@robertacatholic... Doris Day had an "adult contemporary" hit with "I'll Never Stop Loving You" back in 1955, but in 1964, Tommy Reagan and The Halos "Doo-Wopped" it and enjoyed significant success... obviously the version Sha Na Na is covering is Tommy Reagan's.
Just To Think... JC= 60 On: 12/23/2011 'Yikes' I'm Hoping ALL Sha-Na-Na Fans' Kindly Find A Way To Tell JC That He's Still LOVED & Appreciated...He's Worth ALL Credit, I've ALWAYS Been A Fan Of His & Bowzer's Too, I Wish Sha-Na-Na Was On DVD/Video, That Won't Happen UNTIL... We Fans DEMAND It/ & Some Company Produces It, UNTIL Then, THANKS To ALL Who Post Sha-Na-Na Videos' On YouTube !! :=)
@ContardoholicFan Johnny is still the sexiest man alive, and the nicest too(sorry hubby) and I love him loads sixty is but a number, his voice is the same as ever, and i would sell my soul to be able to meet him , but distance is a problem , not to mention several hours of flying time!! But J. can rest assured that he is very much loved xx
That's when music was *fun* not lyrics that beat up on women/girls or making everything so darn serious! Plus has fun upbeat dancing music wayyyyy back then!
@doowopbruce Honestly didn't know the song or the group, being there were so many groups with "dell" in their names it was hard to keep track. Heard the song and yes classic doo wop done very well. Thanks for responding.
I'm 32 year's and I sit in my mom bedroom listen to my lp records of Sha Na Na's and when they had reruns of the show I watch them ty so much posting the video brings back great memories.Bowzer Rules!!!!!!
Today bowser is a dude in a game. This is the Bowser and sha na na at their best,BRING BACK DooWop I can still watch this though Thanks for the upload.Grease for Peace
Eat your heart out- I have three 3xhour video tapes of Sha-Na-Na, recorded from the T.V in the 1980s!! I loved them then, and still do..Such great talent..
@sweetipie1965 - I am sorry I did not explain myself well. I guess what I was trying to say if he lived in the Doo wop Era (1954-1963), and groups were looking for a lead singer. There would have been a bidding war if they heard Mr. Contardo sing.
I understand now...LOL...when they were on in the late 70's my mother could not be convinced that the guys weren't her age...LOL I tried to tell her that Johnny was actually younger than my sister, but she wouldn't believe me...LOL
I agree with you. I'm from a different era (70's and 80's), but fell in love with doo wop. Loved the PBS specials. The song Ding a Ling Ding Dong was well done by Sha Na Na. Too bad Johnny Contardo did not lead sing for a group back in the 50's and early 60's.
Interesting.. Someone in Sha Na Na (or one of their producers) was really hardcore into doo wop. They start off with True True Love by The Corvairs and then I'll Never Stop Loving You by Tommy Reagan.. Sha Na Na does a great job on both records too
Sha Na Na is Awesome! I watched their TV show in the late 70's, I was in my very early 20's; I was born in 1957! These videos are bringing back a lot of great memories! Thanks Faerydancer for posting this & the other SNN videos!
Cool! It's a real shame that they can't get the show on DVD due to licensing fees, etc. I'm sure it would sell extremely fast. But, at least we have the videos on You Tube!
Wow...i just found a place online and listened to Tommy Reagan & the Halos. It is clear that this is the version Shanana was covering. David Whitfield may have done it in the 50's but it sure wasn't doo-wop. Just another bit of useless trivia: David Whitfield also sang "Cara Mia" as a slow love song that was later released by Jay & the Americans.
Carol, Thank you very much for your kind e-mail reply. Iactually found the original doo-wop version of this song. recorded by a group called Tommy Regan and The Haloes on the Colpix Label in 1964. The same record company that signed The Marcels to record the doo-wop version of Blue Moon in 1961. I collect records (over 25,000 at last count lol) I was able to find/ listen to Tommy Regan & Haloes singing this song. Sound a lot like Marcels and this is indeed their song, Sha na na is covering
However, I never heard this doo-wop version of I'll Never Stop Loving You. Johnny sings it great. Can someone please tell me who recorded this version that he must be covering ( since that's what Sha-na-na did ). Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this. I was stationed overseas during the period Sha-na-na- had their TV show. I am also a record collector with over 25,000 45's. I thought I was familiar with every doo-wop song recorded until I saw this video. I realize this is two songs in one--done very brillantly and the first song is TRUE, TRUE LOVE. I also know that Doris Day sang a much slower, romantic version of the second song (in the first motion picture she made in 1955 I believe). CON'T
My parents used to breed St Bernard Dogs... they loved this band so much, they named the best of one of the litters after Bowser. :) It's the reason I'm looking for clips of Shanana. XD

To That Person Who Disliked My Sha-Na-Na Comments', You're "Rude-Attitude" Isn't Called For, I Was Born In: 1974, & This Era Of Music Is Older Than I Am, & The Current Sha-Na-Na Is Not The Same As The TV-Era Of Sha-Na-Na, & Johnny Contardo & Bowzer Are My Fave From Sha-Na-Na, I'm A Music-Appreciator, Except For "Rap-Music", I Totally Dislike "Rap-Music".

ContardoholicFan,
You misunderstood my reply. I was actually supportive of your comment.
My point was that as years go by ... ... more and more people from later generations appreciate the musical talent
of gifted people before their time.
I agree with your comments on Sha-Na -Na and many of the posted videos are among my favorites.
I should have been more clearer on my first comment to avoid misunderstanding.

Although I Watched Sha-Na-Na On TV, The Era These Songs Came From Predates Me By 10-Plus Years At-Least, Yup, I Was Born In The

ContardoholicFan,
Regardless of Era ... remember this ...
A "bazillion" people worldwide ... from many cultures and countries still love Mozart and many others from long ago.
In that time scale, Sha-Na-Na is very recent and will contimue to grow in many hearts that listen to their music.
... after all all ...
Great music ... IS ... Great music ...
... regardless of era :)
