Ok, after speaking with many of my anti gay marriage friends and family, I have come to a conclusion that we are never going to fully persuade the other side. Many support virtual equality, but at the very heart of their views is a rock-solid belief that marriage only = men and women. They also fear societal change. As we obviously have no problem with this, and would see it as a sign of progress if gay couples were to gain legitimacy in public life, I think it is best we move on without them.

No, you're taking things out of their respective context. Shellfish is mentioned for health-related reasons (appropriate for the Israelite community at that time), divorce isn't illegal, it's merely discouraged.
