  • Good shit and nice hustle yo. Inspired.

  • Yo give you props you sound amazing i like this very much =D :) im a drummer without a drum set i used to play for my 8th grade band but then yeah i couldn't afford drums but i still have spirit in learning drums one day :)

  • A man who relearns to play the drums (this well) before reading and writing, is one hell of a drummer. You sir, are an inspiration.

  • @billycanty =/ damn dude... You got my respect and I really like how you play.=)

  • Why did the guy attack you?

  • @roger201288 The guy "Ryan Dillow" and his brother attacked the singer of my band after a show. I tried to break up the fight. Ryan Dillow being the pussy that he is, jumped me from behind and got me to the floor. After hitting me for awhile, he went and sat at the bar. I got up and confronted him like a man, face to face. Then I dropped his ass with one punch. I got kicked out the bar. Later I turned my back, and he came out the door with a bar stool and hit me in the head. Pussy ass coward.

  • Off the fuckin' hook! Buddy should have lived to see this guy.

  • I hope got had a good lawyer and you own the place now.

  • Slick!

  • DUDE ITS AWESOME

  • Pretty fucking impressive for someone who's undergone massive head trauma. I can't even do that without brain damage.

  • Dude, you wail !!

  • Congrats on not giving up and having such a great recovery. Truly impressive and inspiring!

  • you get all the respect in the world from me

  • How can he go so fast??? Are his drumsticks light weight or what is his training method?

  • @roger201288 The Moeller Method. Studied with Jim Chapin for 6 years. Get his video and look him up on youtube. It will change your life.

  • Oh god, I remember for my finale exam last year in the high school jazz band I had to do this song, and a drum solo. It was hard!!! This guy has some chops!!!

  • Holy crap...I feel very bad for you and what you went through but you definitly got your chops back in this video and I'm sure you're even better now. Great playing especially given what you had to overcome!

  • that camera is way too slow

  • May I ask what you did at 1:42?

  • Why would anyone down this video? You went through all that an still destroy the drums.... Oh, and I'm pretty sure you have the exact same Hi-hat as me, lol.

  • Your story is amazing... and you can drum this well? It's inspiring to say the least!

  • This is better than I could do

  • This just shows that driving, talking, and thinking are all temperate

  • Brilliant playing, man!

  • You are really a great drummer and worthy of esteem man. Best wishes from Istanbul.

  • Damn, you can't walk, drive or dress yourself but you can drum like that? I gotta say, you're one hell of a drummer man!!!

  • @thebeer006 Thanks. I can do all those things now. But was in the process of relearning alot when this was recorded. Ive been back playing professionally for a while now.

  • Don't take this the wrong why man but you are better play a drum solo with brain and spinal damage then I am just plan me lol I hope that makes sence.....

  • your awsome! I tried to do a jazz drum solo yesterday but i messed up and it sounded like crap! Where did u learn to do that?

  • You Rock...what a story....Im sorry you had to go thru that.

I think your an insperation periode...and I think you should OWN that freakin bar...! Check out my music "Ruinhayesband"...and I will also check you on FaceBook.

    Peace

    Joey

  • You kick ass man, I mean you are a true inspiration to any drummer that has any sense. You were dealt a bad hand and kept on kicking ass. You're not a famous name, but you're still out there playing for the love of the instrument. I wish I had just half the skill of you..

  • You got a double kick, or are the toms just tuned pretty tight? It's so fast I can't even tell. Great job!

  • Nice chops! You need to be a latin jazz player. You would be sick!

  • @EliteSlime Thanks! I have done alot of latin jazz in Florida sessions. But I live in South Bend, Indiana now! This is the most non-latin, non- jazz , non- musicial place that I have ever lived. Im lucky that I even have a gig playing top 40 covers in this shit hole musicial void of a town.

  • @billycanty move to chi town, bro they need ppl like you

  • I've been playing for years, and I only wish I could play that well. Thanks for playing!!!

  • I'd buy a gun a shoot the stupid bitch in his head

  • The most inspiring drummer alive... Where are you Billy? I am in Cape Coral waiting for your return to the buckingham blues bar... Are you still in Chicago?

    -Ryan

  • Did you file suit against the bar or the guy or anything?

