  • This is a real performance (not lip sync) they sounded FANTASTIC.

  • Well what can I say I WAS IN THAT VIDEO!!!! YAH NO KIDDING...I was driving the boat...they arrived at our campground in a stretch limo....and John Candy was there at 7 in the morning....hung over...took me 25 years to find this video.....STILL have the autographed record from the band...all wraped in a plastic sheath....just have to ask mom where it is?...

  • @nfontaine100 Seriously!? Very cool! :)

  • @nfontaine100 That's awesome! Thanks for sharing!

  • Did you hear him say: "Coming from you tubes"???

  • "looks small, but goes down 400 feet, sleeps 800"... Classic. One great clip here! RIP John Candy, miss you man!

  • Ah, punk rock and Canadian comedy. A win win for the Stanley cup of international laughs.

  • Man, thanks so much! I remember watching this during a sleepover in 6th grade. I still talk about it to this day! Long live GIL!

  • @lpfreak3313 You're very welcome! (It was an old tape - LOL!). 6th grade!!

  • I saw this way back in the day, and I've been a Tubes fan ever since! Thanks for posting this.

  • I really liked it that unlike SNL stopped the show and and introduced the musical guest and had them perform SCTV actually made the musical guest part of the show with them appearing as part of the skit

  • Shore lunch with the tubes.

  • "Goes down 400 feet, sleeps 800" LOL!

  • @houstonphotografx I remember that line from the first time I saw this one. It still cracks me up.

  • as a fan of comedy and a deadhead its cool to see them in the same boat

  • R.I.P John Candy and Vince Welnick i miss you both

  • Live in Toronto,Canada at SCTV!!!! I saw this on the t.v. the week dear John Candy shot it with the boyos...

    Thanks,

    Gemma Hugs

  • Cripes I will never know how you got this from 30 years ago, but we all remember it well...

    Gemma

    Toronto

Even the Wendy O Williams part...sad she blew her brains out with a .45

  • I love how they still wore there stage outfits even when they went fishing. :-)

  • Thank you! This is my favorite SCTV skit.

  • @1loons Very welcome - but I think there's a better copy posted somewhere, LOL.

  • @1loons Mine too.

  • Love this version of Sushi Girl. It's close to the studio made song. Thanks for posting!

  • @combatvf24 No prob - thanks.

  • Check out 1:10 Gill Fisher says '..coming from youtube....' Wow this is back in '81

how could he have forseen the future and known he'd be on youtube?

    Weird or what?

  • LOL! Another great one. Thank you so much for posting these! :-) It's probably been 20 years since I have seen these old episodes.

  • @SilverstoneZED Very welcome!

  • this was awesome. I remember watching this when it first aired. Candy was brilliant!

  • Part 1

  • i was living in toronto when i first saw this......farging grrrreat

  • This is so fucking awesome on so fucking many levels. 1981, Tubes in Oshkosh, so bizarre.

Why don't you hold onto this...

    Fee Waybill is Buddah!

  • Always loved that character point; Gil Fisher was devoted to fishing but allergic to eating fish.

  • I HAVE THIS ON DVD! >.<

  • The lodge "looks small, but it goes down 400 feet, sleeps 800." I LOVED this when I was a kid, and it's just as funny now--thanks for posting!

  • i remember this from way back when. it was the first time i heard the Tubes i later saw them live and they are still a staple in my Music collection. its amazing how many ALT rockers were influenced by them. WE MISS THEM AND JOHN CANDY

  • never seen this one before. pretty cool. rip john candy and vince welnick.

  • That Willie Nelson lookin' fella got us stuck in the reeds. I was so mad. This stuff is cla

  • Loved SCTV. Loved John Candy. Loved Gil Fisher. Loved The Tubes. And loved how they got all these great bands to play along...

But I think the best Fishin' Musician sketch was the one with Wendy O. Williams and The Plasmatics that they mention at the end. Over 20 years later, and it still cracks me up... (Sadly, that one doesn't seem to be here on YT...?) That's where I learned to take Gil's advice, and never explore caves in Canada, because... "Yep! There's gorillas in there!"

  • i love the fishin musician

  • Wasn't there an episode of the fishin musician where they go fishing from a hot air balloon?

  • Just the best!! Music and comedy.. perfect!

  • The Tubes first album 'The Tubes' is a very very good album!

After several listenings it's really a fantastic piece of art!!!

  • Saw this when it aired and turned me on to the Tubes - great to see it again. Thanks for the post!!! Can't believe it's been over 28 years.

  • You're welcome! Sorry about the quality, but, y'know, old videotapes, old VCR's, etc. etc. And I also loved "Sushi Girl" when I first saw it!

  • The "Fishin' Musician" character had the same basis as the "Red Green" character played by Steve Smith.

  • Darn that Willie Nelson guy! LOL!

  • "Well, comin' from YOU TUBES, that's somethin' special ..."

  • If there was ever a band in rock history that was more fun to watch than these guys, I don't know who. (The same could be said about performers in comedy history and John Candy, too.)

And tight? Rehearsed? Musically accomplished? To an almost unbelievable degree.

  • @tuxguys You said it. Gone are the days of bands with REAL musicians like the Tubes. They were sleek and sophisticated. AND hilarious.

  • Is this skit available on any of their DVD boxsets?

  • Yes it does I have it is on Volume 1 ofSCTV.Get it it is fantastic.

  • Thanks, usisguy. I'll try to track that down a.s.a.p.! Damn, I miss SCTV!

  • Anytime Judges. They have it in F.Y.E. stores usually, if you get we you live I am from NYC-Queens.This was the episode when Lola Heatherton got her special cancelled.

  • One of the high points of western civilization, definately! ;)
