  • I wish he didn't kill R lee Ermy. He's the most hilarious officer ever.

  • @Moralvorstellung7 what are u talking about?

  • still one of my fav kubrick movies.. joker should of bum rushed him before he was able to load that rifle

  • This movie has the most intensive first 15 minutes I've ever seen in a movie <3.

  • Joker should've replied with "That you john wayne? Is this me?" at 0:51.

  • Looks like WWE's Kane

  • Had to be in the shithouse lol.

  • 1:29 AHH HE SAID IT! (peter griffin voice)

  • He shot himself in the bathroom...

I guess you could say he had a

    *puts on sunglasses*

    POTTY MOUTH!

    YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!

  • The only movie that looks good in 240P

  • Love the music in this scene especially at 4:20.

  • @phelps12471 I wish I could find a soundtrack of it somewhere.

  • @Blackthorne2010 Yeah the music in this film is awesome. There was this one version of the fmj theme and it was the best one but it was taken down due to copyright or some bs.

  • best scene from any movie

  • Only Gunny Ermey could talk shit when he has a loaded gun pointed at him.

  • 2:36. My beauty sleep has been interrupted. That means that some private just offered himself as a human fucking sacrifice!

  • This move was made in 1982, not '87.

  • Now that's what I call...

    *puts on sunglasses*

    ...a headache!

  • Holy dog shit! I just noticed that Private Pyle is Detective Robert Goren from Law & Order!

  • @KaTzaNdSTuFf Fuck me your right mate. Fucking well good actor he is. Im glad you said that otherwise i would of been tossing and turning all night in my bed trying to think who it was. Mostly tossing of course!! Cheers again mate. I love you. Marry me. I bet your give me a reach around wont you?

  • Hartman should have ran and tackled Pyle before he had time to react XD

  • 3:41 thats why all the negotiators are soft speaking

  • DAmmmnnnnnn!!!

  • Pyle. you did not need to kill him or your self.

  • Pyle is so sexy at the end. <3

  • To say this film is 23 years old the SFX are awesome :D

  • earl sweatshirt brought me here

  • One of the greatest scenes in movie history. Of course you can't understand it unless you've seen the hell the sergeant puts Leonard through, and knowing that he's got a weak streak, and only Joker tries to help him. He's not the kind of material any army wants. The sergeants method of breaking down and rebuilding as marines fails with him, because he just breaks down, and sees no way out of the world of shit he's in. One of the most memorable quotes too. "I am in a world of shit."

  • @m14Lover308 sure you do. :P

  • @XrGxMYTHiCzz The USMC wasn't issued with M1 Carbines in the 60s...anyway, the M1A1 Carbine is the paratroop version with a folding metal stock. Certainly isn't one on Pyle's gun. It's an M14.

  • @jeebateeba56 Dude my comment was 2 weeks ago and i realized back then that i Sounded like a idiot. I know it's a m14. i was wrong.

  • @XrGxMYTHiCzz KK just clearing it up.

  • @jeebateeba56 Thankyou.

  • the memories at paris island

  • @m14Lover308 It's a M1A1 Carbine. you can tell with the look of it. M14 looks completly different

  • @m14Lover308 i think its a M1A1 carbine...

  • Still awesome scene.

  • Someone needs to post the morbid soundtrack that plays in the background! Ohhh and the score that is played when the GIs are searching for the female sniper! Favorite part of the movie for me :)

  • 1.) Pause then play

    2.) Hold space

    3.) Enjoy slow-motion!

  • "Seven. Six. Two. Millimeter. Full. Metal. Jacket."

Pyle's eye were scary stuff in this scene. Great acting. Can't believe that movie is now almost 25 years old. Good Morning Vietnam is my favourite 'nam movie, but FMJ is a close second.

  • That's nam baby!

  • I hate the way the line "I'm so proud of you" was left out but it's still a brilliant scene in movie history.

  • this scene ruined the whole movie r lee ermy played the best character in this movie if dumbass private pyle had just left if he couldnt take boot camp him and the sargent would have lived and this movie wouldnt have been nearly as depressing

  • He has made a great career, all from this movie, its amazing how much you can change in your life from just small thing that happen

  • I feel for Pyle. I mean Lawrence...

  • 3:29 YOU GOIN GET RAPED!!!

  • I've always wanted to see a scene like this. Never before have I seen a soldier pushed too hard and actually go off the brink like Pyle did. When I look at it outwardly, Hartmann was being a dumbass. I mean, what kind of soldier would just ignore the fact that someone has their gun trained on you and willing to fire? Not to mention, the rather subtle sounds such as the gun cock at 3:32 and Pyles's breathing noise brings a terrifying aura to the scene itself. One of the best since Pulp Fiction.

