The best way to learn how to air strafing is to play surf. The way surf works it also makes air strafing easier.

@r4ngepker No, the damage isn't that high. Also there is an item called the Gunboats which replaces your shotgun, which makes damage from your own rockets drop by something like 60%, thus making rocket jumping take even less damage.

Crouching isn't necessary when you're already in the air. You can actually do higher/further jumps if you (quickly) tapcrouch before shooting, but it's hard to time and can be somewhat inconsistent (you also have to crouch again whenever you need to extend your jump).

@xLordLeroyx Make sure you're only hold A/D + Crouch. No others keys. The only other mistake you might be making is that you're turning your mouse too fast. Turn it like a steering wheel, aka a smooth turn.

crouching does NOT give you maximum control

while crouching, your movement speed on ground is lower then while standing

and just the maximum speed affects the strafing ( i play alot surfmaps on tf2 so i tried that often

@EveryNameAssigned actually you dont get faster. youre speed is exactly the same. type showpos in console and look at your speed when you do both. crouching gives you more control and makes your hitbox smaller. also when you are crouching and you do get airpiped or air rocketed, the crouch allows you to surf it. While you're standing you cant ride rockets as efficiently.

@mrchazanthony well, both of u are right with your own statements. the trick to fly faster in the air is to tap jump. that means u must tap the ctrl button within such a short time, your movement speed down decrease. u must rocket jump at the moment where ur squatting down and ur movement speed remains at 240. that way u can fly faster.

I liked the little "+" signs floating in your vision, if they are there to indicate you are buffed to over-health and wish they were standard.

The way I see it they don't obstruct your vision much and serve as a very good visual reminder like you get with fire only the opposite. Fire ring around visions says "find health" yet + signs indicate "I'm good, time to go fight"

nope. everything is highest quality and i get about 150-200 fps avg. these are thenoid's custom explosions to reduce the mass amount of smoke. they no longer have these up anymore though as they were banned from competitive play.

Hmm... odd I do a lot of jump maps/bball and have never really noticed that. Might just be out of habit when jumping to hold crouch. SO what does holding crouch supposed to do give you more control? more distance? more height? crouching gives you height and control. You will be able to land higher just like crouch jumping can get you to more places. also, for sure crouching gives you more control. with crouch jumping, you can strafe in up to 2 complete circles with 1 rocket jump.

nice job boogz, but you forgot to mention how important it can be for landing on things if you get shot to save you life (strafing backward to avoid fall damage). It should prob be included to really emphasize how important it is to not take fall damage as you mentioned it in your demo jumping tutorials. As it can slow you down and make you a much easier target.