  • I've been drumming on & off for years and that was possibly the best drumming i've ever seen. Then i read about the cowardly attack on you and what you've gone thru and was astonished to read this came after the attack. Thats amazing man well done.

  • If you can play Jazz, you can play anything

  • I thought you sounded good, sir. I thought maybe you were putting us on, because you sounded very good. I usually do not like speed solos, but that was tastefully done. I am a drummer. I also thought you may have done this before you were injured.

  • That was pretty awesome for someone who is bouncing back from getting jumped, which by the way sucks & sorry to hear. I've been in a band or 2 myself & I know the feeling of playing at a bar in front of a few hundred drunk people who couldn't give a shit less if you are there or not. But i am glad to see even after your attack that that has not stopped you one bit from drumming, it's good to see people like you drive on & not let anything stand in their way. Best of luck on future things to come

  • Wow....from one drummer to anther, I love your style! I think I need to buy Jim chapmin's book!

  • Wow....from one drummer to anther, I love your style! I think I need to buy Jim chapmin's book!

  • Yeah Billy, sorry to hear what you experienced in life, but looking at your video, all I can say as a drummer, you still are amazing and I really liked your grove and fills, and more than that, you are one outstanding person and a real encouragement to not only drummer but to anyone who gave up on life...

My hats of to you, and I wish you all the very best...God Bless and Keep drumming your awesome.. dude...

  • Okay man, this is FANTASTIC. But, I have to say, I have a lot of respect for you just because you relearned to play. Not everyone would do that. You are THE MAN!

  • Fast, clean, complicated and cool. Excellent. I listen over and over. Great left hand accenting. Good stuff.

  • Dam dude! That sucks that you almost died because that guy decided to attack you and much respect for learning it all again!

  • What's the name of the song you were playin here?

  • Wow. Given your condition, just makes it that much more inspirational.

  • Hey man! Really love your drumming!

  • What a great Drummer!

Dream Theater is looking for a new drummer, maybe Bill Canty likes to play with them ^^

I give you big props for this ;)

P.S.: i'd like to seriously start learning Jazz Drumming, Anyone could advice me where to start,(which tracks to cover etc?) i've been drumming for 3 years so i think i have the basics ^^

    Keep on playing Billy :)

  • @billycanty

i meant about the dudes who fought you

  • @billycanty

    dude wow thats gay.

  • lol i can really appreaciate that drumming ALOT like fuck wow but that music is so poofy, that bass line thing and random guitar solo shit....i can't stand it. soz if anyone here really loves it but as any drummer would understand all people like different styles and play different styles. just how it is.

  • @tjdrummer13 you should try and give jazz a chance. There are alot of sick jazz musicians out there that will inspire you. Check out Steve Coleman.

  • @billycanty sure, i'll have a look.

  • @billycanty like buddy rich c: , i really like jazz , and i like ur drumming a lot pretty nice

  • @tjdrummer13 What's wrong with you? If you were a real drummer you would appreciate jazz. I used to hate jazz as well, but then i got into jazz drumming, which made me want to play jazz a lot. And that "poofy" music is actually pretty tough to play.. so yeah. lol

  • @tjdrummer13 thats the beauty of jazz. love it or hate it :)

  • @tjdrummer13 Improv in real time is fucking hard mate. Jazz drumming is technically much harder than rock. Rock is all 4/4 time....not jazz. Way more insane.

  • @tjdrummer13 jazz bass lines are insanely complex, and jazz is all about improvised soloing. Only sounds poofy to people who don't know how to listen. The beauty of jazz lies in the crazy complex chord layouts, which are often much darker than the 4-6 bar phrases of major and minor chords that rock uses. shredding over 4 chords is easy. composing a melody on the fly over 12-20 bar phrases w/ chords that aren't so obvious is what puts jazz on a whole other level. Also: great solo billy

  • Very good! I just stumbled upon your channel recently and subscribed.. I really like your style. I thank God he gifted you and now you are sharing it with the rest of us. Keep it up dude, your story and playing are an inspiration to us all !

  • Oh. My. God.

  • i would be happy if i could play the half of it man..you are great..

  • thats was fucking amazing!