  • that face he makes when he says "I am...in a world, of shit." priceless

  • Great suicide scene. There's a lot of softhearted people here, that's okay. I can't join them though.

  • Simply....*wipes tear* Depressing.

  • Great sequence!...

  • Now if only he would just do that in CI...we all would sleep better...actors!

  • this is sad

  • I AM....IN A WORLD...OF SHIT!

  • Pyle: Hi.....Joker.....

    ...

    Wassup Batman?

  • WHO TOLD YOU TO DO THAT SPIN WHEN MOUNTING YOUR GUN ON YOUR SHOULDER?! WHO SAID YOU COULD BE MR. FANCYPANTS WHEN GOING INSANE?! I BET YOUR DADDY FUCKED YOUR MOMMY IN THE ASS ON THE DAY THEY CONCEIVED YOU PRIVATE PYLE! NOT ONLY ARE YOU A FUCKING QUEER, BUT LIKE YOUR NAME YOU'RE GIVING ME A PAIN IN MY ASS! NOW GIVE ME THAT GUN AND GIVE ME TWENTY!

  • what the fuck happened when another high ranking official found this mess that night or the next morning?

  • 5 people must have had "Nam flashbacks

  • i nearly cried when gunny got shot D:

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOO... D'X

  • His face he is one scary sob

  • I watched this last night..... i didnt get to fall asleep till 5:30. because of this very scene

  • "WHAT IS THIS MICKEY MOUSE SHIT"

That's my favorite R Lee Ermey line

  • all drill intructer wud of walked out grabed there pistol and shot him i luv the drill sargent though he the bomb

  • first time i seen this movie was in the mid 90's

  • 762 mm?! WHAT THE HELL?

  • @InboardPG its 7.62

  • @InboardPG when you verbally state caliber sometimes people dont say point. and yeah 7.62 is the m14's caliber

  • I'm going to cry now.

  • This part of the film will always be stuck within my mind, the face of Pyle as Joker walks in, the dialogue, the lighting, everything! This part always told me to never fuck with people with mental or self-esteem issues and if possible, help them, cause one day when they go Postal, you will at least have a chance of surviving. I hope ya'll take this message into account.

  • I'll be honest, the first time I saw this movie, I did not see that coming AT ALL.

  • 2:35, wait wait wait... did he say: What is this mickey mouse shit...

  • @CamelBallZee If you notice when joker is in the briefing room,at the start of the second act,a mickey mouse toy is right behind him.

  • @TheGatorfan93 Ohoh ohoh ohoh ohoh <-- that's Mickey Mouse having sex. :P

  • @CamelBallZee LOL...and i also believe,joker's wearing a mickey mouse watch!

  • @TheGatorfan93 It has a wake up alarm that goes: "Ohoh ohoh ohoh ohoh" and it squirts water in his face. XD

  • @2:30 goes to bed with the hat on :D

  • boom headshot

  • good movie

  • this is a good movie but this is really the only sad part

  • damnnnnnnnnn !!! xD

  • exactly right Avengedsevenfold979

  • Loves this scene, my twisted little mind masturbates to this every 10 seconds.

  • His name was Lennard Lawrence

  • Poor Pyle

  • The compression that Youtube puts on the videos makes R. Lee Ermey's voice sound really high pitched.

  • dude......=/

  • what the hell happened

  • WHAT IS THIS MICKEY MOUSE SHIT?! :D

  • evry1!!!!

WAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUCTION NUMNUTS DIDNT MOMMY AN DADDY GIVE YOU GUYS ENOUGH ATTENTION WHEN YOU WERE CHILDREN!!!!

  • in all honesty i would want pyle's crazy ass to be on my side

  • I love how joker just stands there like Oh SHIT.

  • The main duty of a soldier is to kill his enemies before they kill him. From this premise, Pvt. Pyle's performance was almost flawless, if we exclude the whole suicide thing.

  • If this happened today, Fox News would pour every resource into trying to prove Leonard was a Muslim.

  • Great actor

  • 0:46 RAEP FAIC ACTIVATED

  • I think the insults to his parents did it. Don't mention anyone's mother when you're insulting them.

  • This was creepy. The music was perfect. Calling him "Leonard" saved Joker's life. Had he called him anything else (i.e., Private Pyle), he would have been dead.

  • Haha! Take that you douchebag! I'd have shot him twice!

  • Gunnery Sergeant Hartman died as he lived - delivering another blistering insult. Turns out even he can't out-yell a rifle.

  • I watched this film for the first time today, and I already want to watch it again. This scene could be seen coming from a mile off, yet it was one of the most astonishingly powerful pieces of cinema I've seen in a long time. Superb film.

