  • when u buy the helmet , what is included in the box?

  • @gunsRawesome The helmet will include all the interior cushioning, obviously, as well as the chin strap. Facemask is sold separately, unless you buy it together and have the dealer attach the faceguard.

  • Hey I was wondering what my proper helmet size is? I went to my local store but the people there were all in their teens and were not helpful at all..i have worn the dna in the past and my helmet size is LARGE but when i tried the ion large everythung fit perfectly but the faceguard is right across my eyes and when I try the XL it was way too big. Any Suggestions? - Cameron

  • @CDawkinz Please see the fitting video for the ION 4D helmet Cameron. It's right here on our YouTube channel. That will give the specific instructions on how to fit the helmet.

As far as the large vs XL, we always first try to fit into the smaller size. If the helmet fits properly, we'd recommend using a different style faceguard. Make sure you've properly fit the helmet, as far as placement on the head, air into the liners, etc. If you can't make the medium fit, we'd then go into the XL

  • Hi schutt sports, im planning on buying an ION 4D, im in Mexico but someone will buy it for me in Dallas, i would like to now where i can fit the helmet (inflation and all that) here

  • Hi, i just bought the ION 4D helmet , with the EGOP2 facemask, and i was asking myself that if the bars that are just right of each eye won`t disturb my vision to catch the ball. I play tight end position. PLEASE i need your recomendations i haven`t used it so i can still change the facemask.

  • @Rikachu05 We'd recommend the ION-ROPO series of faceguards. They won't have the vertical bars you're referring to. You'll have unobstructed vision. You can see all of the available faceguards on our website.

  • @JuMpMaN23x3 We have over a dozen faceguards available for the ION 4D, including an ROPO or EGOP-II that would be ideal for running backs. You can get all of the details of the ION 4D by watching these videos, if you haven't already.

  • @JuMpMaN23x3 Using a helmet with traditional foam padding (the same type of padding that's been used for the past 30 years) can be compared to wrapping your head in a blanket of insulation. The ION 4D does a better job of allowing air to circulate, allowing your body to better cool itself.

Plus the Energy Wedge faceguard acts as shock absorber for the helmet, absorbing up to 15% more impact on direct frontal impacts. >>> continued

  • @JuMpMaN23x3 It would be a great decision. Because of the TPU Cushioning in the ION 4D, the helmet gives you better impact absorption, better heat management and better hygienics. An independent research lab tested the ION 4D, as well as other helmets, including the Speed, for impact absorption in game-like conditions and the results show the Speed absorbs 12% less impact than the ION 4D. >> continued in the next post

  • Should the helmet be quite snug when fitted on my head with air?

  • @Offensivetackle65 In a word, yes. The helmet should be between a little uncomfortable and painful when it's fitted properly. Quite snug is a good way to put it. The helmet should not move or rotate on your head independently of your head. And you should have to pull out on the ear flaps a little bit in order to get the helmet on and off.

  • @Offensivetackle65 It's not supposed to be a weapon, man. That it's used as a weapon is beyond our control and 100% the decision of the player who decides to use it that way.

  • @SchuttSports Hahaha I know, I just hit a lot with my head. I completely respect the rules and parameters. I play Offensive line so i get a lot of helmet on helmet contact...Sorry if I disturbed the page Ill delete my original post.

  • @ loud humor: how big are you? Are you a freshman in HS or still in middle in school this year?

  • im 14 and i want to get an ion 4d but how do i know to get a youth or an adult hemet

  • @loudhumor Hey Sorry ... we missed your post. The major differences between the two helmets are the size of the jaw pads that are included and the chin strap that comes with it. So either one will do but we'd recommend the varsity version at your age. Hopefully, we're not too late in responding.

  • Since there are no visors currently manufactured specifically to fit the ION 4D, we can't recommend installing a visor on the ION 4D. THBS, thousands of players across the country, including Penn State, are putting visors on their IONs. If you search our facebook page you'll find a few guys who have successfully done so.

  • can you put a visor on this helmet?

  • does the helmet come with the air pump, needle, and glycerin?

