This piece was also featured in the movie, 'Barry Lyndon". In the film, 18th Centry Prussian nmercenaries marched to it. The tune has been around in one form or another since the early 1700s

@Grepple1234 No, this merely contains a piece of the Hohenfriedburger Marsch by Frederick II of Prussia, celebrating his victory at Hohenfriedburg in 1745. Also, they weren't 'mercenaries,' despite their attribution in Thackeray's satirical novel, upon which the movie Barry Lyndon was based. Most armies throughout that period contained a large portions of foreigners. However, the Prussian army of the 7 Years War never exceeded 50% non-Prussians, and most of those were in separate Freikorps.

@sloughery Yes, but during WWII, the invasion of the Soviet Union, which opened up the Eastern front only happened when there was no war in the West. The only enemy from the West at that time was Britain, who was in no shape to launch any kind of invasion to push the Germans back. So, don't make the mistake that they just tried to fight everyone at once, it just happened that way as the war went on.