  • That is some pretty fucked up shit.

  • If I came in and saw Pyle's face like that in the dark....I'd shit and piss myself and crawl into the corner, ball up and cry softly...

  • @hivelocity100 pause at 3:03, you will piss your pants even more.

  • @hivelocity100 Id laugh and say "THE UGLY MOTHER HUMBERS DEAD!!! WOOT!" Then id see the sargents body and set Pyles corpse of fire and laugh.

  • Yeah, the idiot drill sergeant couldn't figure out that his "motivation" methods were wrong even when he had a rifle pointed at him.

  • @Sephiroth1984 Walk up to a DI and call him Sergeant. See what happens.

  • @ihatekate08

Ah, my bad--he was an idiot Drill Instructor

  • @Sephiroth1984 Thats better!

  • @ihatekate08 That all depends. If you call the DI Sergeant and you are an Officer, nothing will happen. If you call him Sir and you are in the Army, the work for a living speech will be given, pushups and/or other punishment will follow. A Marine DI, I hope pain is something you enjoy.

  • @chrismc410 Actually, seeing as how I went through the 13 weeks, ran the drills, PT'ed til my ass was suckiing buttermilk as Gunnery Sergeant Ermey would say, and I've earned my title as a US Marine. Trust me "Sir" I KNOW pain.

  • @ihatekate08 I would say so too.

  • @ihatekate08 but I'm sure you did not then nor do not now enjoy said pain.

  • @chrismc410 Lookin back on it, there wasn't anything that I did that wasn't difficult. Yeah, sure it was painful but I did it. Moslty because being a Marine was all I had wanted to do since I was like 11. The fact that I pulled through makes it seem like it was easy, but now that you mention it, I hurt like hell when I came home on my 30 day. My throat was so sore from yelling "Yes, sir" "No, sir" and "Aye-aye, sir" that I could barely talk. But I came out a stronger person because of it.

  • @Sephiroth1984 Sgt. Gunnery's methods were not wrong.

  • @chessdrummer

He was arrogant and self-indulgent. His failure to tell the difference between that and real leadership ruined someone's life got himself killed. The degree of his arrogance is most evident in this scene: not even a loaded gun could knock sense into him.

  • @Sephiroth1984 Calling a DI arrogant is meaningless. That's what they do. Private Pyle was a head case and had unraveled. Would you want him in your unit? He'd get you killed. I believe the insults about his parents got the Gunny shot, but the way of disarming someone is to show no fear and to be firm. You'd be surprised at how many people comply. If the Gunny would have cowered, there would have been an entire tent of bloodshed. They all abused him. Only Joker tried helping him.

  • @chessdrummer

First, you have to make up your mind about whether you DO want somebody in your unit or not. Apparently this DI did. For that matter, do you think the DI could even take credit for the fact that the private figured out he was good at something (shooting)? I don't.

In this situation, pacifying the guy would have been better.

As any kind of warrior, this DI was causeless and it is clear consequence that he didn't even die on a battlefield.

  • @Sephiroth1984 You don't determine who is in your unit. The other thing is you don't pacify a guy with a gun. That's exactly what they want. Have you even had a gun held to you? You'd really have a situation on your hands if you did that. The entire barracks would have been wiped out. The DI took a bullet for the men. That's what he was supposed to do in that situation. That is the other reason he walked forward. This is not like talking down your child. However, I wouldn't dish out insults.

  • @chessdrummer

The entire barracks would have been wiped out if not for Joker handling the situation the right way. Hartman showed the utmost stupidity and arrogance in this scene, and proves that he truly was a bastard. He didn't take a bullet for his men, he tried to intimidate Pyle, who had lost his mind and had a loaded gun at him. He was reckless and stupid, and Hartman almost got all the others killed so he could show how tough he was. The others could thank Joker that they survived.

  • for the sake of argument. it's generally understood that marines are trained to take orders without any second thought, and Hartman was just following general protocol in his assumption that Pyle would obey orders dished out objectively, no? Nonetheless, there's still are those few who aren't the machines the Marines would like them to be

  • this was my fav part from da movie...... 7.62 mil. full metal jacket

  • "Seven-Six-Two millimeter, Full Metal Jacket"

  • 4:27 look on what toilet is pyle... at 4:49 he is dead on the next one xD

  • is this Kane from WWE???

  • @jigglejack100 no >.>

  • @jigglejack100 no its not lol ... the actor that plays Private Pyle is Jim Nabors ... the guy who plays Kane is Glenn Jacobs

  • @avengedsevenfold979 lol ur both wrong the actor who plays Private Pyle is Vincent D'Onofrio. Hes the gray haired guy on Law and Order or CSI one of those fuckin shows.