  • @BlueBanana808 No unfortunately the helmet does not come with a pump, needle and glycerin. These can be purchased separately.

  • KILLSANITY88: At 7 1/2" you are right on the edge of going to a larger size but the problem is the ION does not come in an XL. You can deflate the liner by using a specific Schutt helmet pump (coach will have) and deflating all of the air out. With all the air out it will provide you the comfort you need and will accommodate a 7 1/2" head size.

  • @SchuttSports does this helmet have a different design than the original ion? because i have the first one and even fully deflated it is still very snug in my head to the extent of discomfort. and is the shell a different size/shape, because it seemed abnormally large

  • I didn't want to get an XL cause those go up to 8" heads and that would be too large i think...

  • I have a large Ion 4d and my head is a 7 1/2 inches but it fits too tight, is there anything i can get for the inside to replace the bulky pads... maybe it ships pumped a little bit, i should try to drail all the air out...?

  • basketballCHICKEN: It depends on the date of the inventory from the dealer. If he has an older version then it has a "Pin Prick" or small dimple that shows you exactly where you need to drill for the chin strap snap. If it's a new version then the 4PT high chin snap is already there. Either way you'll be able to easily convert or have a 4PT high.

  • where can you get an ion 4d helmet with high chin strap hook ups???? usaullay they come with low chinstrap hookups

  • ramefan951: Sorry moving forward the larger bumper is what is what will be on all new models. The smaller one had a tendency to slip to the inside of the shell

  • ramefan951: That's just a different design that secures the liner in place and shows our logo more prominently.

  • oooohh ok

just for feedback i like the older one

    anyway u can choose?

  • ramefan951: The ION has a faceguard retainer opposed to a traditional nose bumper. It allows the faceguard to fit closer to the shell and energy wedge to work effectively in absorbing up to 15% more impact.

  • oh no sorry i mean the bumper on the back that says schutt just wanna know why it looks different

  • spartandline56: Currently, Schutt Sports does not make a visor for the Schutt ION4D. We know of no other company that makes a visor that fits an Schutt ION4D without alteration. We have seen some Schutt ION4D helmets with visors installed. To the best of our knowledge, those visors have been modified by their users, not by the visor manufacturers, to fit the Schutt ION4D. We do not recommend altering a manufacturers product to fit the Schutt ION4D.

  • can you put a visor on this helmet with the rjop dw facemask

  • spartandline56: Yes our current production of the ION includes the chin strap snap on the top for a 4PT high hook-up. Earlier versions have a "pin-prick" that show you exactly where you need drill for the chin strap snap.

  • does this helmet come with a high hook up button

  • ramefan951: if it's an ION it should have the back bumper with the Schutt Logo because the bumper is attached to the back liner. Make sure it didn't seep into the inside of the back.

  • oh its actually a dna sorry but its not a bumper like that it just goes under the padding that sticks out the bottom if thats how u explain it right

but i got a new ion helmet n now the bumper looks different any reason y?

  • hey this is a stupid question but that lil thing on the back of the helmet that says schutt isnt on mine i got mine frm my school does that mean anything

like is it newer or sumthn

  • The dicision you are trying to make is nto a good one. The x1 is much heavier and schutt has proven to be a much safer helmet with the impact testing.also the xenith doesnt have a cooler design. its a basic traditional shell with a new padding interior just like the schutt XP. if you want something that looks cool and out performs everything out there get the ION and dont listen to the haters.. you will have the guys that say DONT BUY SCHUTT.thyre wrong Buy an ION 4d and u wont be disappointed.

  • where can i buy those small shoulder pads that guy had on when he was fitting his helmet

  • they are game-day shirts. they go under your regular shoulder pads

  • where could i buy one

  • your local sporting goods store. Dicks, Sports Authority etc.

  • i was going to get this helmet but ive been told that the xenith x1 is better fitting and a cooler deign ive looked at both and cant make a decsion

  • Thanks man I was trying to choose between the ION 4D and Air XP, now you have me choosing between these and the Xenith.

  • sory but the xenith isnt all that great n its way overpriced so just go with this
