What's this debate all about. Listen to the music and it says chill out.I have been straight, loaded on heroin, alcohol, Vaium, Coke, etc and the Pink Floyd message is still the same. Look at life as being in a movie just watching the video. Enjoy the video and groove with it, but by no means don't take it seriously or even worse fall into it, or make a drama out of it. Just experience it and chill. So cool. Get real.In the end it's only you. Wow
If the artist was in an altered state of mind when writing the music then the music deserves an altered state of mind when listening to it.... at least occasionally.
I got a trip me and my friends do. Next time you get high, play this song with earbuds or headphones(whichever you prefer is more comfortable), lay back, close your eyes, listen to this song and imagine a movie that has this whole song as the soundtrack... You're welcome

@dmayn1luv Not necessarily true ... one can be completely sober and still enjoy this type of legendary music. The MUSIC makes ME high. The MUSIC is my substance!
So you know how "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" says 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything? Well its not. The real answer is two words: Pink, and Floyd.
Dark side of the moon was written as a continuous uninterrupted bunch of sounds and songs, but all Pink Folyd had was vinyl LP and had to put it on 2 sides thus the only interruption in the series. When CD was developed, DSOTM was finally arranged the way it was meant to be.
@Sarasdad91 well on that note, they should have gotten together one last time while Richard Wright was still alive and made a CD. They could have utilized their awesome skills in being able to write albums as one track in one whole album. I love this album, I love the wall, I love everything I have heard of the floyd :)
@JustATadpole So true my friend. I used to smoke but have cut right down and have come to learn that one can be equally free when totally sober of all substances
@bearcataquatic Not gonna argue with that. To be honest though, I never listened/appreciated Floyd until my buddy and I had a relaxing smoke and he introduced me to their music. It is now my favorite thing to listen to if I have the occasional smoke.
you dont need to be high off your lazy ass to enjoy this song.. i heard it for the first time tonight and loved it and i wasnt stoned. that shit belongs in the ground, not your lungs dudes.
No matter what Decade it is their will always be good music. You just have to make an effort to dig deep for it. Dont go to the radio trying to find real music, or your next favorite band
@KVteam360 Drugs are a trend in all generations, It's why you take them that defines what trend you're in. I don't understand wht you're trying to say.
Officials say that they are aware of at least 20 mentally handicapped users spamming youtube. We're not sure of the volume of what's happening yet, but we have been informed that Pink Floyd has been affected by this terrible slobber-filled disaster.
This albumn bridged a very important gap back in it's day. It was number 1 on the Billboard pop charts and number 1 on the predomently black Downbeat charts. The only other artist to do the same, I believe was M.J.s Thriller, many years later. It's fusion of jazz and rock, may never happen again. But for one very sweet year, the races came together without even knowing it. I was on an aircraft carrier, and I could hear this album being played in all compartments of the ship. Amazing album.
I'll always like this song especially because the first time I got really high (or "baked", as you kids call it these days), I remember hearing it on an old 8-track tape.
With all the great music back in the early 70s, this Album was the buzz around town for Months and Months, Revolutionary actually, there was no one like Floyd.
@marybel0414 Us and Them is connected from the beginning with Money, and the song continues with Any Colour You Like. Pink Floyd intended for the album - each song - to be listened in succession. Buy a copy of the album and you'll see.
@foxontherails Yeppers! I love this album. I think of disc one as one long song and the second disc as one long song. Its so hard not to listen to the entire album at once, but I really wanted to listen to us and them haha. I <3 this album, it speaks to my soul.
This song is so amazing in so many ways, I can't describe it all at once. Just so soothing.....I listen to it sometimes when I can't fall asleep. So, yeah, who needs drugs (sleep-aids)?
Best album ever by them and it showed when it stayed on the Billboard Top 200 for, that's right, 14 years straight since it's relase, do you know of any other album doing that?

One of my very top all time favorite tune of every fricking time period I've ever listened to. Couldn't begin to count the times I've gotten stoned with this in the background. Then when I listen to it straight ... it's weird .. but it brings back the buzz and it's all through me, especially when the sax starts in. mmm mmm mmm
To all the people complaining about music being better back in these days, stop complaining and do something about it! Why don't you become the next Pink Floyd?
@AiRcAmErOn There is shitty music in all generations. Only the goodies are left untouched.
There are many equally good artists today. But, I admit, for people whose favorite genre is "Classic Rock" it may be hard to find new bands in that genre. But there still are, don't illude yourself. Graveyard for an instance.
@AiRcAmErOn Its not that easy mate, there are bands like pink floyd out there but its the record labels that decides whats hot and whats not. Our lives are being controlled by mega corporations. Hence all the crappy music on the tv/radio.
You're perfectly right. Despite being a big chalenge, it would be great if some band could pop up and make something at least similar to Pink Floyd did.
The day I retire and am no longer randomly drug tested at work I'm going to buy a large bag of weed, sit back on my couch, and listen to this entire album....
Only tasteless fools require drugs to enjoy and respect Pink Floyd. Most of the music listened to in the 21st century is done by musicians with far less talent and listened to by people far more sober than most Floyd fans, unfortunately.
For as much as we'd love to say "Pink Floyd never gets old" or "I'll never get tired of it",we're still human. Some folks eventually did get tired of listening to the same track for 40 years.I know I did.
Drugs bypass the filter of time and ordinary reality.Notes that have been long rusted to your ears assume dimension, depth and feeling.heck, there are layers that you didn't even know were there.
@yofera50 I'm not saying it doesn't get old to some people. But, as long as armies fight, this song will remain relevant. The point is, stop hijacking actual talent and attributing it to drugs.
Give the unique gift or rare 70s classic rock for the holidays!
Pink Floyd Live in Oakland 1977 3-disc 2CD/DVD set and Pink Floyd The Wall Live at Earl's Court 1980 DVD available at Tommygun Video please see our Youtube channel for link to web site/video and audio clips/more info
People are convinced drugs are a part of the Pink Floyd Experience, but really all you need is two things; Pink, and Floyd. You don't need to be high to enjoy them and it can't POSSIBLY make it better because there is nothing better than Pink Floyd.
Thos who says music is making them high clearly never experienced the phenomen of bein actually high. I'm not hatin'. May Pink Floyd live Forever.

Perhaps Pink Floyd is unique in what they have done. They have captured time and everything they made seems to be time proof.

The day I retire and am no longer randomly drug tested at work I'm going to buy a large bag of weed, sit back on my couch, and listen to this entire album....

The first time I listened this song was the first time I cried while listening music.

Have you ever noticed how the only music that gets attributed to drug culture since the 1960's is music that actually says things politically?
LeftBehindForDead 1 month ago
Only tasteless fools require drugs to enjoy and respect Pink Floyd. Most of the music listened to in the 21st century is done by musicians with far less talent and listened to by people far more sober than most Floyd fans, unfortunately.

@LeftBehindForDead You do not understand the concept behind drugs&music

Dick Parry did a beautiful job on this track

People are convinced drugs are a part of the Pink Floyd Experience, but really all you need is two things; Pink, and Floyd. You don't need to be high to enjoy them and it can't POSSIBLY make it better because there is nothing better than Pink Floyd.
