  • yes, Doyle is a fine Christian man.

  • is he christian?

  • truly aaaaannnnnnnoooooooiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnttttttttteeeeeeeeeddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW! I have goose bumps all over.

  • correction : Mark Knopfler

  • Doyle is #3 on personal list of all time greatest "finger pickers". Who's the other 4? I 'm glad you asked. #1- The great Chet Atkins, #2- Nato Lima, #3 Doyle Dykes, #4 Tommy Emanuel, #5- Mark Knopfley

  • Praise God!

    Goose bumps all over!

  • Great arrangement, and there is a sensitive & emotional harmony in the verse with lot of beatiful voice leading ! one of the great work for guitar ! Bravo !

  • Bravo!

  • Incredible player and great tune from an amazing guitar, but that piezo-like metallic amp tone is not working for me. That guitar sounds fantastic just acoustically.

  • Very beautiful. Thank You, Lord for everything You have given us through music.

  • Bravo!!!!!!

  • You're an Excellent player, I'd lose the Rivera though.

  • @gtrhero100 the rivera is his guitar...with his name as the brand.. If Taylor made a guitar with my name on it, I would definitely play it every second of every day.

  • @jbfoster20 The guitar is a Doyle Dykes Signature Taylor the amp is the Rivera. He is a factory player rep for Taylor Guitars.

  • You awesome

  • there are 0 dislikes on this video for a good reason!

  • Hey Doyle - How great thou art indeed! I'm sure the Lord wouldn't mind me saying that ! - Have a great Christmas! - You & Yours!

  • Doyle's a great guitar, but all of the pickups he's using in the different videos make the guitar sound thin and thwappy - no bottom end.

Imagine how good the playing would sound with a warmer tone and some bottom-end that would wrap itself around your ears.

  • I love how Doyle makes his guitar sound like an orchestra. Immensely powerful!

  • I remember when I saw Doyle when I was 17 back in 1997

  • Amen i love this song and also guitar playing Amen!

  • Sooooooooooooooo Sweetly done. I've been playing 20 years, still haven't learned how to play with such expression. Thank you for sharing.

  • Great job....RiflemanRay

  • I'm sure we listen to it here in the states because we love swedish music, not because we here it at Church all the time.

  • It's a swedish folk melody, without the words it has no religious connotation as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely beautiful....

  • Praise the Lord. try my new video just type "How great Thou art (by Hezekiah)" i'm using 'Sape' the Boat Lute from Borneo to play this song.

  • that's awesome! :)

  • WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT (randomwhiteguy8784)? THAT WAS SPECTACULAR! He is awesome...

  • i am moved to tears.

  • I can't say I didn't enjoy this I loved it but it was a little too much of him going off on his own little world just playing the song the way it was meant to be played would have been good enough I give you a 7 out of 10 it was good but just a little to wild for that particular song you know

  • god is with you my brother, lets keep gods work going.

  • Blessed be!!!

  • i could literally watch Doyle play all day long..to me he has the passion and the chops to express what he is feeling!!! i saw him play at GC in Pleasant Hill Ca. back in 1998 or so.....with LJ they were phenominal i couldnot get his autograph due to so many folks trying to do the same!

  • LOL, my thoughts exactly!

  • Why don't you wait someplace else

  • Just beautiful, this hymn always reminds me how god really controls everything in life, and even though I dont stop and thank him as often as I should I know he is there.

  • @ipodjunkie5

"controls everything"? Then I guess I can blame him if my life sucks.

  • Unglaublich !!!!!!!!

    Der Hammer !!

  • I am, therefore He is.

  • Wonderfull guitar player !!

  • Oh...and in response to the first reply you made about Doyle getting his talents from the Lord...If you ever go to one of his shows, he always tells how that he, once born again, asked God to bless him with some talent so that he could use it to tell people of what a great God he serves, wherever he goes. Thats probably why freddierap said what he did. I even think that he is quoted on one of the videos on youtube saying that.

I'll find it and post it in a reply.

  • Okay its:

Doyle Dykes - How Great Thou Art with Intro

  • WOW!!!!!!! that was pure awesomeness!

  • Always a pleasure to hear Doyle play, God has given him an outstanding talent.

  • I don't know about "god" ... I suspect the combined genetic contributions of his parents had something to do with where he got his natural talent. I'm not trying to be rude I just don't know how you could know that he got his talent from "god" when there is no evidence for such an assumption. Why do you believe that? Do you think there really is a "God" or are you just using that phrase as sort of a poetic expression?