  • @avengedsevenfold979 Actually, jim Nabors was the original Gomer Pyle on "the Andy Griffith Show", and it's spin off "Gomer Pyle:USMC". In this clip, Leonard "Private Pyle" Lawrence was played by Vincent D'Onofrio.

  • @avengedsevenfold979 You're kidding right. Jim Nabors played Gomer Pyle in the 1960's show Gomer Pyle, USMC. Private Pyle in FMJ is a different actor.

  • @kymyst Yeah I know I keep getting that mixed up ... Whenever I hear or see or talk about Gomer Pyle I think "Jim Nabors" lol

  • @avengedsevenfold979 "Gomer pyles" real name is Vincent D'Onofrio

  • @avengedsevenfold979 its the guy from law and order that plays private pyle

  • @avengedsevenfold979 The actor who plays Pyle is named Vincent D'onofrio

  • @avengedsevenfold979 Pvt Pyle is played by Vincent D'onofrio. The same guy on Law and Order Criminal Intent.

  • @avengedsevenfold979 no the actor is not Jim Nabors...it is Vincent D'onofrio

  • no but probably where Kane got the idea.

  • @jigglejack100 Private Pyle was played by Vincent D'Nofrio. The same actor who played the redneck farmer in the first Men In Black.

  • @jigglejack100 Vincent Dinofrio. That's who played him.

  • OOOOO that sgt is gonna have a thing or two to say to pile when they both meet in hell >:(

  • pyle went the shinning on hartman!

  • the music

  • Yeah This is an M-14 though It reminds me a bit of a larger version of an m1-carbine which is an amazing weapon.

  • @awhinnie

The M14 also had some great influence on the Ruger Mini 14, which in my mind is an extended-range M1 carbine...

  • @UCSPanther20 and a more powerful M1 Carbine by that logic. 5.56/.223 is more powerful than .30 Carbine.

  • @puertericandude16 you mat not have seen it but there was another toilet

  • hartmans ghost still yells at pyles

  • Who wears a hat when they get out of bed? lol.

  • @grobo11 i do... something wrong with that?

  • The first time we hear Gunny speaking in his normal voice.

    The suicide looks so accurate.

On DVD I played this back one frame at a time.

Don't know how they did it.

In EMS, I've seen the real thing and this looks just like it.

There should have been some smoke coming out of Pyle's mouth..

  • did anyone else notice that he sat down on the fourth toilet before he killed himself, but then he and the blood spatters magically moved to the third toilet?

  • @puertoricandude16 Spacetime distortions. Pyle was THAT pissed.

  • Kubrick used his horror skills from The Shining to make Pvt. Pyle looks scary.

  • would have been better if the sergeant ripped his balls off

  • Oh!! He said it!! He said the name of the movie!!

  • One of the scariest faces I've ever seen, if not the scariest!

  • 3:40 , perfect shot from the hip.

  • @jkitsunej: The magic of Hollywood, pal.

  • Matthew Modine is one of the worst actors...Matthew and Eric Stolz should've quit the business ages ago.

  • The sound seems a lot more high-pitched than in the DVD a rented.

  • That most certainly is not an M-16 it is the standard training rifle M-1 Grand

  • @Xmatron its an M14 :P the M-1 Grand was used on the field for targets but each soldier got their own M14

  • Gunny Hartman is a funny-ass motherfucker.......but he is also a STUPID SHIT.......anyone could see that Pyle went PSYCHO.......you dont yell at a psycho when he's pointing a loaded AK-47 at you !!

  • @Hunkola Um. that is definitely not a AK-47, that's not even a common mistake, your sir are a moron for thinking it is.

  • @avengedsevenfold979 -- It's an M-16, ya douche......ya think I dont know that?

  • @Hunkola Yeah actually I do lmao, because you said AK-47 you dildo xD

  • @avengedsevenfold979 Both wrong, its an M14

  • @newyears912 lol I konw what it is but I was trying to figure out if he knew lmao! How can you mistake an M14 for an M16 or an AK-47 XD

  • @avengedsevenfold979 oh my bad yeah i was like wtf? looks nothing like either of them haha

  • @newyears912 xD It looks nothing close to either assault riffle, the M14 Vietnam Edition is a sexy gun though :P

  • @avengedsevenfold979...very sexy...so sexy that some Marine snipers still use it today. Love that rifle!!

  • ive never seen the full movie all the way through so is this a dream of pyles or is this what he actually does

  • @TheBobbyWB It actually happens.

    You should watch the movie.

  • @TheBobbyWB yes it actually happens watch the whole thing :) its a great movie

  • @TheBobbyWB yep he hits his boiling point and kills the srg and himself
