This is pretty ruthless. I suppose this type of killing could be acceptable,IF, it was eradication - like ridding an area of a harmful feral species, or if it were the only way to take down a killer. Otherwise, I just can't imagine anyone calling this hunting, or being proud of any animal that was taken in this way.
Sadly cheque book hunting is becoming more prevalent in NZ. Unfortunately for Americans they are largely blamed for this kind of hunting: due to being older, wealthier folk who have made their money but are no longer (if ever) fit enough to chase them by foot in the NZ wilds. Taklng an aggressive stance towards tourists is wrong; NZ operators are willing to provide the service in the pursuit of the mighty dollar. This is no doubt wrong, but please work together sensibly - this is not hunting!
I am an American and a life long hunter. i find the hunting of animals from helicopters a disgrace. The sooner this travesty is ended the better. No animal deserves to be taken in such a manner.
It's all good to support ethical hunting . But why must you blame Americans for what you don't support. Are Americans the only hunters allowed to do this.
@freeRguns Hi Mate, the answer to why Americans get the blame, is that those participating who are American make up 70% of the market, with the remaining 30% being Australian. Other nations don't register as a percentage.
wasn't sure weather to like or dis like this love the depiction of heli hunting hate heli hunting it self. in my opinion there is a reason we call it hunting and not shooting i would never take part in this and dont want to have any thing to do with people who would even consider this to be sport it is sick and unsporting you dident defeat the animal in any way the machine did and you should be ashamed to keep any trophy that was heli hunted grow some balls and fucking hunt cowards
I saw the same thing happen on the West Coast in 2003. Apparently you can now get a permit to do this! Officially unethical! And are the hunters now going to tell their children with pride? Erik Kamman, the old Dane.
this is bad !!!!!! this is not hunting or even sporting.... i dont mind the use of helli for spotting but get out and fukken walk u!!!!!! fat fukks!!! i had the plessure of hunting a thar in n.z it was all about the walking and camping and all that!!!
the nicest plase iv been to... and if i had not got a thar i wud not of used a helli id just say fair play... ya thar ya got me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heli hunting, its no fun its like a game but cheating. The animals dont get a chance to get away or any thing but in 'Hunting' you get the chance to stalk animal's and see their natural habbitat,. And you get do enjoy the great outdoors.
do many chopper get shot at when doing this ? i know i would fell inclined to.....
should get in a choper and drop the fat lazy cunts off and make them run for there lifes untill thay carnt run no more. then get shot with shot guns to make them stop moveing then put a 308 in them. only choper hunttingu should do is to be droped off way in the the bush then walk out ova 3-4 days.....
All though i don't condone this.I can sort've understand both parties point of view number 1 the ground hunters have'nt got a spare 1.300.000.000 million ping pings to get them a guranteed hot wildgame roast before for dinner and be home to hang the washing out and mow the lawns. And the yanks come over here with there deep pockets full of green backs and dead presidents the chopper pilots not gonna say No is he?its a cruel world we live in. but i still think this is unfair.
This is not hunting, its shooting an animal that has been rounded-up for the shooter, not hunter, to the trigger puller not a hunter. This is not stalking an animal, this is not puting yourself in the animals domain, this is not you testing your skills, this is not hunting. You are not professional guides, your glorified cowboys mustering up stock to be shot, you are not hunters, gun slingers paying to have an animal put infront of you to be shot. You should just shoot animals in a yard
imagine being an animal and knowing when your being hunted, your guna die, you dnt hav a single chance. This is total bUll, screw any dickhead that likes this Sh!t
As a long time tramper in the NZ outdoors few things annoy me more than the sound of choppers haring about the place. That people would choose to use these for this cruel treatment of animals beats me. Nothing against hunters. This isn't hunting.
i dont even see how they can shoot out of a chooper at all, even to wound the animal,as it states in the new zealand arms code that you not allowd to shoot out of a moving vehical,is a chopper a vehical or what?
All of you "foot hunters" think that heli-hunting is bad just because you cant afford to do it yourself!!!! If you had the chance to do this you would have the time of your life. There are far too many tahr, chamois and deer in this country anyway, so heli hunting is the way to go. Grow a pair and harden the fuc up!
@777samthesniper - heli hunting is most definitely the one way to kill an animal, which is possibly the farthest away from hunting ever. it should be called "heli-pulling the trigger" or so.. The most respectable thing with this is to fly the heli. What a shame to take your home your throphy and tell your friends you shoot it from a heli, or even better to pretend, that you took it on a real hunt.
This is shocking! No TRUE hunter even thinks of getting in a chopper to get their trophy you have to earn a trophy not just fly over one! Its plain Lazyness by people who expect to be called hunters because they have used a rifle to kill an animal. Thats no where near the case! These people are shooters not hunters. It should be named heli-shooting and made an illigal sport. Then NZ can get that money for NZ through the fines from lazy shooters!
What a shame this goes on and this guy should be ashamed of himself. My dad is a hunter (a proper hunter, where he hunts these mountains on FOOT) and it is a disgrace to see this kind of activity... And they call this hunting, it's more like slaughter.
thiss is fucking bullshit, this is as much hunting as driving thru the drivethru at kfc and saying i hunted this 3peice quarter pack! get a brain and get off ur ass like the rest of us .how could you even be proud that you shot that myt aswell go inside a paddock the lasy cruelbastards
fuc king bullshit cunts with to much money no balls or hunting ethics if your going to hunt an awesome trophy animal then do the hard yards on his turf thats why they get big we should start smashing all the choppy pilots over who do this crap discusting
I hope the hunters in these videos, once their adrenalin has died down, really consider if they are proud of this type of shooting. There's no hunting involved and is an embarrassment to New Zealand hunters. If you see this video please please please tell people this is not hunting in New Zealand :(
To fund extermination programs on Tahr and Chamois, the NZDept of Conservation, in conjunction with tourism enterprize's, are in the process of legaliseing helihunting.
In helihunting, a foreign tourist is flowen by helicopter untill a trophy Bull Tahr is found, the Bull is then forced by a number of methods to a spot where it is recoverable, then the hunter is let out to shoot it. To do so the Bull has to be broken, by exhaustion or injury, and often shotguns are used to acheive this.
In NZ WE VALUE authentic, fair-chase hunting. This is our heritage and by far the bulk of hunters consider the antics displayed in this footage to be an unworthy experience in our wilderness environments and not the true essence of hunting. Don't support these heli-hunts in NZ; email our communities of hunters and get taken on real adventures, creating memories with integrity.

I have been hunting for 50 years, and I want every advantage I can get.
I especially do not like dragging ruminants out.
They are too heavy.
Never give an animal a fair chance.

Is this the unique backcountry hunting experience NZ wants to be famous for ?
National parks and what happens in them should define a nation and how it sees itself.
Does New Zealand want hunting like this to define us.
Incredibly the New Zealand government think it is just fine to hunt like this and want to push helihunting as a tourist dollar earner !!!!!!!!
