First Responders do not attempt swimming water rescues on suicidal subjects in the water, period. Life Guards are better trained in the swimming aspect and they wouldn't do it either.

I live in florida and saved the life of a 13yr old girl who got sucked out in a rip current 200yards off shore. I risked my life in front of my wife and 2 daughters to get that girl, with no promise even i would make it. But once again the Lord showed himself mercyful. I've got to tell you, this story sickens me, saddens me, and angers me, b/c not one person jumped in that water to help save that man, even if he was suicidal. The fact that the firefighters and police officers who responded first just sat there and did nothing really pisses me off b/c these are people who are specially trained to serve and protect us, and they refuse to do so b/c of budget cuts. If we can't put our trust in the police and the fire department, then who can we trust?