  • Doyle gives credit for his talent to Jesus Christ; if you hear Doyle perform he is bold for Jesus. The Holy Bible (proven the most historically accurate book) teaches our talents are from God, studying Gods word will change your life. I know you believe Jesus lived, todays date acknowledges Jesus was born 2008 years ago, yep even the date is based on Christ's birth. God is real and gives us free will to accept or reject Him; I hope you come to know that He came because of His love for you & me.

  • Although I agree Doyle gives Jesus credit, that's not relevant to my question. The next statement you made is entirely false. The Bible is so inaccurate it's silly. Did Noah collect over 10 billion species onto his boat and then after a flood, redistribute them around to every continent? Where'd he get all the millions of petri dishes to store all that bacteria? Did he redistribute all the worms he collected back into the soil? Were the animals just not hungry while on the boat? It's silly.

  • The Bible doesnt tell us how Noah did what he did, but it does say that he was 600 years, two months and 17 days old when the flood began. Thats certainly enough time to collect some animals. And before you attempt to argue, if we have the right to believe that god created the universe, is it not just as believable to think that he could have allowed noah to collect some animals or live 700 years? Would that really be all that difficult for an all powerful god? I choose to think not.

  • I agree you DO have "the right to believe god created the universe" but that doesn't make it true/rational. You have a "right" to believe anything!! But if you believe god exists without evidence then NOTHING, including the Noah story, is too absurd for you because you have "faith". Once you decide "faith" is all the logic you need to believe, then you're like a child who "just knows" Santa's real and Santa can do anything. Noah collected 10 billion species, Santa delivered 10 billion gifts.

  • Im not saying that I have no proof, im saying that one is not any more unbelievable than the other. My point was that most people are accustomed to hearing the belief that God is the creator of all things, and many people generally accept that. But those same people, when they hear of a man living for 700 years, say "thats stupid", or whatever. But my proof is all around me. It is the world in which we live, and the savior that is in my heart.

Im going to continue in the next post...

  • It is the peace which passeth all understanding when i kneel in prayer and ask God for help to get me through a hard time. It is the Bible, which is perfect in all ways, and which was spoken by the Lord himself; and written down, collected, and pieced together by the inspiration of God.

All of this evidence is very clear. All it takes is a desire to know the absolute truth, and an open mind to accept it when you find it.

  • Okay, thanks BubsGA7. Firstly, you do not have proof for god. I agree that one is not more believable than the other - they are both lacking evidence. Just because things exist doesn't mean that we can just explain it by saying "well it all must've come from god". There is no reason to assume that, even if it makes you feel better. If your evidence for god is what you see on earth, that is like saying "look at those gifts, they must've come from Santa".

    ...continued on the next post...

  • You must have not completely read what I wrote. Im not just relying on what is surrounding me. However I rely on the savior that is in my heart. That and that alone is all the proof that I need to confirm 100%, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what it is that I believe. If he's not in your heart, then you have no idea what it is that Im talking about.

    Continued...

  • Also to say that the idea of a "god" is lacking evidence is completely absurd. Creation itself, whether you say it is or not, IS evidence. Is it absolute proof--no; but no matter what stance you take, faith is going to be required at somepoint. What kind of argument trying to explain the existence of the world and human kind doesnt use faith?

  • BubsGA7, I should mention I DO have the desire to know truth. I used to be a Christian, a youth leader, and traveled across the world as an evangelist. But I later realized what I was brought up to believe was not supported by evidence but was something people just inherited from other people. People tend to think "since 'x' is comforting, 'x' must be true". If your comfort "passeth all understanding" you can't claim to know comfort comes from god. You need faith because you lack evidence.

  • You may have used to consider youself a Christian, but seeing where you are today, you must have never been a very good one. The "peace which passeth all understanding" doesn't refer to not understanding where it comes from. Rather, it refers to not knowing why such a righteous God would so willingly give his son to die on the cross, while we were yet sinners, so that we might have eternal life.

By the way, what is you explaination, and from where do you get your 'evidence'?

  • That peace also refers to not being able to understand how you could feel so comforted when, in times of trial. Case: when my grandmother died, i had no worry about her because i knew that she was going to heaven. Did we grieve, yes. But we are still comforted.

  • I agree that when someone dies it can make us feel better to believe. When I was a Christian, believing in god comforted me when someone in my family died a few years ago from leukemia. When we're young we can't doubt what we're told because we have to trust other people that seem to know more than us. Isn't it peculiar how 99% of children that claim to be of a particular religion just happen to have the same religion as their parents? I'm going to send you a message to show what I mean.
