nag screen prompting you to buy a retail copy.

You should just wait it out and buy a computer that'll inevitably come with 7 os at some point.
