that day will be when all programs and games will be made for linux, linux is free = no benefit for game makers = that day will be at the end of the world
FINALLY! it's only taken 5 years for linuxceses to copy what Stardock and Apple already did! YOU WAIT! LINUX WILL HAVE A BETTER MOUSE! IT'S BETTER AS IT HAS 101 BUTTONS ON IT!
Indexed searches? NTFS networking? An integrated Mail client? Graphics accelerated desktop?
As far as performance, Vista is much slower than XP. Most of the machines that I have put it on have a difference in performance. Many PC magazines have also pointed this out.
vista is better? u must be jokin. i have just installed beryl on my SUSE 10.1. this system is awesome. you can do crazy things. aero has nothing to compare to xgl with beryl. and secondly aero has nothing to offer and third it takes too much RAM
Fred: I just spent all day compiling my kernel and setting up.
John: I spent all day playing games. That'll teach you for using Linsux. Windoze may suck also, but at least I don't spend most of my time messing around with it, I just use it.
Er... I just use it too ("Compiling Kernel?" Have you even tried to use linux [Hopefully not a "1337" distro :P]?).
Sure, if you only use your computer for gaming you'll prefer XP (Not Vista though, DX10 isn't worth the performance loss), but you can use both Linux and Windows. That's what I do (Dual boot Ubuntu and XP).
Vista takes higher requirements than linux with beryl...You don't have to compile anything either, you just go to the installer menu and install beryl.

Much better. The cube is very nice for organizing common tasks, mail on one side programming on another etc... Having all the windows shown on the desktop is much nicer than trying to flip through them. And it is very fast.
For those who say that Vista has a new search tool, so does Linux and Mac, they've had it for some time. Vista is just catching up.
I think you're clueless. Microsoft demonstrated integrated desktop search long before Linux and OSX decided to add it. Get your facts straight because otherwise you just look stupid.
You need to read before you reply. We are not talking about integrated desktop search, we are talking about indexed search using xml. Indexed searches are far more powerful and flexible returning categorized search results. MS didn't have this until Vista and hadn't demonstrated it before. I'm not flaming you. I'm presenting facts. If you like Vista then use it, but don't flame people that have a different opinion.
Are you retarded ? The latest stuff I'm seeing on people's Linux desktops blows Aero completely out of the water and without the massive overhead in system resource requirements.
One day and I know that day will come, linux will replace windows, It is just better.
And Bill Gates will use linux and say every 5 seconds "why didn't I think of that?"
When I come to power, I will make a law that all software must come with an open sourse.

Linux have the advantage of a Open Source Kernel. This gives advantages such as:
No one can sell it
Everyone can improve it
It is updated more often than Windows Kernel
It is cleaner
It is faster

"(3) Why would you want to upgrade your hardware? And spend a whole day compiling kernal to get it to work?"
if by that you mean, install the nvidia drivers and click one button... yeah... i might break a nail.

1. you can customize aero
2. aero is not the only thing that is in vista
3. performance difference between aero and non aero desktops are so close there is "no" difference.
It's all a bunch of useless eye candy, that you can get for windows with stardock products anyway.

What does Vista have that OS X, or Linux don't?

Wow, all I had to do in linux mint to use beryl is to turn it on! Maybe when you grow a brain to could check back!

Of course its better than Aero.
(1) You can customise it. (Beryl is far more flexible)
(2) $0...And how much did you pay for Vista?
(3) Less likely to need a hardware upgrade.
aussiebear22 5 years ago
(1) Vista will be customizable in the future the same way XP is now
(2)$0 Paid
(3) Why would you want to upgrade your hardware? And spend a whole day compiling kernal to get it to work?

Better than Aero? Are you kidding me? Lets see:
useless flames
useless wobbly windows
useless water drops/snow
The only thing vaguely useful (and this is a stretch) is the virtual desktop cube switching.
Better than Aero? Hah, don't make me laugh.

Yep, those translucent window borders in vista totally increase my productivity !

"Vaguely" useful? try it and you'll see.
Ofc most of the eyecandy is useless. But if there's a part that isn't, that's the Cube, which is great for seeing all your desktops at once.
That's much more than what Vista has (3D Flip. Why'd you use that when you can just AltTab??). And with more eye candy.