  • wow. ur story is amazing and ur a better drummer than me! lol so what was the motive for the attack? or was the guy just really drunk? anyways, great job, and keep playing! God bless =)

  • SUPER... i really enjoyed it.

  • dude you are absolutely incredible,

    you're an inspiration!

  • You are amazing. Why did that man attack you?

  • Two drunk dumbasses had a issue with the singer in my band. They jumped him after our show. I broke up the fight. One of them jumped me from behind and then attacked me again later outside from behind again with a barstool. What a pussy! Both times he didn't have the balls to stand up to me face to face.

  • Then he was not a man.

  • @billycanty

    =O fucking pussies...

btw you're a fuckin sweet drummer mate, keep going \m/ \m/

  • @billycanty I know This will sound cheesy but: YOU ARE A MOt** Fu* MAN WITH HUGE B*LLS to stand up on your feet and retake the path!!! You are great!! you are an inspiration.

  • you have mad chops and coordination

  • Very cool. Jazz drumming is like a foreign language within drumming to me. and that sounded brilliant

  • they seemed to enjoy ur drum solo, i could here a few ppl shouting.

    ur awesome!!!!!!

  • dude,

    your a killer.

  • killer

  • condition or not this is great

  • wow, amazing.

i can't even play half as well as you.

Regardless of what life has dished out to you...you have perservered * however you spell that word* and here is one old cat who loved what you played...Smokin Hot ~~~

  • Great playing BILLY good to see you are overcomming the obstacles I can relate as I was In a car accideny in 2000 luckily not as serious as yours sounds I had to re evolve my enire playing since then

YES bars can be a pain I always have a pair of PWB Aluminu,m sticks just in case.

I hope you get a good settlement

    God Bless

    Tim

  • Of all the drummers I have ever watched, listened to, or learned from, you have chewed up and spit out every single one of them. You are one of my greatest inspirations and I cant think of what I wouldnt give to meet you. Thanks for all of the inspiration, and keep making those crazy beats!

    God bless.

  • This is osm uve got very good rhythm

    were did u go wrong?

    XD

  • Where did I go wrong? Playing I a shit cover band in a shit bar for too many years. I do play bars anymore since I was hurt in 2005. Unless it's original and national act at a respected establishment. I rather teach drums and make twice the money in an hour instead of playing other peoples shit for $100.00 a night to a bunch of annoying drunks who don't care that your even on stage.

That almost got me killed. I still am in physical therapy from my injury!

  • you are truly amazing. playing with your heart, that's the spirit! thank you :)

  • if we consider your condition, you did a great job dude. I appreciate it! Im also a drummer and I think you are quite good, especially in your condition.

  • truly inspiring

  • Did you even read the description? Either way you're a troll or an asshole.

  • Bro, its slimy fucks like you that make my spine shift and my blood boil.

  • are you expecting some sort of an answer?....

  • @czervick212

nah not really just i dont like trolls like

    bearhere1991, but no not really

  • You really suck, this man is very cool, and you giving that comment, and why you say it?, you dont really know about the drums, only people like you have that comment

  • No, you need to get some sense, learn how to spell, & you need to stop sayin' that kinda crap about people, especially since he's handicapped, I bet you couldn't play that good if you were in 100% top physical condition

  • @bearhere1991 because he is nearly disabled?

  • dude, you did that handicapped? you are an insperation.

  • dude for being handicapped and to be able to do that you are beyond amazing! there are many drums who have no disabilities at all and cant play half as well as that. great job keep it up!

  • This is one of the best drum solos I've ever seen. No joke.

  • hey man nice video it is very good and im not just saying that coz u got attacked it is very good nice rolls and fills and the solo part outstnding man ps.. im very sori about u getting attacked the guy who hurt u kan go hell

  • Very nice!!

  • took 3 years working the drums. playing death metal. recently became interested in jazz. and I think your story is a true inspiration. and your playing! you're great!

forgiveness for the translation. I did it with the google translator.

    I wish you the best.

    From Argentina

  • Very good man

Ive been drumming to heavy stuff like the rev in avenged sevenfold

but im going to try to learn to jazz solo like this

    way to go man!

