A perfect listen, as it is hot where I am! How tragic poor Jacque is in his songs--heartbreak and loss. Nobody did pathos better, but he also had a wonderful sense of humour at other times!
This is a wonderful live performance of LA FANETTE, and "Le Grand Jacques" is brilliant as always, but there is no ondes Martenot in this version of the song. If you want to hear the ondes, it is on the original Barclay Records arrangement.
The ondiste who plays on the Barclay recording is the late Sylvette Allart, who worked frequently with Brel and played the ondes for many years at the famous "Folies-Bergeres" in Paris.
You are right - and thanks for explanations. I would add that I'm also very happy to discover Brel songs on stage with some other musical arrangement than the one that is always played and heared on medias for so many years. To touch the sound of the reality of a huge "on stage performer" made me forgot the beautiful onde martenots have been hearing from my chilhood on this song :))
@copperleaves You are so right Peter. I reposted something I wrote long ago in another account and failed to edit it. Good to hear from you . I look forward to your performances.
Il ne racontait rien d'ordinaire en parlant a propos des choses ordinaires. Il chantait comme il vivait sa chanson.
