There was a squall once where I live in the UK. In fact, it was only novemeber 2009. It was about 10mph winds before, then when we got the shower, it was about 70mph
very cool! You might like to check out a timelapse of a snow flurry hitting Putney, London, UK, that I recorded. Search for "bakertony snow" (without quotes) in youtube...
That was a buzzy day, it got so dark so quick! I was on Petone esplanade sitting in traffic when it arrived and when it hit, woah it was powerful. Gotta love Welly!

The timing of this storm and the immensity of it had to have effected Paul Van Rensburg and perhaps caused his demise. This is sudden and furious stuff.

I really want to source the satelite path of the storm on Friday as Paul van Rensburg was last heard of 13.30 Friday heading towards the East Cape from Tauranga on his way to Gisborne. I heard that the search tomorrow will be up to the Bay of Islands and 80 km offshore. I wonder if viewing of the satelite footage coud give the searchers more info as to Paul's possible position. NIWA?
This shit was craazzzzyyyy i remember being like shit bad weather stepping out of cover and boooom getting blown all over the show. Didnt last long though
I use to live in between Owhiro Bay and Island Bay - Frobisher St. I remember how it felt living so high up, and the storms coming in during the winter season! Strong and scary! Nice clip!!
Thankyou for the video. We were watching it head for New Zealand on the radar after it had hit Melbourne Australia. We were wondering how you got on. thankyou. Thats awesome footage. Well done.
Im in wanganui. and i was sitting outside with a blue sky. then within 5mins the sky went black. only raining lightly for about 10mins. which is weird coz trees fel over around town.
this storm was very fast, as i sit in my bedroom watch the scenic to purirua, then i saw a BIG wide black cloud moving so fast and after 2mins everything went dark and then my room became cold as in winter, (from 18c drop to 5c just in 2-3mins. and the wind is so strong that i can see some tree (medium and small) in my backyard blowing away. and lighting also, it was scary.
Yea im on Adelaide Rd and this came frm no wea. Was jst chilln on the deck lookn at the view and nxt minute heavy strom. Felt bad for all the people going pass...coz it hit em lyk a rugby tackle(e.g. suicide pass) was a HUGE suprise
Great footage. I was at the airport and had just boarded a plane. It was freaky!! We ended up stuck in the plane and waiting on the tarmac for an hour before it was safe enough to take off. I have never felt a plane shake so much and we were still on the ground!
That damn storm hit hard n fast. Like it came out from nowhere. I was in my car just pulling into the supermarket when we were hit and the blingin wind was so hard that it lifted the car with me and my 4 kids in it. Now that was pretty freaky. Good footage by the way.
I live in Blenheim just across the coast, and this hit our timber mill, I was swept off my feet and started getting sucked uncontrollably along the ground, I tried to find shelter behind a large pack of timber and seconds later the whole pack blew over the fence and into the vineyard next door, smashing some of it to pieces. A crazy moment in my life! I'm glad I wasn't crushed by the falling timber, all I received was a few cuts. 20 minutes later it was a still and sunny day!
This has got to be the best timlapse of the storm. I love how it comes in so fast wipping up all the sea spray, then the heavy rain pelts the windows.
@S3iG3 Unfortunately the auto focus got baffled. I didn't have time to change to manual focus. I shot a bunch more footage than this but the camera couldn't figure out what to focus on.
I was too busy freaking out to notice. I was pretty disappointed when I saw what I had shot. Could've been a lot better. Next time.
this is insane, im from wellington and quite gutted i missed it as i enjoy a good storm occassionaly haha but i currently live in chch and had no idea there was a storm up there, the weather in chch earlier in the day was so mild compared to this haha
@tehoro yeah until the first cut is timelapse. then it goes to real time. I shoot a lot of timelapse of the weather coming in. I certainly wasn't expecting it to turn into what it did. It was pretty scary watching those waterspouts coming towards me. I've never seen that before. By the time I made it home branches were blowing past me. A while later roofing iron was blowing past.
Oh my Strange feedback on this video once more.