  • Billy, you´re one of the best! I don´t know who could say that´s not true.

We should learn from people like you.

    Thank you

  • Billy, I am a drummer myself and have been since I was 6 years old. This is fantastic work and you have a truly inspiring story. You have a unique and very advanced talent. Keep rockin, and God bless you

  • What I see here is 100% talent.

I've been playing drums for almost two years now, and I'm not eaven CLOSE to this. I know I'm not the right person to say this, as I've never experienced such thing as that, but KEEP FIGHTING. You've reached grand heights, despite the fact that you recieved (I'm sorry if I'm wrong) some kind of brain injury.

It's people like you that shows that no matter how hard you fall, you'll have to shrug it off and get back up. You are and will for evere be my #1 idol!

  • you're kidding about the injury, right? that was one of the most amizing, and consistent, jazz solos i've ever heard. it was pretty tight bro. keep it up. glad to know you didnt succumb to depression and youre still out there

  • It's true but in the past. I wasn't about to let some piece of shit take my ability to play drums away.

  • @billycanty Great to hear that bro and hope you're still jammin'. I still watch this video when I come across youtube. It still inspires and amazes the hell outta me

  • hey billy good work it is me U2plan

  • awesome!!

  • great solo

  • good luck man

  • hear the drummer get wicked

  • dude awsome solo snares real nice and poppy but dam dude why did he just attack you? that would be horrible but im learning drums and i think your learning drums from the second you pick the sticks up you dont really stop

  • He actually attacked my singer and I broke up the fight. That's when it all went to shit for me.

  • Awesome

  • Is the song actually supposed to be John Coltran's Impressions with a different stylistic approach, or is the head, or background, supposed to be based on it like Lester Leaps In is based on I've got music?

  • Impressions

  • WOAH why were you attacked so savagely? Anyways keep on keepin on man. You're a wicked player!!

  • dude, ur my inspiration

  • A real lesson, in more ways than one! Walking, talking and dressing myself? Nah, they can wait...tell me more about those 'drumstick' things! Love it!

  • damn brilliant!!! even though I havn't sufferd any injuries, exept my wrist wich won't move correctyl anymore, I could not play like that for thousend years! amazing!

  • Congrats, man!

    Awesome spirit and playing!!!

  • fuckin dynamite. congrats

  • that was insane!!! 5/5

  • Great man, way to overcome all that. Great character

  • Thanks dude. But I have to be honest. For the lat two years, I've been a whiney little pussy. After dealing with the emotional tole that this has brought on me I have unknowingly became a hateful whiney little bitch. " poor me, I have a disability." Anyway if there is anything that I can teach from this experience, it is to love your life and give thanks every day to what you have. Love yourself and practice hard. It WILL pay off. Finally, No one can break you, if you believe in yourself.

  • if i get hit in the head with a stool and fall down some stairs will i be that good? im getting my first set soon, any advice?

  • Great! Keep it up!

  • There's nothing more hardcore than jazz drums!

  • damn, from 2:10 till the end of the video is awesome!!! great solo!!

how long have you been playing drums?

I've started just 2 weeks ago and I hope I can play solos like this...

    congratulations dude

  • Cool! Watch and learn from all the old cats. Then learn from all of the modern monsters like vinne, Thomas Lang , mike mangini, etc. Then forget all of it and BE YOURSELF! If anyone tells you to do it like so and so. Tell them to fuck offf!

  • Billy, hope the shocking story in the info about this clip wasn't true. If it was - I'm very glad all is in the past and you are safe and sound. All the best!

  • you are amazing, real great playing man!

    definite respect!!!

  • that solo was the best i've ever heard. it tops any hardcore rock, metal, or any other music drum solo ever.

  • This is the most hardass video on youtube if it's taken in context.

  • respect, Mr Canty, respect.

  • Great!

  • just favorited ur vid.. amazing solo, great swing, and enormous courage.. respect!

  • Amazing, you're a real inspiration and a brilliant drummer.

  • that was actually one of the sickest solos I've ever heard, I mean when it comes to just going mad! great stuff :)

  • the chops sound fine not all over the place in my opnion

  • as soon as you recover you should go stab that bitch

plus your playing is awesome, keep up the good work.
